It was announced that Wal Mart will open at 8pm on Thanksgiving Day. UGH. I feel so sorry for all the employees who will be giving up a day with their families just so Wal Mart can get a jump on Black Friday and the almighty buck.

Just think this is getting out of hand at this point.

That is the earliest I have heard. My DD works for American Eagle and she has to be in to work at 10:00 pm and they are going to open at midnight but maybe earlier if there are lots of people in the mall. But she has to be there all night. I hope she is OK. This is her first time working a Black Friday.

Don't be mad at Walmart. They are in the business to make money. Are you made at all the other stores that open at that time as well

That isn't new. I know our local store was at least open by that time 2 years ago. They had lots of midnight sales.

Geez if you're gonna be mad for the employees, be mad at Family Dollar, Dollar General, Waffle House.....list goes on. They are all open here on Thanksgiving Day. So are most stores like Walgreen's, Rite Aid, CVS.....all day.

I refuse to shop on major holidays. I don't think the stores should be open.

And please, if you do go shopping, don't tell them it is a shame that they have to work.

Wal Mart seems to set the standard. It seems that once they started opening earlier and earlier, others followed.

Seriously. Is the OP going to be mad at Disney? After all, it's open on the holidays.

Not everyone spends the entire day with their family, heck some people are probably pretty eager to get away by 8 PM :)

I have second job at the Dollar Tree and we are open 8a.m-4p.m on Thanksgiving. I will not be working that day...not for minimum wage! That is a paid holiday for my "real" job so I can stay home with my family and will make twice that!

It's an interesting approach, it might be a way of keeping customers in the store for a very long time.

Be mad at the shoppers who lined up earlier and earlier every Black Friday morning/eve. Walmart is just giving shoppers what it thinks they want. And frankly, for that group of shoppers, the company, and shareholders, it's win-win.

Everything about Black Friday disgusts me, but you've probably seen my rants before.

Jeez, plenty of places are open on holidays and lots of folks have to work that day. My ex was a cop. I can create a holiday any day of the year. We were happy for the double time and had a full Thanksgiving dinner on a different day. We've been working around my BIL's shifts as an EMT and my nephew who works for the water treatment plant for years. We find a time when everyone can eat and have the holiday then. Not a big deal at all.

Oh believe me, I feel an extreme amount of sympathy for any retail employee that has to work any day from Thanksgiving until about the first week in January. But remember, for about every employee in that store missing Thanksgiving there is at least 100 people standing outside in line waiting to stampede their way in to the best bargains and they are also skipping Thanksgiving. Without one, you'll never have the other.

Pretty soon we'll all be eating Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday because Thursday is reserved for mass consumerism.

Thanksgiving night is just the tip of the iceberg.

Honestly, I don't see an issue with it. Most people have finished their Thanksgiving celebration by that time of the evening anyway. And a lot of us have to work that day, not just Walmart employees.

I would rather go out and do my shopping on Thanksgiving night than get up at 4 or 5 am on Friday, so I am good with it.

And anyway, if consumers didn't demand it, they wouldn't do it. I remember a lot of outrage maybe 10 or 15 years ago when Kmart started being open all day on Thanksgiving, but they are still doing it, so they must think its worthwhile to do so. Walmart at least is giving their employees most of the day at home.
