Seven Dwarves So Close...

Kind of curious that they are closing the Mine SOuvenir shop outside of the old Snow White Ride in early January...wonder where that will move and curious timing as I would think they have a new location by the mine ride for the shop so I would assume it would be an overnight move to the new location which hasnt been divulged as far as I know. This I would think would happen when the ride itself was closer to being complete so like I said it is curious.

Was lucky enough to take a tour MK with Phil Homes a few weeks ago and he said that the Mine Coaster will not be open till "early summer"
~Sorry, I missed this. If this June thing is true then I believe the mine train is done and Disney is just strategically stretching out "construction." Again. It is no coincidence that Universal's Diagon Alley and Hogwarts Express is rumored to debut in June as well.

~It just doesn't take that long to build a coaster. If June is the date then Disney is looking to face off against Universal this summer. Disney also moved Malificent's box office date to May 30, 2014 -- you might as well say June to upstage Jurassic World which was set for release on June 12, 2014. Universal took note and has wisely bowed out of that losing battle by pushing Jurassic World all the way back to June of 2015. Bummer.

~So, the Summer 2014 theme will be the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Malificent versus Universal's Diagon Alley. Clearly, the Mine Train is no match for Hogwarts Express and Diagon Alley but this is a marketing war. Disney is looking to dominate the headlines and press this summer and steal all the buzz away from Universal's Harry Potter expansion. Disney tries to act like they are above it all, but they're not. It's crystal clear if you look close enough. I will be watching. :goodvibes

Nope. That is not unique at all....not even to Orlando. Over at Universal the Revenge of the Mummy has had that concept since 2004. And the only thing unique about the "swaying cars" is that the cars sway "from below" vs. from the top of the track like many other coasters.

~Wow, you're right! I guess this is just "unique" only to Disney. :goodvibes

Well, if "the guy" was quoted accurately, that guy just happens to be the Vice President of Magic Kingdom---as in, he runs the place.
~Thanks for the link, this isn't a rumor then. Ugh ...I guess it is June for the mine train. Gosh, people have been waiting on this thing forever. :(

~But, this sparkly diamond mine part may be worth the painful wait! :goodvibes

Jurassic World wasn't pushed back to avoid competing with Maleficent. but if conspiracy theories are your thing, you can believe that if you want.

There have got to be some better movies coming out this summer.

~You're absolutely right! It's just me thinking out loud -- nothing official. :lmao:

~But, I did do a little more digging and Universal's response for pushing Jurassic World all the way back to June of 2015 back was to allow them "adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal's beloved franchise." That's too bad because I can't wait to see it.

~What's also interesting is that Malificent was originally set for July 2 and Tranformers 4 is set to open on June 27, just three days before. I'm not into Transformers, but I do like Mark Wahlberg and he has replaced Shia Lebouf. I still don't care to see it, but I'm sure this will perform well at the box office! So, it was wise for Disney to move the date for Malificent! Okay, I'm shutting up now. :rotfl:

I just have a hard time believing we're on the precipice of a "theme park war" when Universal is opening a whole new land with a couple of rides, a host of shops and at least one restaurant and Disney is countering that with, what, a Big Thunder-type coaster.

I know SDMT is part of the larger New Fantasyland but, you know what? The rest of that land has been open for more than a year. SDMT is the only "new" thing left.

I love Disney, but there's no competition in this so-called "theme park war."

Gah! :headache:

We were thinking about moving our August trip up to June, but I am thinking we will just keep August to be safe. We just want to ride the mine train!! :hyper:

Actually, strategically speaking, Disney wants to do the opposite. They know that DA is going to be a huge hit and they can't top that at the moment, so they want to have their new coaster open well before DA in order for them to not be overshadowed by the young wizard boy. This is why Disney is planning to combine the new MK parade and opening of the 7DMT together for a marketing campaign in spring. I've heard rumblings of soft openings between late Jan. and early Feb. with an official opening sometime in March, but this seems to be changing everyday now. The fact of the matter is not even the VP of MK entirely knows when they'll have this coaster up and running because it's been such a bumpy construction period.

And the funniest part about all of this is that all of this hype is basically about a glorified kiddie coaster. I feel bad for the soul who gets on line for that ride and expects anything other than a longer Barnstormer just indoors. While it will certainly be neat to see, it seems some have the wrong idea about it.

Are you trying to tell me that this is not going to be some glorious fusion of ToT, RnRC, Space Mountain, and BTMRR? A ride to end all known rides and excite even the most jaded of thrill seekers? Ohh, my delusions are being shattered!! Say it isn't so!!

oh great! If this coaster is not open for Easter my family is going to be pretty upset. Been watching it under construction for the last couple of April trips...:worried:

It won't be open. If at all it would be annual pass/cast member soft tastings.

My original thought was that I had hoped it would be open when I go in February, but I've realized that it's much better for me if it's NOT open until later in the year. The fewer people there when I'm there the better! :thumbsup2

Going early to mid-June. Taking way too long to build this thing.

OT, but I thought "Maleficent" was moved up because Pixar's "Good Dinosaur" was delayed. :confused3

Meanwhile, guess I'm missing Splash AND 7DMT this year. :( And I'm excited for 7DMT, because I'm expecting a "fun" ride that is not too extreme for an out-of-shape, not-so-young Big Kid.

I'm beginning to think that Avatar Land will be open before The Seven Dwarves Mine Train... Seems like they've been building this since the 1980's! :confused3
