Just found this article on the monorail accident and it makes me sick to my stomach.

ORANGE COUNTY, FL -- Three Walt Disney World employees have been placed on paid leave as part of the investigation into a monorail crash which killed a 21-year-old train operator over the weekend.

A Disney spokeswoman said Thursday that the paid leave is not disciplinary action but part of the investigative process.

The employees are a monorail shop worker, the operator of one of the trains involved in the collision and a transportation manager.

An Orlando TV station reported that those responsible for monitoring the Disney World monorail system were at a restaurant when a crash occurred last Sunday, killing a monorail driver.

A former monorail driver who still has friends at Disney told WFTV that a monorail manager and a central coordinator were taking a break at a nearby Denny's.

A train that collided with another monorail reportedly was supposed to be switched to a different track. WFTV reports that several sources have confirmed that a maintenance worker was left to make the decision.

The National Transportation Safety Board reported Wednesday that no malfunctions have been found with the automatic train stop system, nor with any mechanical parts of the switch. No mechanical problems were found with the two trains that collided Sunday.

The accident killed 21-year-old Austin Wuennenberg.

The NTSB says a pink train was changing tracks when it backed up into a purple train with Wuennenberg at the controls. The agency says it appears Wuennenberg tried to put the train in reverse to avoid the collision.

Good morning everyone! Can't sleep.

The Allears.net story on Austin was very touching, especially the video. I was in tears after watching it yesterday morning.

Ang, I had heard on the news that the pilot may have been trying to back up to avoid the accident, but hadn't heard about the CM's being placed on paid leave. I can't imagine how the operator of the other monorail feels.

My mind is racing this morning. My dog, Constanze, has Pancriatitis (Sp?). They believe she will be ok, but the BILL!:scared1: Trying to figure out if we should just cancel our September trip or maybe shorten it? Already have the MNSSHP tickets, so we should still go one night. I'm not letting it effect the trip next week. We don't have Kara with us that much. Took her shopping today and all she picked out were three blouses and a pair of shorts. Most expensive item was $40, and she wasn't going to try it on until I told her to. She's trying to find outfits for her senior pictures. She is suppose to take 5 with her.

Ang, glad you got a lot of your flooring materials ordered. It's the tile around the bathtub and shower that I want to replace. It's white and I know some colored tile would really add to the bathroom and maybe help resale. Since I know most of the other houses will have the same white tile. There are 5 houses right in a row with the same floor plan.

I wonder if I can sleep now, guess I will give it a try.

You all need to check out this family video posted on YouTube, someone in the July thread had posted it.

Melissa,
I'm sorry to hear about your dog and hope you find something that helps the condition. Since the pancreas has to do with digestion did the doctor suggest changing her food? I know with humans they suggest lots of water, low fat diets etc. for that condition.

My shih tzu started to have problems with digesting foods with chicken in them and also had problems with her skin from it as well. I switched her to Sam's club brand Exceed Lamb formula. The lamb is supposed to be a lot easier for them to digest. That did it for her and she started gaining weight again and her skin issues cleared up. She still has one spot of dark hair and skin that is a reminder not to feed her stuff she can't handle not that DH cares he still feeds her what he is eating but her body is handling it well since it is not often. It might be worth asking the vet if lamb and rice dog food will help.

Let us know how it goes.

As for the monorail thing what made me sick is if that story is true it was all because the people who were supposed to be doing their job were too busy goofing off and abandoning their position to go out and eat leaving someone not trained for the job in charge. If it is true I am sure they will live with that guilt forever.

MsDisney,
Doesn't it feel good to have all your plans in order and then just enjoy dreaming of the trip for the rest of the time.

Ask Timmy if she made her ADR's yet. lol

Just a quick :car: drive by to say hi to all! Summers are crazy busy, and my dad visiting for the past week hasn't made it any easier. Glad to see and hear that you all seem to be having fun with friends and family. We're going to try to go to the beach tomorrow, if I can get all the :laundy: done!

Oh, Melissa, I am so sorry Constanze is not well. That is such a worry -and expense. Our mini-schnauzer had pancreatitis twice, she did very well. I hope Constanze is doing better this evening.

That would be a shame to have to cancel your September trip - can you downgrade the resort, or are you at a value? I hope you can at least go for a couple of ngts, even the one ngt would be nicer than none at all - and the MSSHP is worth the trip!

Will keep Constanze and you all near in heart and prayer.

Good morning gals!

Advice, free advice, given whether wanted or not.:rotfl:

JM, you do know that they sell special paint to paint over tiles do you not? You are asking for a whole lot of trouble in taking down the tiles to replace them if there is nothing wrong with them. Frankly, it does not pay to do much to a house if you are selling it because the new owners will have their own ideas and will often tear out what you spent money and labor on and you will not make a penny for your trouble. Just clearing clutter, planting new flowers out front and other cheaper and easy things make the biggest bang for the least amount of bucks. The entry is the most important because folks will drive by and if they are not impressed with that they will not come in. I watch a lot of H&G, I know this stuff.

Ang, those two employees need to be gotten rid of. I can imagine that since everything has always been alright they might have been bored and since they have probably done this many times over they did not think it wrong but it was. The poor driver of the other monorail is the one I feel sorry for. I cannot imagine how I would cope if I ever hurt anyone, on purpose or not.

Diva K, might that not work with IASW water as well? It is more my speed. I like the Dole floats better than the whips.

TB, nothing like having something in writing to make a trip more real. Hooray!:wizard:

Timmie, I restocked my poncho supply the other day. I had given some of my supply to a friend who made a last minute trip last year. $.88 at WM, compact and disposable. My kind of thing. :woohoo:

M&N, I had wigglers too but my solution was to reward them for laying still during diaper changes. One liked to hear a music box, Disney of course, and one loved pressing the co detector button above the freezer where I changed them. I had a towel on the freezer for them to lay on. AFTER the successful change they also got a big belly kiss from grandma. I love the smell of fresh powder in the morning. :rotfl2: Bribery works every time. Would any of you go to work if you were not paid? It is a matter of keeping the bribes small enough that you can afford them.

I have at least another bag of yard waste to bag up this morning and then to the dump. I have figured out that as long as Tom thinks I am working I can get away a bit. The dump is halfway between home and town where I shop so I go ahead in and find the McD and get myself a huge helping of unsweet tea and sit. Sometimes someone I know comes along and I get to talk to another adult. A 3 cup day is a good one. Going to go home the long way and see if blackberries are on sale yet. I am a woman of simple wants and needs, not that I get them but I try. :yay:

Okay, it's kind of pathetic, but I'm way more excited about it than any normal person should be, and I just had to share. I couldn't get in on a fridge swap for our August trip, and I refuse to pay $12 a day to rent one from the resort, but I couldn't imagine not having some way to keep bottled water, leftovers, etc. cool. A regular cooler was out of the question since we're flying, but then I found this at Costco:

http://ep.yimg.com/ip/I/store3-store_2055_12331766

It folds down really small for traveling, is supposed to be virtually leakproof, and that rolling cart will come in handy for going back and forth to the ice machine. Best of all--it's GREEN! :laughing:I can't wait to try it out!

Thanks for indulging me and the sad, little highlight of my week, lol.
Was telling DH about this today and he is interested in getting one for our trip too (to keep the water I order from COSTCO cold!) but your link isn't working...:surfweb:

FYI, if anyone needs refrigeration for a medical reason they can get an in room fridge for free.

I did not know that for several years and then one time I asked for a room near the ice machine so I could keep my meds cold and they told me this and I have been doing it ever since, when I have meds that is.

Also some folks have found that they can hit WM when they get down there, if they are renting a car anyway, and it is cheaper to just buy a small fridge, stroller, or whatever and then pass it on to someone else or leave it.

I have have often wondered what happens to those things that are left behind, including the refillable cups. Do you think they wash them up and resell them? :confused3 I usually pass mine on to an incoming family.

Betting that there will be more than the usual amount of in park picnics this year and possibly next.

SG: I have heard rumors of a stroller discount where used strollers are sold to cm's. It is hard to know if its true or not.

Sorry about the link--it was just to a picture of the cooler I found at Costco. It doesn't seem to be available at Costo.com; only in the store. If you can't find it in your local Costco, the name of the company is "California Innovations" (easy for you to say--I keep typing California Innoventions ). They have a web site, but I couldn't find the same exact product I found at Costco. I'm sure one of their other rolling, collapsible coolers would be comparable.

So far, I think it's pretty good quality. If we had a car, I'd definitely just buy and bring my own dorm fridge, but I hope this ends up working almost as well. The best part is both the cooler itself and the rolling cart it attaches to fold down small enough that I think they'll fit under the seat on the airplane. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to try it out next month!

Had a good day at the Oregon coast yesterday--hope you all are enjoying your summers as well!
