Sept. 2009 @ WDW! Be a Pop Tart 2009~come share your(Bounce Back or NOT)Dates !!!

Hello everyone.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We got a lot done around her but we are still waiting for the flooring to come in.

Funny there is a post about a cooler. I just picked up a 50% off cooler at Walgreens today that folds up but it is only a 12 can cooler. We just use it for a few waters and maybe a snack or two. We put our case of water under the sink and just put them in the cooler as we need them. We usually just use quart baggies and fill them with ice at the ice maker and put the whole bag in the cooler so we don't have to empty water from the cooler. This one has some special cooling agent in it where you can freeze it and not use ice. It is actually cool to the touch all the time. It was only $6.50.

I am debating placing a small order with garden grocer or just having water delivered. Problem is I am afraid that luggage services will lose our case of water again like they did last year at Pop. Garden grocer makes sure they get a shelf number in case it can't be found.

SG,
I talked to a lady at lost and found a couple years ago and she said they get more strollers than anything else at lost and found and then they sell them at the CM sale tent. Wherever that is. I asked why they did not donate them to Give Kids the World or give them out to Make a Wish families. She said they won't because of legalities. There are people who will pick up at the resorts and strollers, coolers, soap, shampoo etc. left as a donation for Give Kids the World which is nice. I guess if it is a guest donation they don't worry about legalities?

Thanks for all the info on coolers!
LOVE to fly but HATE how it limits what you can bring. :headache:

Try it with Pirate Water (rum!) :thumbsup2

I soooo need one of these right now. Jonas is on the way to take Constanze to get an ultrasound. Her bloodwork hasn't improved at all, and the vet doesn't know what is wrong.

SG, that is nice info to know that you can leave donations for GKTW. I can actually see someone sueing Disney because they received a donated stroller from them and it fell apart or something. :sad2:

Well, off to take Jacob to therapy. Hope you are all having good days!

Melissa, any word yet? :grouphug:

M&N, no word yet. Jonas called and said the doctor was keeping Constanze for the ultrasound and would call him. He asked if I trusted his decision, and that was almost 3 hours ago. I'm sitting here wondering if she will even be coming home. Jacob had therapy is why I'm not with them.

Melissa, you sure do have your hands full. I hope that you get good news from the vet and soon. Worry will age you faster than anything. I hope it is less expensive than you think also. If I am going to wish I am going to wish big.

I would love to hear about your therapy sessions. Anything I can learn to help my students would be of great help. I mainly use a sense of humor and joke them into paying attention to me. I have all sorts of levels though so what works for one does not work for another. This year we will have a couple of other people coming in and that will be wonderful. One is a man. Not everyone is made for one teacher, nor student for teacher. Changing one child's life is enough. I had three one year and it was a year I will never forget. I have some who demand hugs and some who would rather run into a fire than be hugged. One child, last year toward the end, sort of hung around the back of my chair. I was very aware of her but did not let her know. It was so sweet.

I have a batch of new books to entice them this year. Repetitive and colorful is what they love. Luckily I am able to read the same book over and over and over again without losing what is left of my mind. One of my few talents. :rotfl:

Well, the ultrasound didn't find anything. The specialist recommended exploratory surgery as well as our regular vet, but we just aren't willing to do that to her. She wouldn't eat the food they gave us, but wants to eat so we gave her some lamb and rice dog food in a can to see if she could keep that down. Seems to be working so far. She is currently asleep on the couch. Seems really happy laying on the clean clothes. I'm not going to fuss at her.

As far as Jacob's therapy, it changes. Right now the Occupational Therapist is working on his handwriting so she has him do different exercises. The physical therapist has never told me what all she does. The speech therapist is working on getting him to eat. He has to try 5 new foods this next week. Hmmm, we have 5 meals planned at WDW, think we can find something for him to try. He just has to eat a bite.

Look up Sensory Integration Dysfunction, you can find a lot of info on it and ways to help children. The child that doesn't want to be hugged may have sensory issues, also a child that hugs too much. Therapy balls help a lot. Basically those big exercise balls people use. Kids slightly bouncing on them can help them focus. Applying pressure to the top of the head can help also. Or applying pressure continually along the head, arms, torso, and legs without the hands ever leaving the body. Trying to think of other things I have learned.

Hopefully we are on our way in the morning. Still plan on taking the dogs to the kennel. We trust them to take care of Constanze.

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Melissa,
I am sorry to hear about Constanze still having problems. Glad she at least ate something. I agree that I would not put a dog through and exploritory surgery. I had to make that decision with my first Shih tzu who was only 3 years old. It was heart breaking. I hope she gets better soon and am glad she is back at home with you now.

With the OT for Will and his handwriting (it is still awful) our OT told us to get a baking sheet and spread clay on the bottom about a quarter inch thick. Then sharpen a dowel the size of a pencil and have them write the alphabet in the pan. The resistance of the clay not only builds up the muscle in the fingers it also helps them feel the letters better.

SG,
If you have wigglers and those who are wiggly or who like to touch people and things annoying those around them give them something for their hands. Squish and koosh balls did wonders for Will who was a wiggler and toucher (loved textures of clothing). Beware there are kids who will only take them and throw them at others so it won't work for them all.

Still trying to get those first 4 days of ADR's booked where I would like them. I have hope after reading that Kristin was successful. I am now considering canceling and renting a car to spend the week at Cocoa Beach if I can do it for the same cost of our Disney trip.

Melissa, I am so sorry you did not get a clear answer. We also try to go the holistic route whenever possible. I thought this group might be of help to you - there is some great info and the folks are very informed. I have learned so much from this group - mine is set up so I can read it from website as the messages can get overwhelming, but you can do a search and/or ask about Contanze symptoms. They welcome newcomers and questions.

Hope this helps.
Give her a pet for us?

:scared1: Are you allowed to say that on here? Or is that considered blasphemous? I think you'll be able to get something workable. Hey, if DivaK can land a Le Cellier during free dining less than 2 months out, anything is possible! Too funny that you just bought a cooler, too. Great minds think alike. Thanks for the tip about GKTW, too. I always wondered what happened to all the stuff that got left behind.

Still haven't been able to snag POP for late Sept or early Oct, but will keep checking.

Fingers crossed and, like I said, if Kris got Le Cellier, you should certainly be able to get Pop for F&WF.

JM--Glad to hear the pup is improving, even if only slightly. Have a great time with the family at Universal! And I LOVE that family video--thanks for the link!

SG--I can't believe you mentioned blackberries--I just spent several hours yesterday trying to eradicate them from my back yard. The berries may be delicious, but the vile weed is taking over my creek! Ironically, I expect them to be ripe right around the time we're leaving for WDW. :headache:

Paid off the last part of our trip today, so now it's just wait, wait, wait (and try to lose a few more pounds before free dining undoes everything I've managed to do the last 6 months).

M&N,
I wish I knew you were looking for Pop at that time and I would have let you know when I canceled pop so you could have called and got it when it was released.

TB,
If you really wanted to hear blasphemy I would explain all the troubles we had at Pop this year. Since we also had lots of issues there last year we defected to All-Stars for October. Telling those tales would get me lynched a lot faster than saying I wanted to cancel and go to the beach. lol

My vacation to POP has been paid in full. :thumbsup2

We will be there 9/12 - 9/19.

Anyone else going to be there then???

Jess,
We stayed at POFQ for a few days in June and loved it. It is so pretty and peaceful. My only problem is I loved it so much I didn't want to go to the parks. lol Glad to hear it is all paid off.

Bonz,
Ever feel like a thread killer? :rotfl: I have no clue where everyone is hiding.

So sorry to hear about the house. There always has to be that one that falls through. Just see it as there is a reason that it is not the right house for you. I know you will find one you love so much more.

Wish you were moving closer to me.

Take care,
Angela

What the heck is going on at WDW? Another accident this time with the busses. Hopefully, in the mid afternoon nobody was standing on the bus?

Two Walt Disney World buses crashed this afternoon in front of the Contemporary Resort on Disney property, injuring 12 people, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The rear-end crash happened about 2:40 p.m. when one southbound bus stopped to merge as the World Drive narrowed from three to two lanes, said Sgt. Kim Miller, an FHP spokeswoman. The second bus, which was traveling slowly, did not stop in time.

About 50 people were on both buses. A dozen were taken to area hospitals. Miller described their injuries as minor. Neither bus driver was hurt.

The buses were ferrying guests from the Magic Kingdom to the Caribbean Beach and All-Star resorts, Disney spokeswoman Andrea Finger said.

The accident comes 11 days after monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg died when another train accidentally backed into his.

Finger, said the company is conducting its own investigation and working with law enforcement to ensure the "well-being of those involved." Disney sent representatives to the hospitals where passengers were being examined, she said.

"There's nothing more important than the safety of our guests and cast members," Finger said.
