We have had six cats over the span of 16 years. First ones were Cobain and Gilmour by way of my daughter. At 17 mos. Gilmour had kidney failure so we regretfully had to put him down. It was like a funeral procession as we all visited the vet. That was the first time I saw my hubby really cry over the loss of a pet even though we had had two dogs before that. These cats have really wormed their way into his heart.

Then came Scooter as a playmate for Cobain. He was very vocal and took to my hubby like glue. Then we took in Miles and Ella since my oldest son could not have them in his apartment.

Then five years ago, Scooter had congestive heart failure and passed in the vet's office. I remember the look of utter disbelief in the Vet's face when he came out to tell me. It seemed that the minute he passed, Cobain became the very vocal one. Almost like Scooter never let him get a word in edge wise!!!:lmao:

Two years ago Josie came here because my daughter's son became allergic.

A year ago, we had to put Cobain down. He had become very arthritic and lost so much weight and was in such pain. That was the hardest or so I thought. I swear the minute we got home, then Miles became the very vocal one. Now that Miles has passed, his sister Ella is the noisiest one. :lmao: Josie is a close second.

My hubby who never really liked cats growing up is so cute when he talks to the girls:goodvibes

I see we were sinking down on the board so I thought that I would kick it up.

Sorry about the pet woes...it's amazing how we can get so attached to them:sad1:

Don't be so silly Kimberley! It's fine honest....You were not being selfish you were reaching out to people and thats perfectly OK! Don't you dare appologise for that OK?...
Kimberly, don't feel bad, we would want you and anyone else to vent, cry or just morn the loss of any of our furry friends.....

Okay, and thank you. :grouphug:

Hello all! I just checked in on another thread and Gizmo (and someone else) answered and invited me over here...

We are doing the Westbound Transatlantic in September...

Yea! So glad you came over!!!

....My hubby who never really liked cats growing up is so cute when he talks to the girls:goodvibes

Awe...that's cute that he's become so attached to all your furry family members.

We were supposed to have a Dis at Montjuic to watch the fountain show the evening before our Med cruise, but I was so exhausted that I was fast asleep before it started. I wish I had made it now.

Corinna

I have this on my list for Friday evening (right before passing out for the night!) :rainbow:

We arrive on Sept 17 at approx 9:15AM.....we would be interested in doing a guided tour with you. There are 2 of us. Let me know if you are still looking into this. :goodvibes

I am definitely looking into it. I'll keep you posted.

Two more, anyone?

It takes a lot more than a flag to offend me! Pride for your country is never offensive, even if it is the UK! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Where in Australia are they going? We are on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

We haven't added our name as we have 34 hours of travel with 2 children to get to Barcelona, so we're not sure whether we will make it, But we would love to try. I'm not sure whether you are giving HRC numbers or not? Can we add ourselves, but apologise in advance if we don't make it?

I agree that pride in one's country is never offensive. Plus, I think we have the best countries in the world represented on this board. party:

DW is looking forward to meeting you and talking with you; we love the Queensland area.

I will add your name to the list. I will be providing numbers to the HRC when we get closer but they're not going to charge us for a specific number - they just want to know how many wrist bands to have ready to identify us for the reduced drink prices.

I have always had PC's......until one day my DH came home with a MAC Air laptop for me, I was not impressed and couldn't work out how to use the silly thing. So after a little help from my friends I worked it out and I LOVE IT!!! DH and the girls have PC's and I can't stand it when I have to do something on their computers. The Mac is faster, easier to use, doesn't have those annoying messages all the time and doesn't get viruses like PC's. I just love mine and will never go back!
Someone who is technically minded will tell you all the important stuff that I don't understand, all I know is I love it! :goodvibes

One of my Master's degrees is in computers, so I've looked at this issue quite a bit:

For the same amount of money, a PC will actually be faster than a Mac.

Ease of use is definitely a personal issue. It's mainly what you're accustomed to. Personally, I find PCs much easier to use. I was at my youngest DD's high school Color Guard organizational meeting last month where they were using a Mac to give the presentation - six people gathered around and they couldn't figure it out! My oldest DD is a computer graphics specialist, working in marketing for a large home builder; she uses a PC and runs circles around her colleagues with Macs.

Macs DO get viruses - just not nearly the number as PCs; the low life, scumbag ne'er-do-wells (maybe I'm prejudiced) who create viruses want to go after the largest target population they can, which is obviously PCs.

Bottom line is that you need to look at your budget, what you're comfortable with, what your intended uses are, the applications available to support those uses, and what support is available. (DW is lucky I'm there - I have to clean and optimize her PC regularly, and sometimes wipe the disk and start over :confused3)

Anyone who wants to talk geek, I'm here! ;)

A 'heads up' for anyone who has a little time and would like a taster of a med cruise with DCL.......there is a great video report on You Tube, you can find it under 'PGC Disney Med Cruise' (not sure I can post a link here) and its fab!:cool1: Its posted by a family who I think are on here and a UK site too :thumbsup2

Just thought someone may like to see it as they fly from Liverpool to Barcelona to get on the Magic etc:cool1:

Thanks for the heads up. What a film!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes

I am heading home. I will catch up with you guys tonight (assuming I can stay awake) Now to figure out what to have for dinner.

chicken and rice here.:thumbsup2
Hello all! I just checked in on another thread and Gizmo (and someone else) answered and invited me over here...

We are doing the Westbound Transatlantic in September. Dh and I and our four daughters ages almost 18, almost 15, 13 and 12. We are homeschoolers and do school pretty much year round so we can do stuff like this at odd times! We've got flights to Barcelona, hotel, and are working on excursion decisions now. I still need to get tickets from Orlando back to home when the cruise is over... so will do that soon....

What else should I have in an intro? lol OH OH, I know, this is our second Disney (or any other kind of) Cruise.

Welcome!! Glad to have you aboard. Will just be DH, Dennis aka DrHug, and I. Our 11th Disney cruise, we are addicts. :sad2: We met at Disneyland 43 years ago Sept 9, married 43 years ago Oct 6. We are always celebrating each other and life. :lovestruc

I have terrible news for our family to pass along, and if you're a pet lover, you will understand. About 15 minutes before I was suppose to have arrived at my mom's Sunday morning, I called her to let her know that I was running late and was just about to leave home. It takes about 70 minutes to get to her place. She said that was okay and don't rush. She was still getting ready herself. When I arrived, she was standing up between the couch and coffee table, visably shaken up with red eyes. I looked over at her husband, who was sitting in a chair, and he was just staring at the floor, sniffling. Something was certainly not right. My thoughts were that maybe they had just had a fight or something.

I asked if she was okay, and she said "I just lost Sidney", her Bichon Frise. So I'm thinking "Well why aren't you outside looking for him?" Outloud, I asked "What do you mean? You lost him?" Well that's what didn't feel right as soon as I walked in. He wasn't there barking at me with his tale wagging a hundred miles an hour.

"He got ran over by a car" was her response. Since she was still waiting for me, she went to the credit union to get some cash from the ATM, so Sidney went with her. She had put on his collar before leaving the house and put his leash in the car with her purse. When she got to the credit union building, she parked and got out of the car. She turned around before closing the door to make sure she didn't close it on him, but he wasn't there. Apparently he saw two young girls in the parking lot, so he darted out of the car to make new friends, unknowing to her. She kept calling for him, walked around the car, but couldn't find him. Then she looked up and saw the two girls staring at the street. This is the part that is still unclear to me, but for some reason he darted across the street. A car hit him, breaking his neck. She said "All I saw as a white puff laying in the road". After being stunned, she asked the girls if he was dead, and one tearfully said "I think so". Mom ran into the street, and she said she saw his head slightly move. She picked him up, and his eyes were fixed on her, so she closed them, just as a nurse (and she is one) would do. About two minutes later, he became lifeless. If there can be any good, we're so thankful that his death was nearly instant, but we believe he had no pain.

We're just so devasted. I feel so horrible for her, and even as I type this I am crying. He was her true companion, and she relied on Sidney for love and affection because she doesn't get it from her husband. She's also afraid her husband is going to blame her because Sidney was in her care when it happened. Of course she never expected him to dart out of the car, so it's not her fault. My grandmother and I have been talking about it, and everything about the story is just not usual behavior for Sidney to run so far away from his mommy. Although some have already said "No, Kimberly", I feel guilty. If I had been at her place on time, she wouldn't have had time to go the ATM with Sidney, and it never would have happened. It's just not easy to stay away from the "what ifs".

Please send good thoughts in the wind for my mom....she needs them. Thank you! :)

Well, I have pages and pages of posts to catch up on...

Have a good one.
Aw Kimberley, I'm so sorry for your whole family. Sending hugs. It's not your fault or your Mom's fault, but it will take more than our little words for you both to accept that. :grouphug::grouphug:

Kimberly,
So sorry to hear about your mom's dog. I know how hard it is to lose a "family" member. Hugs & good wishes to you & your mom.

Okay I am back ....trip to Phoenix was somber ....

Anyway I had to chime in on the PC vs MAC thing ...

Its very simple ,

PC cheaper yes ...no doubt about it ...

Mac easier to use ...without question

If your typical use for a computer is everyday things like browsing the net , email and bills and such the Mac is the best choice ...Now of course Mac can do many things ...

The thing I never liked about a PC is every time you get one , you get a ton of crap you dont use nor want , which in some cases leads to pops ups every time you turn on the computer , Free trail this and free trail that ... With Mac you get what you need , nothing more , nothing less ...If you want to add software you do ...period .. I mean, why is the Ipad sold out everywhere ?? Because it provides everyday people with a simple and easy to use computing experience ...

Now I agree ...I am sure PC's for the same price are faster and maybe have things like blue ray and so forth , but if your looking for a computer for the everyday world , then to be honest as far as quality and the long lasting ability that apple has over other PCs , the choice is clear ..Mac

I was a PC , and got tired of crashes , viruses and endless BS ...So I went to Mac , and converted all of our business computers along with our personal ones , and to be honest after almost three years I have not had ONE issue ...not a one ...Customer service is above and beyond anything I have experienced with PC ... I will never go back to PC even if it were given to me ...

There is a learning curve to Mac , but its "Duh Things" Like wow thats the way it should be ... being on windows made you over think ...Mac brings simplicity in soo many ways ....those that have switched to mac will agree ..

Thats my 2cents ...I know everyone has their own opinion ..... I love my Imac , my Macbook Pro and soon to be iPhone 4 ...:rotfl2::rotfl2:

The pet stories are overwhelming. I am thinking Bambi will make me happier! Pixie Dust to all who have been through something so horrific - you too Goofy Granny as I still stare at Lucy and Elsa's pictures!!!

Thanks Sandi but you made me cry again

Kimberley, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. I'm really sorry. I have loved and lost pets, too, and it's tough.

Welsome to all the new people! Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I could have written DisneyVegas's post. I have gone through several pc laptops and I got sick of all the popups and viruses. I too switched over our office to Mac and coverted some of my coworkers, who ended up buying their own macs. It has been simple and easy and the machines are working as promised within minutes out of the box. It was all so easy and continues to be reliable with no issues.

I just bought an iPad and I loooooooooove it. I'm typing on it now. I'm bringing it with on our cruise.

Love to hear about your DD is in color guard. I did many many years of marching band and then drum corps (in fact still doing it - guess I just don't want to grow up). I am a percussionist, play almost all the woodwinds and did a little guard too. Yes, I am a band geek and proud of it.

Thank you again for all the warm words of comfort.

Okay I am back ....trip to Phoenix was somber ....

Todd, I'm so sorry it was difficult. I hope you still had a nice celebration of your friend's life.

Love to hear about your DD is in color guard. I did many many years of marching band and then drum corps (in fact still doing it - guess I just don't want to grow up). I am a percussionist, play almost all the woodwinds and did a little guard too. Yes, I am a band geek and proud of it.

<Flashing Letters> BAND GEEK ALERT! I was also in marching bad, so I'm a proud band geek, too! My friend Peter got me into drum corps. He used to be an instructor in Haboro, PA, so he's taught me a lot about competition! We've gone to many DCI (Drum Corp International) performances and yes, even the live semi-finals shown across the country in movie theaters! (Now that is a true geek!)

We're fortunate that there are typically two performances here in Columbus area every year or at the least, several in Ohio. In fact, one of the high schools here in Dublin (where I call home) is hosting again this year "Emerald City Artistry in Motion" on July 7. Personally, I love Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, Santa Clara Vanguard, and The Cavies the best....and your band, of course! :rotfl:

I admire you for the HUGE commitment you have made to continue your passion! That's awesome!

Kimberly, I'm so sorry for your loss.:hug::hug: And please be sure to give your mom a hug for me also.

Welcome to all of the new-comers as well as all of those who are joining us again!

It must be very strange looking at someone who is just like you. Probably now though you have forgotten that feeling.

To be perfectly honest with you, I never truly thought about it that way! I always thought we looked different, especially if we're talking face to fact. When we were little, we REALLY looked alike - so much so that I'm not even sure who I am on pictures! Now that we're grown, we sometimes look alike, sometimes we don't. What makes being identical twins interesting is when somebody who knows my sister sees me and thinks I'm her and I have no idea who they are! That actually happened with my sister's boss the one time! I didn't know her (I knew her name but not what she looked like) and I felt so badly after it was over. What can you do though? :)

Right now, my sister has a hurt back from teaching - her one students throws himself on the floor and she has to pick him back up. He's not a little boy either, from what I've been told. Anyway, she went to the doctor today and he wants her to stay home from school until Thursday - well, there's no way my sister's staying away from her kids during the last couple of days of school...so she's going in tomorrow. Hopefully she'll make it through the who day.

:)

I was afraid of this: Went away for a couple days over the weekend, when we got back there are 40+ pages to catch up on. I managed to get through 10 of them this morning before work. Just 30+ to go, not counting all the posts that will be put up while I am trying to catch up.

Jon

Hahahahahahahah, Good Luck! :lmao:

We have the builders in again. Not too big a job though. Knocking a wall down(:headache: ) right now between the garage and a small study at the back. The study was/is very small. Also a door is going in from there to the garage, so an easier way to get there than going outside. Should take 4 days they say, but giving them the week or so after last year's history of delays!!!:lmao: Then, the room could be an extra bedroom if anyone wanted. At the moment it has office stuff in there, the tumble dryer and all the various recycle boxes and bags. The recycle things can go in the garage afterwards.

Sounds like you all organised, Hope the builders don't put you out too much. ;)

I too am looking for the scoop on the islands. We have been to St. Maarten before, but that is it...

I can't get over how long your flight is! I hope that the girls are able to sleep!

I appreciate everyones inoput with the FE's. I think that if it were a standard 7 day from PC I wouldn't be so anal - but with everone flying in and dealing with the luggage restrictions, I don't want anyone to have to bring something that they don't need...

I mentioned this eons ago, and am still interested. I think we are going to order 2 of them and let the kids fend for themselves. They seem to be able to sleep in any position, so...
No one has any info on the islands, I'll post a thread on the main board, maybe someone from the EBTA will have some answers.
I know, our flight is a killer! The kids are great travellers, but I won't expect them to sleep for 34+ hours, I will pack their iPod Touch's, Nintendo's and their activity books I made them. All I can do is cross my fingers!
You are doing so much work with the whole FE thing! I know everyone really appreciates it, Thank-you!
No reply with the 1st class sleeper either? Will post on main board.

Happy Monday, everyone. It's been a long time since I've posted here. I've just had all kinds of problems w/logging on and being able to access threads (I'm talking hundreds of error messages after clicking on threads). Could be my computer, but I can't tell you how frustrated I've been! As a result, I haven't even been able to keep up w/the threads (#6!) 'cause I couldn't access them, but we are paid up and we are going on this cruise :thumbsup2 . I'm just sorry we missed out on ordering the t-shirts :sad2: .

Silly Computers, Welcome back. :goodvibes

I have terrible news for our family to pass along, and if you're a pet lover, you will understand.
Kimberly, I don't even know what to say, That is just devastating. I can't even imagine losing my furbaby. Please don't blame yourself, It was just an accident and everybody can see that. I'm sure your Mom's DH won't blame her, Nobody could. My heart goes out to you and your family.

It is 83 here with humidity at 52%. I went out for groceries and that was all I could take. Still having problems with my Vertigo. I am seeing the Dr today and will ask about maybe getting my allergies under control since that is what brought on the last episode. Now I am getting nauseous a lot too. This really sucks.

Hope your feeling better soon!

I think I might wait and see how many people are doing it then decide as I really don't want to embarress myself by supply rubbish pages to everyone lol! Does anyone have any pics of nice ones theyve had/made?

I'm with you Sarah, Don't want to embarress myself and trade rubbish with treasures, I will post a couple of my scrapbook pages tonight. :rolleyes1

Hi, I am Hayley, I am travelling with my DH Terry and 2 DD's Lucy and Bella who will be 8 & 9. We are from Australia. Welcome.

My hubby who never really liked cats growing up is so cute when he talks to the girls:goodvibes
Aren't DH's just big sooks with animals? My big manly DH is such a softy when it comes to my little white fluffball furbaby that he didn't want!

DW is looking forward to meeting you and talking with you; we love the Queensland area.

Thanks for adding us to HRC!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto........Why do you think Mac products sell out so fast? Coz they're awesome! :thumbsup2

I appreciate all the good thoughts and words of wisdom and sympathy in regards to Sidney and mom. Truly they are appreciated. I hadn't even thought about it being good that she was there when he passed to run over the rainbow. I promise to pass along all your sweet sympathies and support to her.

So sorry for your mom's loss. One of my retired greyhounds went over the rainbow bridge a few years ago and we still miss him.

<Flashing Letters> BAND GEEK ALERT! I was also in marching bad, so I'm a proud band geek, too! My friend Peter got me into drum corps. Another band geek here! In addition to high school band (played bass drum, bassoon, flute, piccolo), I marched in a Revolutionary Fife & Drum Corps for many years, doing parades, musters, and other shows. [My condolences to the Brits.] Our band director used to run DCI tapes continuously, and we always had alumni helping us. When I first started working in Atlanta, the Partner I worked for was a sponsor for a DCI corps and I went to many of their shows, rehearsals, etc. Always amazing!!

Geezers are over or around the 60 mark, but we don't turn anyone away!!:lmao: Geezers in Training(GIT's) are slightly younger and we oldies give them some hints and tips to help them on their way!!! Dedicated Walkers are very welcome to come along and help us all after our hot chocolate as we have a habit of forgetting where we need to be!!:rolleyes1

Well, that answers that question. We belong! It's so funny: I always see signs that say discounts for senior citizens and I always have to ask, "How do you define senior citizen?" Could be 50 (AARP), 55, 62, 65...you never know.

Please send good thoughts in the wind for my mom....she needs them. Thank you! :)

Well, I have pages and pages of posts to catch up on...

Have a good one.

Kimberly, that is so sad. Please hug your mom for me. The last furry girl we had before this one passed 16 years ago and I still miss her.

Great seeing your return!

Although you missed out on ordering the embarkation/logo t-shirts, did you notice that you can still participate in the Mickey Mouse Club t-shirts? Details on ordering that on your own is in Post #1. Also, you could consider making your own embarkation t-shirts with iron-on paper, if that's something of interest to you.

Thanks, Kimberly, we'll have to check it out.

:lovestruc

That is so sweet; I feel that way about my DH, Wayne, too. I thought we had a short engagement, but you got us beat. We met on a blind date on 1/27/73 and married 9/1/73. Best decision I ever made.

Silly Computers, Welcome back. :goodvibes

Thanks; I hope we can stay connected from now on. (Something still keeps logging me out, however, even when I'm in the middle of a reply like this.)

Got to add on the Mac/PC debate. I remember back in the early 90s when I used to work on a Mac, there was such a big fuss about some PC software called Windows. When I saw it, all I could think is that the Macs had been doing that all along without all the fuss. In my heart I'm a Mac gal, but we've got PCs so DH can work at home when he needs to.

Has anyone else been watching the fuel prices? Unless there's a sudden drop in the next 2 days, we are not getting a credit for the fuel surcharge. It closed on Monday right around $75 per barrel and we have to close under $70 to get the credit.

I'm going to run the numbers and see if I would save anything by canceling and rebooking.
