Well, the kids' had a very nice opening night performance of Christmas at the OK Corral last night. I am so happy about it:thumbsup2 I had never directed before and I was really afraid that when I did I would end up with a disaster. The kids were all really good and talented and made my job so easy. Out of 20 kids I really only had two I had to deal with behaviour issues for, and only one stage mom (yep, mom of one of the aforementioned two:rotfl: ) and even those two came around when they realized I would not be pushed around. One tried to go nuts last night. I pulled her aside and explained to her that she could start behaving right then or I would pull her from the show and explained to her exactly how we could quickly and easily work around her not being there so yes it was possible to pull her 30 minutes before curtain. I could see the gears turning in her head, and when she realized I really could do it boy she turned around that behaviour ASAP:rotfl2:
We sold plenty of tickets--enough that I am conifdent now the show will break even (we had a shoe string budget--scripts being the big expense, but I did not want to lose the nonprofit company any money:eek: )
Here is a link to a newspaper article about it if anyone is interested:

The kids in the tuxedo is Rio:cutie:

How cool is that?!? I'll bet the kids were great. Good job, Hadley and Rio.

Hey they pics look amazing for a low budget!!
I can sympathise with you re sleeping and mind racing
A few nights ago I could not sleep for thinking about where I was going to get my wine at the port at barcalona, yes I know I am nuts:goodvibes

Thank you all:goodvibes The show was loads of fun and the kids did GREAT. I do have to note that Marika was in the cast also--her photo just didn't make the paper;) Orlandothebeagle--It was a very low budget production! $96 for scripts with permission to perform, $35 on programs, poster printing doanted, $6 for props that we couldn't scrounge and a set built from scraps. The kids did their own costumes:dance3: It came together looking like a lot more than that--I think we turned a few hundred dollars profit:yay: (all of which will go towards other children's prodcutions). Also, don't lose too much sleep--I it is pretty easy to find wine in Barcelona:thumbsup2

Sounds great! We could have a nano-micro-mini-meet :lmao: . Maybe after the holidays? BTW, do you know PNO4TE (she lives in F'burg)?

Definitely, after the holidays! My DH and I are building our own house, and we are the builders, the worker bees.... We are scrambling to get the master bath tiled and the hardwood floors installed before he goes for back surgery early next year. Two of my kids are coming for Christmas, which means I need to put up the tree next week. So, after the holidays will be a much better, and less stressful, time for me.

And no, I don't think I know PNO4TE. What is her real name?

Marilyn

Her name is Elin and we met via the food threads. She is an amazing source of knowledge re: the F'burg area.

sounds like a great cruise.have fun. you been working a lot of overtime at least one country is getting overtime.

I believe its as bad here as it is elsewhere at the moment.

I am just lucky that my company still has work coming in but its dropped off a lot! Overtime for me means weekend and evening work (I work in IT) so some things have to be done during that timeframe. We work as the IT department to small/med businesses - in NZ that means mostly 10-40 user sites. At least they still need to maintain their IT systems even when times get tight...

I just put my hand up when the opportunity arises. During the day its very quiet at the moment though.

Thanks for the wishes for a nice trip too - I'll be sure to post how it goes - it could be the last trip for a while with the current economic climate. :(

Howdy everyone,
just wanted to say we are back home safely after a great cruise. I see Linda has introduced herself.
We have cruised with her and Bruce twice before, they are great people to cruise with.
Another friend of ours, Tom & Marilou booked this cruised last week on board. I hope he will post soon too.

I will post a few pictures this week and also do a trip report on the boards later is anyone is interested. I'll let you know when its done.

I am very tired but will check back tomorrow,

Kathy

... [edited]....

Now on another note... maybe some folks should begin to send some small hopes and prayers my way ... (or not). ... you see ... have I EVER mentioned that my spouse makes THE BEST Turkey? It's always tender and moist through out ... and it's something she lavishes great time and love preparing for us?

griffith1.jpg

Well... I went out today to meet up with 2 good friends and their kids for an afternoon at the Griffith Park Observatory. I was pretty involved with the preparations... making snacks, packing stuff, double checking this and that ... then we hustled out the door while I secured our loving over-weight Samoyed indoors ... I double checked that he was baby-gated out of the living room and all bedroom doors were closed.

We had tons of traffic getting there but oddly enough all 3 cars actually converged AT The entrance to the Observatory parking lot at the same MOMENT? Strange but a nice beginning I thought... (???)... well... we walked in to stand in line and wait the 40 minutes for the next series of show to go on sale - and I noticed someone ahead of me buying a ticket? Hmmm ... I thought ... what show did that fellow just buy I enquired .. and I learned they still had seats left for the current show which was set to begin in 15 minutes ... and at about 10 minutes before a show they stop selling tix. I realized - oh boy! ... we can get into the planetarium right now! SO we bought and went right in.... PERFECT!

On exiting we hustled down for another show starting in 10 minutes ... again PERFECT!

On exiting we went outside on the dining room patio for hot chocolate and havy snacks (which I packed) ... and enjoied what goes down as one of THE most beautiful sunsets I've EVER experienced of LA. Glittering city lights I've NEVER seen from this vantage point with an UNBELIEVEABLE canvas of clouds with the fading glow in the sky. A memory to last a life time in those minutes... and the 3 Dads gathered simply stood there soaking it up ...

060310-130..jpg

We then went in to view the exhibits - a short 30-40 minutes and then we departed - one to head to a hocky game - I and the other Dad retired to his home where his spouse cooked up a modest but simply incredible HOME COOKED meal .. the like of which I never see except from my Mom - who's no with us any longer. A simply wonderful meal that brings back a few memories from my childhood meals!

We had long conversation after dinner - talking about all manner of fun and serious things - plus my friend managed a quick and simple repair of my hard drive which I brought for him to look over - woo hoo! - then I departed.

I thought while driving home... WHAT an incredibly perfect day. 2 great friends and thier kids (and most of their families) shared in a humble, simply wonderful and memorable day!

That is ... until I got home. Upon entering ... I was carrying one of my two sleeping kids in the door... and as I entered the dog sort of took a glance at me and instead of greeting me he turned tail and I heard him dash through his dog door. OK... so it sounds as if he's been naughty. So what ... I thought. I tucked the two kids into bed - then went into the kitchen.

Alicia is out of town this weekend as it's the once a year that she has to work a convention - and this time we did not go. Sometimes we all go too. So I've been on my own a day till next week. And the first thing I notice is ... Oh Noooo.... the refridgerator door is OPEN. The BIG platter with the turkey is on the floor - and has been licked clean. Looking further into the fridge ... about 1/3rd of the bottom shelf is EMPTY... that was where we had some RUTH Chris left overs. Arrrgh! Plus I think there was a small container of Chinese take out too. Plus oddly enough there was also an empty box of Baby cereal. It was one of those pricey organic baby cereal brands... the ones you pay an extra dolar or so for for the privilage of having the fancy label and so on.

So I thought... every dog eventually has his day. Most of the turkey was already gone. The platter had about 1/2 of one breast and I think some greasy left over things/cuts we usually don't eat... and the body of bones had already been discarded (mostly). We still had another medium sized container of turkey cut up ... but the platter was the BIG one at this stage of the game. and out over weight dog got THAT plus a Ruth Chris steak and the box of Chinese left overs. Oh ... AND the box of gourmet organic baby cereal.

I think if Alicia were home tonite she would have gone and shot the poor thing.

I however, gave him a light slap on the back near his tail with a stern "BAD DOG" where upon he ran for the dog door again. Then I bid him come in 10 minutes later (after I cleaned up the floor) ... in a sweet voice I called him in... and he was all wagging tail and ears up. He's an old fella ... and so what ... he too had a totally PERFECT DAY ... as I had. So what!

Thxgvg_funny.gif

So what am I gonna tell Alicia? Well... I'll not go and mess up this day worrying about THAT little detail. Anyone with any sage advice is welcome to cough it up. I'm gonna check my email and try real hard to keep this day a simply perfect and beautiful one!:woohoo:

Does this dog ofours look INNOCENT or GUILTY?

Ooo....

You're gonna love this ... our wonderful dog just cut loose with some intense doggy "gas"... and boy oh boy is it .... intense. < chuckles > Be thankful you're not here! < confused expressions >

Yes, hope you have a nice trip, I dont think you are as bad as me but I have some kind of compulsive disorder which makes me do any extra shifts that I am asked to do, seems I cant say NO! I blame the disney cruises.

Glad to have you back Kathy, hope it is not too horrible being back, cruise blues and all that.

am back and all caught up again. LOL... I knew this was a chatty bunch. Loved looking at all the pet pictures and had to post on of my baby girl
001.jpg

She is just a plain ole dog, but we love her.

Added our pins to both NewMexico and Georgia. Hopefully we will be home or in another place before the cruise.

She is beautful! There's no such thing as a plain ole dog!

Morning All

Well I've been ill all weekend so haven't had a chance to get online. Still ill but off work today so trying to catch up. Appologies for the updates but wanted to check through and respond to previous posts

Here is a picture of my old collie, she was 16 years young when we had to let her go, I am blabbing right now, I really miss her.

Ah! She was so pretty! Its weird cause Im sat in my mums today and we have the ashes of our little babies here and after reading that and seeing her beautiful picture I had to go and look at them! Although you come to terms with it it still upsets you some days! It's coming up to the anniversary of Falcor passing on and I can't stop talking about it these days

Hi All! I'm hope I'm introducing myself in the right place!

We have booked our first ever Dinsey Cruise and this is the one we are taking! I am so super excited about it that I can't stand it! I've been trying to catch up on this post, but I'm not getting much work done! :) Ya'll are very chatty! But I love it!

Hope to get to know a little more about what to expect, and to get to know some of you!

Hiya! Welcome to the thread! This will be my 6th Disney cruise but my boyfriend Dans first! We're both mega excited too! I did both the previous TA cruises so any questions let me know!

I just added our pin to the map :)

I can't wait to meet all of you on the cruise. I know that we have almost 2 years and a cruise (7 day DCL) before that, but we've never been on a vacation that long. Can't wait to see what type of things they find for us to do on sea days.

Annette :)

Honestly last time they came up with some fantastic things! Disney always pull out the stops!

Someone mentioned being interested in what they do on the 5 sea days. I was busy the whole time with tours, dance lessons, trivia, brunches, movies, craft sessions, art lessons, Ducky Williams lectures, history lectures, Improv classes, talent shows, game shows... and it didn't seem like 6 days were enough.

THIS time, I am sitting on deck 4 for 5 days (sad it isn't longer), just watching the ocean and chatting with friends who stroll by. NOTHING. I'm doing nothing. I miss the ocean SO much and am hoping for the rocking seas of the first TransAtlantic. What a blast! Walking down the hall was hard enough, let alone trying to get to the front row of the WD Theater! Heals? HA! (Oh, and Scott and I had the most fun watching ladies in high heals--me included--trying to walk on Formal night. :rotfl: )

Fun times. This won't be the same cruise, but it will have its own fun personality.

Oh and they had that Stage Works - did you go to that? They did a behind the scenes at the theatre and you got to go on the stage and be nosey! That was cool

Oh and the murder mystery thing they did over a few days!

I was busy and I plan on being busy (and Deanna I seem to recall you saying you were just going to sit and knit before the last TA--so yeah, I'll believe it when I see it:rotfl: ). We had dance classes, LOTS of games, deck parties and BBQs, the improv classes and Ducky lectures were big highlights, adult tiem in the Oceaneer's Lab, etc etc. Like the shorter DCL cruises there were always more good choices than time to do it all.
The only thing I would say is that on the WB they sceduled the Adult time in the Oceanears lab at the same time as dinner (8-9pm) which was so disappointing!

Hi everyone,
just had a minute to say hello from on board the Magic.
Its been a great cruise and I have lots of pictures to share when we return.
Our friends decided to book this cruise too and i am sure Linda will be posting soon.

It was cloudy but warm on Castaway cay today.
Time to run, I will check in on Sunday.

Kathy

Cant wait! Glad you're having fun!
