Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

When your online for Peter Pan's Flight in WDW if you look at the wall behind the boats people are boarding you can see a little Tinkerbell hanging from a wire fly back and forth. I can't recall seeing her recently though, is she gone?

on Cinderella's carousel behind the castle you can ride Cinderella's horse - she is the one with the gold ribbon tied on her tail:thumbsup2

If you had Wings was one of my favorites! Remember it well from my childhood years. Remember those Swan Boats also by the castle - had forgotten about those. Where was the ride 20,000 Leagues located? I remember the ride, just don't remember where where it was.

We were also told that the Spaceship Earth sphere would fit into the aquarium during our Dolphins in Depth tour :thumbsup2

I can't believe I have something that no one has shared yet! (I think... my brain is numb after reading 42 pages!) If you go inside the tree at Pooh's 100 Acre Wood in Magic Kingdom, you can see a small nautilus carved above the door frame in tribute to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride which was there previously :goodvibes Here's a pic of it from 2005:

Besides Mr. Toad's, this is one of my favorite tributes! I tried to find it last trip to show my mother but couldn't! I had found it every other time but last trip I didn't see it. Can someone remind me again where it is located? Is it the front doorframe?

awesome thread!
Here be mine
In the ballroom scene in the HM the pictures that are shooting at each other are modeled after two of the AA's in POTC.
I'm actually really surprised that no one has posted this one yet:rotfl:
That is very interesting! Those dueling ghosts are my favorite from the ballroom scene :)

I finally finished the whole thread!! Most of these facts can be found in the book "The Walt Disney World Trivia Book- Volume 2- More Secrets, History and Fun Facts Behind the Magic" By Louis A. Mongello.

There are also tons more! Here are a few more from the book..

"Cast members playing Snow White and Ariel are not allowed to get a tan, even when they are "off duty". Snow White can't because she must have fair skin, and Ariel can't because mermaids don't have tan lines"

"A special crew polishes every one of the brass poles on Cinderella's Golden Carrousel Every Single Night"

"Look closely at the facades of the buildings in Liberty Square. Their changing styles mark a progression through time. If you put an "18" in front of each house number, you'll get the year the building's facade was in style"

"A failed wave-making machine, built off the southern shore of beachcomber isle near Disney's Polynesian Resort, was scuttled on the bottom of Seven Seas Lagoon. While original plans called for the machine to make waves large enough for surfing, the waves caused such beach erosion that the machine was shut down. It now serves as a reef for fish."

"Chef Mickey's serves 4,000 eggs, 1,700 Mickey-shaped waffles, and 1,500 pancakes every day at breakfast"

And here's a question from the book... Disney is the largest purchaser of _____ in the United States... Answer: Explosives! (for the fireworks!)

I definitely recommend the book.. this is a small sampling of thousands of facts... most laid out in a quiz format with answers at the end :)

This is no longer true. Believe me. I rode more times than imaginable this summer, and I now know every detail of the ride!:rotfl:

FYI for anyone interested in facts and stuff, I'm reading through "walt disney world notecasts - secrets " it's an iphone app! :)

Aw, that's sad about Tinkerbell I wish they'd get it working again. I enjoyed seeing her whiz past when I was little

Glad I caught myself! I was just about to say "that's not a nautalis!" but then I realized you meant the submarine Nautalis, not the animal.

I can't confirm or deny the speed, but I've often thought the same. I've actually thought a lot about it, too, and I feel that it was darker inside years ago, and the darkness seemed to make the ride feel faster, just my opinion. But as a kid I just remember how dark it was, and not being able to see the track AT ALL. The last few times we were on it I could easily see the track the entire time.

I think the dark is what makes Space Mountain. It's a rather small rollercoaster with very little excitement, until you turn the lights off.

I agree entirely. I remember as a child that it semed much scarier. It felt a lot faster and was so dark that you couldn't see anything. I have also noticed that you can see the track now and it seem much slower. Can't wait to ride it next March after the refurb to see what has changed although I am a little sad to see one of the classics change.

This is true. There are differents songs playing on each "limo." Here's the current list, courtesy of Wikipedia:

Songs heard on each car (Car license plate)
  • 1QKLIMO: "Nine Lives"
  • UGOGIRL: "Love in an Elevator" & "Walk This Way"
  • BUHBYE: "Young Lust", "F.I.N.E.*" & "Love in a Roller Coaster"
  • H8TRFFC: "Back in the Saddle" & "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"
  • 2FAST4U: "Sweet Emotion"
Note: These songs may change due to maintenance or technical reasons. There is no guarantee that a particular track will be playing in the mentioned coaster train.

By the way - there are "Hidden Mickeys" on the license plates of the limos

I don't think she's gone, just moved. If I recall correctly, I spotted her in August flying around the bedroom at the beginning of the ride. It was the first time I'd ever noticed her there. But my memory may be faulty, so I'll try to double-check it during my next visit to WDW in two weeks. :)

She is to the right directly after you pass through the nursery window, and the again in the second pirate ship scene. Any other PPF questions?:lmao::rotfl::goodvibes

When TOT was being built, it got struck by lightning.

In the energizing portal in space mountain, they use blue strobe lights. The strobe lights cause your pupils to dilate, causing the ride to seem darker then it actually is.

This is a great fact about SM. My ds was learning about how light affects the eys so I can't wait to share.

Hmm....actually the pupils contract, allowing less light in. Dilation would mean they open up more to let more light in. But the effect is correct...

I actually assumed that the blue of the launch sequence, and the red of the return, were actually based on frequency shift...if you accelerate to a very high speed (we're talking a serious fraction of the speed of light at least), oncoming light will appear blue-shifted (shortening of the wavelength), whereas light behind you will appear red-shifted. So there was some science to the color choices, perhaps in more than one way...

Fascinating doc....I'm comfortable in saying that you are probably the first to propose that theory for the colors.:thumbsup2 Kudos from one 'doc' to another.

is built to replicate the tank of the famous diving horse from Atlantic City. Yes, I actually did see the horse do this as a child. And yes, the building does look a lot like it.
