Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

So im bringing this post back from the dead lol.

Growing up as a kid I would ride Thunder Mountain with my dad and every time we rode he would tell me it used to go upside at the the one lift hill that has the fake piece of broken track that looks like it is still headed up just to scare me and my brothers. I know now that it never did and to this day every time i pass that part it makes me chuckle and think of him!

What a sweet memory to hold in your heart :goodvibes

At the time I was about 8 years old and didnt find it to sweet lol. I was so terrified lol. Now that I am older and he has passed it does hold a special place.

He also told me the People Mover was part of Space Mountain and I remember throwing a temper tantrum thinking my parents were dragging me onto Space Mountain and I was no way having any part of that in the dark. Turns out now im a Rollercoaster lover looking for the biggest, fastest and tallest lol.

Thanks for sharing. That's what life is all about is making memories for us to hold onto. :)

Exactly! We are bringing our 6 month old daughter for her first trip at the end of February to start another generation of making Disney Memories! :mickeyjum

Well since it got revived... i'm still reading thru all the fun old posts, But here are a couple.

1. On BTMRR the first cavern you go thru and during the first lift hill (the cavern with the waterfall), Was designed as a homage of sorts to the old Rainbow Caverns attraction at Disneyland which was located where the west coast version of BTMRR is located today.

2. The East coast version of the ride has several show elements borrowed from the Thunder Mesa and Western River Expansion attractions which were originally planned for that section of the MK.

3. Thunder Mesa was more than just a blue sky idea, in that they even had a audioanimatronic owl located in the Exposition Hall back in the early days talking about what guests could look forward to experiencing. Many years later when they were renovating the theater/hall (I want to say for The Walt Disney Story, but could easily be wrong) they actually discovered the figure still installed behind a wall....and in functioning condition. Appearently years earlier during a refurb they just walled off the section it was placed in instead of removing it.

4. At the Land Pavilion, Part of the Kitchen Kaberet/Food Rocks theater still exists. Soarin's Entrance area only takes up the space used for the theater seating and Preshow. The Actual Stage had anything of value removed and then was walled up, but still exists behind that dummy wall.

Glad I found this, thanks for bumping it up! Did just spend 2 hours reading it though...

I cannot believe that after all these years of being part of this site, I have never seen this thread before. Now I think I am to old to get through it all. I'll have to take it a little at a time.

Some of these are hilarious, to the point of silly. The one that hit me first was the monorail station at Epcot being built backwards. I couldn't believe that someone would actually believe that. Trains run in both directions folks, if they wanted to run it the other way all they have to do is reverse direction. There is a reason why it runs the way it does and unfortunately, I was not taken into their confidence when that decision was made. I do know that if you watch old video's taken before EPCOT Ctr. opened it shows that they are indeed running in the opposite direction that they do now. That was when they used to bring people to the area to show them what was going on. I can only think of two reasons why they decided to run it the way it is now and those would be that; 1) if you are driving on World Drive toward MK the Monorail that is closest to you is headed toward MK, just like you. 2) (and far more likely) is Disney obsession with the show. Movies almost always have previews. The loop through Future World is just that, a preview of what is to come. A build up of excitement for those on their way in. And a third (yes, I know I said two) might be that it is just less hassle to get the trains on-line from the train parking locations at the start of the day.

Anyway, I am going to keep plugging through this entire thread as soon as I get enough time (assuming I can live long enough) to read it all.

What a great thread! Started reading it last night and finally finished page 55 today. Of course, I should've been folding :laundy:! ;)
Can't wait to look for some of these when we go back I September. :woohoo: Anyone know of anyone who has compiled these in a document/file already?

Lots of good interesting things in this thread. I made a list to take with me on my next trip.:thumbsup2

I'm sorry, I have to ask since I can't find the original post: what loop?

TIA,

Mx

They're discussing the segment of monorail track that goes through Future World inside Epcot. Most of it makes a pretty good circle, or "loop".
