It depends on which airport is involved. Have been dropped off, drove and parked at the airport (a local airport that used to have free parking, and now is still not terrible), drove and used offsite parking that shuttled you to the airport, and Uber. Lately the pendulum has been swinging more to the Uber to a major airport option.

I live 7 minutes from LAX without traffic (10-15 with). I can usually get a friend or relative to drive me, but if I can't, Uber or Lyft is fast and cheap.

In other cities, I usually take public transportation. If I lived on one of the metro lines, I'd take it, but it takes 40 minutes to get there by bus and I get carsick after about 15 minutes on a bus (I can go 20-40 minutes on a train). Throw in the fact that I'm about to get airsick on a plane, and it's just not viable. I love cities with good public transportation, though! Taking a trip to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival soon and I'm nearly as excited about the metro system as the monuments and museums.

If we fly out of our small local airport, 11 minutes drive from home, we usually drive ourselves and park. The walk across the parking lot is short and easy.

If we fly from NYC (preferably JFK), we’ll either use a car service, occasionally have a friend or family member drive us, or if it’s a light suitcase trip we can take the train/air train.

When you go to the airport, how do you get there?
It varies.

Sometimes we drive ourselves and leave the car in a long term lot.
Sometimes our son drives us (either in his car, or ours).
Sometimes we take a car service.

We live about an hour from MCO. There used to be 2 shuttle companies, and the competition kept prices down and service better. One bought out the other, and they immediately raised prices 30% and added more stops so it takes longer to get there.

Next time we go to the airport, I'm either parking long-term or maybe even doing a one-way car rental.

Airport transportation depends on where we are flying from. When flying out of BGR (which is 15 mins from home), we have an arrangement with some friends who travel several times a year, as do we. We do "back-up" for each other. If departure/arrival times are sane, we just take each other to the airport. If they are crazy, we have each other's car keys and will swap out cars. SO... let's say they have a normal-timed departure but will get back at midnight when they return. We'll take them to the airport for their departure. On their return day, we'll take their car to the airport in the early evening and park it in our "usual" location. When they get back, they just drive themselves home. Same if they have a stupidly early departure- they'll take themselves to the airport and we'll go find the car in the lot later in the morning and bring it home. Saves around $100 in parking for a week-long trip.

If we fly out of Portland (2 hour drive), we drive our own car. Last time DH and I flew, the car was acting up and at the airport it would have been parked in an open lot for a week- and it seemed the car issue was worse in the cold. We rented a car to drive to the airport, and that was cheaper than 2 bus tickets and then Uber/cab to the airport.

When we fly from Boston (4 hour drive), we either take a bus from Bangor to Logan OR we drive to Portsmouth, NH, and take the bus from there.

When flying out of PWM or BOS, I also have the option of staying overnight at my sister's and the driving to Portland or bussing to Boston for my flight. We do this when the flight departures are stupidly early or arrivals are exhaustingly late.
