Scheduling additional housekeeping questions

We're renting points to stay in a Poly studio. It's an 11-night stay, so full clean on day 4 and towel & trash on day 8, right?

My boys require a lot of nagging to pick up after themselves which is not fun for any of us (yes, one of those boys is my husband). Apparently they are content to live in a lot more clutter than I am, so I'm thinking of scheduling additional housekeeping as I know I won't have to nag to get them to straighten up before the housekeeper comes. :-) And maybe I won't spend as much time cleaning as I did on the cruise we took this summer. Sad state of affairs, I know.

My question is can I just upgrade the trash & towel to a second cleaning for the $15 difference? I was thinking I'd do that and schedule an extra full clean which would keep the total to $45 and the room cleaned roughly every 3 days.

What do people staying in studios do on longer trips? I'm sure if you have a w/d and extra living space, this is probably less of an issue? Thanks!

Our experience is that housekeeping has trouble keeping the normal schedule, making any changes only makes for more issues. I would check with the front desk since they apply the charges but be prepared to babysit the cleanings.

Maybe you should just tell the boys that the housekeepers are coming tomorrow but forget to set it up. :-)

Ha Ha. I definitely considered that. :-) It will work once at least. One sheet change in 11 nights when you're walking all day in the Sweatiest Place on Earth seems less than enough to me. I will definitely shower more than once a day, but humidity is not my friend. :-) That's a shame it's so tricky with housekeeping. Thanks!

I don't believe you will be able to upgrade the trash and towel for the difference in price- that is not one of the options I have ever been given as a member- you can pay for a full cleaning that day but it will cost the full amount.

No full cleaning is on day 4 and trash and towel is day 8. We stay 15 days twice a year and this is always the schedule. Of course we get another full cleaning on day 12.

Trash and towel is on day 4 and full clean is on day 8.
For trips from 4 nights to 7 seven nights, you get trash and towel service on day four. But when you stay longer, you get full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel service on day 8 and then the cycle repeats like n2mm stated.

Sorry. I didn't realize there was a difference between less than 7 and 8+ nights.

When we've done our 10 Night Trips - we are fine with just the full clean on day 4 and the trash/towel on day 8. We make sure to bring our own shampoo/conditioner as the tiny bottles won't be enough for those stints and we've used the free washer/dryer as well.

I'll definitely be bringing my own shampoo etc. And even hand soap as I like a pump instead of a bar. And I don't mind doing a load of towels as I'll be doing a load of clothes I'm sure anyway. I guess I'll just add the one cleaning and stick to the 4/8 schedule so they hopefully won't get as confused. Since I don't care so much about trash and towel, I'll probably still ask if upgrading the service to a full clean is possible. I'll post what they say if anyone is interested. No biggie either way. I'm sure after 4 days DS will have managed to get sand in the sheets. :-) Just an hour ago, he dumped his shoe full of sand onto my carpet. Here's the dust buster, kiddo.

Thanks everyone for responding!

Since I usually stay 10 to 11 nights and sometimes order additional cleaning, my experience has been as follows. With that long of a trip you get full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towel on day 8. To get to 4, you count the day of arrival, e.g., if you arrive on Sunday, full cleaning is Wednesday and trash and towel the following Sunday. My experience with dropping the trash and towel and changing it to full cleaning has been that they have done that by subtracting the regular trash and towel stated price. However, I have not stayed at Poly although I assume it should be the same.

As to usual process for ordering an extra cleaning, be aware that I have uniformally found at the resorts at which I have done it that Housekeeping is definitely ruled by the Peter Principle, in that whoever is responsible for assuring you get the full cleaning for when you requested it to be done has already risen to their level of incompetency in the organization. The odds of housekeeping actually doing the full cleaning for the day you ask break down as follows:

1. If you order it through Member Services before you arrive and do no follow up, the chances of getting it are zero. Housekeeping never gets those requests or, at least, always denies ever getting them.

2. If you order it at check in at front desk, and do no follow up, the chances of getting it are zero. You get the same lack of knowledge claim from housekeeping as with ordering it through Member Services.

3. If you call housekeeping from your room and try to order it, you will first get a long speech usually exceeding about 10 paragraphs of prepared text that essentially tells you that dastardly DVC members do not get full cleaning with their reservations, and you should not be so stupid as to even ask. After that speech is over, you explain that you already know the rules, and know it cost extra and still want it. The call-taker will then express surprise and shock that you would actually want to do that and presses the matter further under the apparent belief that you are just kidding. Once convinced, the call-taker will take your full cleaning request. Your chances thereafter of actually getting it are still zero.

4. After you have called and set it up with housekeeping, you need to call housekeeping again, preferably the morning of, to remind housekeeping that you have a full cleaning ordered for that day. In doing so, you will have to go through those same speeches and expressions of shock again, after which you will learn that the call-taker cannot find anything to show that you had set up a full cleaning day, but now the call-taker will defnitiely see that it is done. It is after that call that you now have an 80% chance of getting the full cleaning, not 100%, but better than the zero that existed before.

I'm dying! That's hilarious! Thanks for the humorous rundown. I will definitely call.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I guess I'll try the upgrade and not change dates so as to reduce confusion.

That's hilarious!
Hilarious and also true based on my own experience. I once tried to push back my full cleaning by one day but the end result was that I had to make multiple phone calls over several days before the room finally got that full cleaning, 3 days later.
