SB - Magical Moments? & ?? on pattern paper

We had quite a few magical moments during our visit to Disney. Should I give those a layout all to themselves, or intermingle them on different pages, with a "Magical Moment" commentary? Of course we didn't get pictures of each moment but journaling will play a big role here.

I have heard that if you use a patterned paper as a background, you should use a plain colored paper for matting. I got fireworks paper, it is black with bursts of color. Will it be too loud to mat each picture individually? Or would you recommend putting a smaller piece of plain paper over it, basically using the patterned paper around the whole thing?

I used MK paper as background, but since the caste on the paper was of Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty castle, I covered it up with a 5x7 of WDW Cinderella castle. I then simply cut out circles of other fireworks pictures. The title is at the bottom to help hide the rest of the wrong castle.

How are you doing your pages/lay outs? Park by park? day by day? All the characters on one lay out? That will have an impact on how you want to journal.
I do my Disney albums day by day. So I would incorporate the "magical moment" journal on a page with pictures of where it happened or on the day.
But if you had a lot it could be really neat to have a page just with your journaling.

I usually Mat everything! I pick colors that are either in the back ground or a contrast color that blends well. Also depends on how busy your pictures are. I love lots of color but then use simple cuts of my photos minimal cropping.

I'm doing my album park by park so I'll base my answer on that...since this was my grandson's first trip and everything was pretty magical, I'm just doing a lot of journaling in order to tell the story...for example, I just did the Triceratops Spin page and made sure that the journaling told about the fact that this was Christian's VERY FIRST EVER Disney ride and how and why we picked it to be...I am a compulsive "chronological" scrapper, but if you aren't doing your books park by park, you could do a whole SECTION of just your "Magical Moments" separate from the everyday Disney stuff...a page dedicated to each moment would be how I would go, but like everything else, it all depends on preference.

With patterned paper I would say definitely mat each picture with a solid color before putting it onto the pattern paper...the patterns can very easily "take over" the picture so you'd want something to "ground" it.

Splashmtn99, although I wasn't able to view a large image of your page, I did see enough of it on the thumbnail to get a good idea of what you meant. I like it! Was that black paper you used to mat it? I had been thinking of using a bright paper to mat but I like how the black turned out on your page.

The few pages I've done tend to be themed. For instance, in my ds' baby book I themed a bunch of pictures of him sleeping for one page. Various bath pictures, with the title "Rub a dub dub, Jared's in the tub". That's actually my favorite layout - until these Disney ones I started!

I will put all parade pictures on on page, and journal in our magic moment from that event there.

The characters, I was planning on (all except the princesses, who will get their own page) - each picture has the character posing with one or both of my kids. Various characters from character meals or just meet & greets. I was plannnig to put them all on one page, although they were not all taken at the same time. I also have their autographs which will be incorporated into the page. Mickey got his own page too.

My fireworks layout is complete! I'm very happy with it. I did use a black mat, I took a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of black cardstock and cut it in half. Centered each half sheet in the middle of a 12 x 12 fireworks paper. My pictures I layered half on the black cardstock, half on the patterned paper. Since the pictures themselves are against the night sky, they are pretty dark and it's not too overwhelming against the patterned paper. This is probably very confusing to read but it works. I then used a white pen against the black cardstock for journaling.

I also decided against one magical moments layout. I'd rather pop them in where they fit on the different pages.

Jen, I'm sorry I didn't see your question to me before you scrapped your layout. If you click the thumbnail in my album, it's supposed to take you to a larger image....and click again if you want even larger.

I scan them at 100 dpi just to get them online -- they aren't SUPER sharp....but they do. The file size is still something like 350kb to 700kb though.

Yours sounds neat. To answer your question though, the background paper was a night sky with fireworks over Disneyland's castle --- so I HAD to cover it. The mats are all a glitter type paper -- even the letters.

Although I decided against a Magical Moments page, I thought of a great layout title for anyone who might be interested. Taken straight from Disney's 25th anniversary theme - "It's time to remember the magic"!

I had decided to do kind of a "spin off" of that...I just got back the BEST black and white pic of my grandson from Target...I had his Easter pics done there and decided to commemorate our Disney trip at the same time...he's wearing his Mickey Ears and a Mickey polo shirt and holding a plush Sorcerer Mickey...it is fantastic (or maybe Fantasmic????)...it's going to be my second to the last page in the book and I'm going to use "Remember the Magic of DISNEY" using the new Disney Logo...which I just LOVE. I scanned one of our t-shirts because I couldn't find that logo anywhere on the web.

I probably should have clarified...it was new for me!!! LOL...we missed going to Disney in 2002 so it may not be as new as I thought...I do love it though. I wonder how it will be to paperpiece...probably WAY hard...I hope I'm up to the challenge because that's a big part of the page I'm planning.

I just checked out splshmtn's sb and it was wonderful. Your scrapbooking style appears to be very similar to mine so I could really appreciate your pages. The "What I Did" pages are really cute and I will probably copy that idea for my album-several others too! And I was dying laughing when I read your Disneyitis page-too funny! Everybody should check out these pages if you haven't already.

Thanks. It's been a while, so I'm not sure if what I used is still available on the market...but something like it should exist.

The letters & black mat & photo mats are cut from a type of glitter paper that has a clear coating on top and a peel off type backing. It's kinda thick. I simply cut my circles for the mats....and used a lettering template for the letters....and THEN peeled off the backs before sticking. The letters are on top of the black glitter paper mat. The Goofy & title box are placed to cover the rest of Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty castle that was still sticking out. I THINK the picture in the middle was a 5x7 to cover even more of the wrong castle.

I spent a VERY LONG DAY on page 1 of that layout at the computer typing & arranging before I FINALLY came up with that idea. Page 2 went really quick after that. By the way, the title was printed in black & white & just colored in with red marker leaving little white circles.

I took some of those for the bottom that best suited ME ---and changed some only slightly. Too scary! It is ME!!!! LOL
