SAB age ?

Hi, what do you think the minimum age for SAB waterlide would be ?

I don't know if the child needs to be a certain age, but they do need to be a good swimmer. There is a current at the end of the slide they need to swim out of. My DS tried it when he was 7 but he wasn't a good swimmer and got dragged down - I was down at the end waiting for him and had to pull him out. I had gone down before him and was waiting at the end but the lifeguard there said that was not allowed. That was the one and only time he tried. Now that he is 9 he may do better - he'll have to try in November! Riders also have to ride alone.

Personally, I don't like the slide. You have to lay down and it hurt my back on the bumps where the tube is connected. But I don't think the kids mind.

If you have younger children, there is a small swimming area with a slide behind the SAB slide and near the lagoon. The slide is just right for the young crowd (DD is 5 and still likes it) and they can wear life vests and can sit with an adult - can't do either on the big slide.

The slide at SAB is VERY long, and very scary. You do have to be able to swim alone and very well, to exit the slide area. A parent can't wait for a child at the bottom, they have to be able to swim unaided to the exit. There is a very strong current at the bottom of the slide, one that could be even too strong for a decent swimmer in the 6 - 8 range. Personally, I plan on staying away from SAB until both of my children can go on it. If one can, the other can't, that's a recipe for disaster here. Last summer they were 5 and 2, so they were both too little. I'm probably going to wait until the youngest is at least 6, maybe 7 and a pretty good swimmer before we go back. That way, they'll both be able to use it and will stop a lot of fights. The best slide on property for those still in need of flotation devices, or for parents who like to be able to "catch" their kids at the end IMO is the slide at the Boardwalk. If you have younger children, or not very strong swimmers, I'd recommend staying at the Boardwalk, the slide is VERY long and isn't too scary.

If the pools/slide are a major part of your stay, and your kids are younger or not good swimmer,s you'd be better off staying at the BW instead. At the BW slide, parents can wait at the bottom, there sin't any current in the water, and best of all, the kids can wear life jackets. My seven year old neice who isn't a strong swimmer went down that slide over and over and over, perfectly safe in the BW provided life jacket.

As I suspected. I guess we will wait until the kids are older to stay at Y&BC. I love the theme of these resorts but the pools are a big part of our stay, which is one of the reasons I chose to go fpr 2 rooms at POFQ. The kids think the slide there looks great.

My 7yo DD went down it a couple times with no problems, but didn't love it. She is a fairly good swimmer but is not a thrill seeker.

My two daughters LOVED this slide!!! They were 9 and 8 and are members of the swim team, so they are strong swimmers. However, the 8 year old is not a thrill seeker by any means. We think we scarred her for life on the Tower of Terror when she was 6......but she says she might try it again this year. Now, we just have to decide whether or not to take DS(6) on the ToT and chance scarring him for life as well

Just a note that SAB has a kiddie slide right where you enter for the big slide. Both my boys were able to go down that one with floaties on their arms. I was able to wait right at the bottom to still catch them and they walked back up on their own. BTW, my boys were 2 & 4 at the time and SAB was just about their favorite part of the vacation.
