Runners' stairway from hell

This was just so poorly thought out. The promenade on the other ships is great for runners and walkers of all abilities. There are plenty of people that will do flat walks for exercise who can't do stairs. Or people who use wheelchairs and strollers that want a stroll outside on the promenade.

a) not a fan
b) what I foresee now, is people making a "U" by getting to the stairs on deck 4, then turning around and running around the aft to the other side, then turning around when they get to the stairs on the other side. (i.e., not actually going up) Will not be surprised to see runners going both directions (which is annoying, but sometimes is the case if they are doing ship operations in the mechanical area at the forward part).

We almost exclusively use stairs on ships. Otherwise I couldn't eat five meals a day! I guess if you have mobility issues it would be a problem, but if you have mobility issues you aren't running either.
Even with mobility one exercises. My mother would walk slowly for her exercise around while I would run and periodically pass her. An activity we could do somewhat together. Or, I would just walk her speed with her. Not anymore. It is a shame that those with mobility issues can’t go an entire loop.

Just a thought but when you reach the stairs can’t you just make a U turn and go back the other way and thus avoid going up the stairs?

Yes. There are stairs at each end of deck 4, which is the length of the 7 life boats. For me it is 151 walking steps between the stairs.

But you might be a walker and this could definitely limit that. Plus as others said I was a runner who would push two children in a jogging stroller and have a dog on a leash with me. Not that you can have the dog on the ship unless service dog but you are certainly allowed to bring your children. Especially if those children are babies and you can't afford or can't get a spot in the nursery this could prevent a run. Personally, I'd just look at is a more intense work (yes to the hill training up there!) but I can see it being an issue. It's definitely a poor design imho.

But this requires runners and walkers going in both directions in the same areas. On the other four ships, there is signage indicating the jogging/walking direction on the promenade deck (deck 4), always counterclockwise (all left hand turns) which is most common for running/walking tracks.

Just to clarify, are there steps both forward and aft? Is there any connection on deck 4 linking starboard and port?
Thanks!

This ship seems really poorly designed overall. What happened?

I'd welcome these stairs on the track, personally, because I usually walk/run somewhat hilly terrain at home, and a flat walk/run doesn't do much for me. However, it's a giant middle finger to people who can't do stairs (like many elderly people and people with limited mobility). What is the reason for this deck to be this way? What is preventing a complete loop on one deck?

Yes, there are steps forward and aft at each "end" of deck 4 on both sides of the ships. But it gets much worse...
