Rumor: The Great Movie Ride closing for good?

Just a thought, I don't know if anyone else has said this yet, but apparently the reason why the changed the name from "MGM Studios" to "Disney Studios" is because they didn't want to be tied up with MGM anymore. Probably the reason why they want to replace the Great Movie Ride is because it features non-Disney movies.

How about tearing down the stupid hat in front of it instead? Can I see a show of hands on that one? ;)

I would not care to go on a ride with all Disney Movies, if you are going have a ride about great movies and showing only Disney movies not be right. I love Disney but there is more then movies made by Disney, We are talking about the golden age of screen. I don't want to see the take out singing in the rain because its not Disney.

Just my $.02
I agree with another poster.... it's called the "Great Movie Ride" so to have only Disney movies wouldn't be right.
But they REALLY REALLY NEED TO UPDATE IT! :cheer2:
They need to put in a few "new" classics..... maybe from the last 10 years!!!
put in a scene from Titanic or Pearl Harbor..... or Pirates even!!:thumbsup2
Who else has suggestions?
Maybe that's what needs to be on a web site?! :thumbsup2

Except that.. many of the movies inside that attraction are neither MGM *OR* Disney. In fact, the only MAJOR U.S. theatrical releasing organization NOT represented either with animatronic scene or a clips in the final reel ... is Universal... who compete with Disney in the theme park arena.

All the motion picture properties presented in "the Great Movie Ride" are covered under separate licensing agreements..

Those main motion picture licenses are:

Footlight Parade (Warner Brothers)
Singin' in the Rain (MGM)
Mary Poppins (Disney)
The Public Enemy (Warner Brothers)
The Searchers (Warner Brothers)
Alien (20th Century Fox)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Paramount Pictures)
Tarzan the Ape Man (MGM)
Casablanca (Warner Brothers)
Fantasia (Disney)
The Wizard of Oz (MGM, later Warner Brothers)

However, it is worth noting that world of licensed properties can be a particulary stormy one ... so the future of GMR, while it appears solid today, is only as good as those underlying agreements mentioned above.

I wish they would give rehabs to GMR and Star Tours. They both need it bad. I also wish they would get rid of Indy Jones stunt show. It has been there way to long.

:scared1: You can't get rid of Indy Jones!!!!! Especially with the newest one coming out next month!!!!:thumbsup2 which BTW.... looks AWESOME!!! Harrison Ford has aged so nicely and the movie looks like LOTS of FUN!!!!!
It would be nice to see it updated just a bit.... maybe add a scene from the new movie.
But.... the Studios just wouldn't be the same without the Indy show! :goodvibes

Totally agree about giving GMR a rehab though......

It's so hard to believe that this park has been around almost 20 yrs. The GMR was one of the few attractions that was open from day one. Closing it would be like closing the COP at MK. It is and always will be a classic, must do at least twice (b/c there are two different "takeover" scenes and if you're lucky you'll hit both!) attraction for my fam.

It does need to be maintained and updated however, that is where WDW has failed on COP. The last scene of COP was updated what.... 15 yrs ago?? And the seats are dirty and broken, carpet is dirty. But it's a nostalgic attraction and has a place in our hearts just like GMR. I remember being at DS when GMR was being re-hab'd and did not get to ride it. The trip was not the same.

Last, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that the script is "memorizeable". We qoute movie lines all the time. Here's lookin' at you kid.popcorn::
