Just a thought, I don't know if anyone else has said this yet, but apparently the reason why the changed the name from "MGM Studios" to "Disney Studios" is because they didn't want to be tied up with MGM anymore. Probably the reason why they want to replace the Great Movie Ride is because it features non-Disney movies.
Except that.. many of the movies inside that attraction are neither MGM *OR* Disney. In fact, the only MAJOR U.S. theatrical releasing organization NOT represented either with animatronic scene or a clips in the final reel ... is Universal... who compete with Disney in the theme park arena.
All the motion picture properties presented in "the Great Movie Ride" are covered under separate licensing agreements..
Those main motion picture licenses are:
Footlight Parade (Warner Brothers)
Singin' in the Rain (MGM)
Mary Poppins (Disney)
The Public Enemy (Warner Brothers)
The Searchers (Warner Brothers)
Alien (20th Century Fox)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Paramount Pictures)
Tarzan the Ape Man (MGM)
Casablanca (Warner Brothers)
Fantasia (Disney)
The Wizard of Oz (MGM, later Warner Brothers)
However, it is worth noting that world of licensed properties can be a particulary stormy one ... so the future of GMR, while it appears solid today, is only as good as those underlying agreements mentioned above.
