How much trouble are they going to give me if my kids try to wear them through sec. I figured I should just pack them and make them wear something else but I was wondering if it has been a problum.

Check the tsa website. TSA.gov I doubt there will be a problem with security, however, you may encounter a problem at the parks, from what I hear they are not allowed. You might want to check on that.

From all ears - Deb's site:

For the safety of all guests, skateboards, roller skates, scooters, inline skates, and any type of footwear with wheels are all strictly prohibited on the public walkways of Walt Disney World. The only exception to this is at the Fort Wilderness Campground. Unless you're staying at Fort Wilderness, leave the wheels at home. There's so much to do at WDW, the kids won't even miss them. Check out All Ears Net's® Beyond the Parks pages for a few ideas to keep kids busy outside of the theme parks.

In addition to the issue of going through security, you may want to think twice about it from a safety perspective. If you have to evacuate the plane quickly those skates are going to be a problem.

In addition, where do you think the kids are going to use their skates in the airport? With all the people walking around the typical airport, they'll be causing a lot of trouble.

These SKATES should be treated as such and NOT worn in crowded public places.

The TSA does not care since your children will have to take thier shoes off either way. The airport authority may have a different view.

I almost got knocked over at K-Mart about a month ago by a kid with those skate shoes. He lost control and fell and ran into me. I think they should be banned in stores.

I e-mailed WDW a few months ago. Any sort of roller skates, specifically including Heelys, are prohibited in the theme parks and resorts. This was the official word from Disney.

So the problem becomes, if you let your kids take them, there will be almost no place they can use them.

They are a huge safety hazard from several perspectives. At the very least they are a menace to pedestrians. You have all these people walking about, pushing strollers, wheelchairs, all looking at the castle, or splash mountain... and WHAM! a kid with wheelies flies in front of you. These shoes (skates?) have a place, but that place is not in public thoroughfares, themeparks or stores.
