Rest Break mid-afternoon Question

Do any of you all really take the rest break the UOG recommends? We always have gone in October, but due to Fall Break changes, we are considering August. It was usually too cold for me to swim, so I don't know what we would have done during a rest break anyway. I am sure it will be plenty toasty in August!

If you have small children, the rest break is highly advised. Looks like your youngest is 5. That child, and perhaps the 9 year old also, would benefit from a nap in the middle of the day, but many kids those ages don't like naps.

If you're going in August, take the midday break and have a swim in the resort pool.

We go according to our and DD energy level. It's vacation-we get up when we want, we eat when we feel like it and we break when we have had enough.:)

It usually works out that we swim before we get ready to go eat dinner. Or after for a nice night swim;)

We usually do MK and Epcot full days. AK and DHS are usually only a little over half a day. We always take a full day off in the middle of our 7 days there. Having that day off is really a lifesaver.

It's so hot and crowded in the middle of the day that you won't get much done, anyway. We like to go back to the hotel to rest and get refreshed, and then we're able to stay later in the evening-when it's cooler and starting to get less crowded-than we would be able to if we stayed through the afternoon. I would suggest trying it the first day to see how it goes.

You dont have to go back to the resort, a late lunch or Early dinner ADR accomplish the same thing, just take your time and enjoy it! But they mid day, especially in the summer can be brutal. We dont take them every day, but at least half the time we plan a break and stick to it. A nap or swim in the pool really does make a difference!

We went to a park early and stayed until about 11:30 (when the crowds and lines started to grow). We went back to the hotel, shut off the lights and ALL took a nap. My kids were 9, 4, and almost 2. They do not normally nap, but it was dark and cool and we often slept until 4:00. We then went to another park for the evening. We were there for 9 days and wanted to enjoy ourselves, not necessarily see everything.

It was honestly the most relaxing 9 days we have ever had. Most people can't believe that a vacation to Disney with 3 kids (two pre-schoolers!) could be relaxing, but the naps were really nice. We got a lot of sleep and the kids never had any tantrums or got over-stimulated.

Yep - we usually take them. Last year none of mine would take naps, but we'd rest in the room, watch a little TV, walk around the resort - nothing that took any energy! :rotfl: One year, when my youngest still took naps, my DH slept wit him in the room while my girls and I went for a walk. We were going to go to the store (we were at CSR) but took a detour to the playground. They had a blast playing while I got a margarita! Then we all took our drinks to the hammocks and just swung - it was one of our best memories!

Yeah, I really love the "Pool Day" that we have done in the past. We are kind of squeezing this trip in, so 4 days to play in the parks is all I have.

I meant we dont take a rest break every day, not that we are skipping the parks, although the next trip were planning some half day activities with DQ and waterparks.

100% agree - August is so HOT in the afternoon that just going back and cleaning up in a nice AC room is great. We always take about a 3 hour break and head back at night. There is nothing better than night time in the MK. If we went all day in the hot August sun I don't think we would appreciate or enjoy the evenings as much. The parks are also pretty late in August so that is nice.

Usually we get up early (eat in the room), head back for a rest at lunch (snack only), head back to the parks at about 4pm - make reservations for a table service dinner and hang out late.

So is it really horribly hot in August? October is up to 85 during the day and we do get hot and sweaty but is August even worse?

We always say we're going to take a break, but rarely do. Last trip, DD and I took a break from EPCOT (walked back to BCV) while DW looked thru the shops. When DD was really small, we'd just find a quiet booth in a corner in a CS restaurant somewhere, let her stretch out and nap for a while.

No matter what Disney park we are at we always take a mid day break and we are just 2 adults. We use the time to have a relax, sit with our feet up, have a little sleep, upload the pictures we have taken that day onto our laptop, got for a swim or what ever we feel like doing. We feel that a break is good as we always use EMH so my mid afternoon we have been on our feet for ages so we like a rest!

Well it is hot, but the humidity coupled with all the walking on the pavement really saps you quick during the mid day. Plus were from a cooler dry climate and not climatized at all!

My first post, but I have been to Disney many times. In my experience, it is much less necessary to plan rest breaks in the cooler months, but almost essential during the summer months. When I was there last November, we went 10 days straight in the parks without a single mid-day break.

If you get hot and sweaty in October, you'll die in August! It might say "only" 92-97'F on a thermometer, but it will feel like 102'F with the intense humidity. We're used to it, so my family loves August, but for those who cannot handle the humidity, daily afternoon breaks are a lifesaver.

When MK is open late I usually start at AK and then do an afternoon break. I will then head over to MK in the afternoon and catch the fireworks and SpectroMagic and a few rides. It's a great idea.
