RENDEZVOUS AT THE FORT - The Fort Wilderness DISMeet Trip Report October 2020

Yep. Through Nashville and ATL. There isn't really another way without adding several hours. We will come through Nashville today after rush hour, so that shouldn't be bad. I should be hitting ATL around 11am and coming straight through I-75 unless Google says there is a wreck or something. That's about as good as it gets unless I wanted to go through between 1am and 4 am.

j

yeah that kind of sucks. i realized Joe was coming through atlanta as well. i guess if you hit it right you should be ok. good luck.

tiggerdad, this morning it looks like Delta is sliding to the West in the Gulf and won't make landfall in Louisiana until early Saturday morning. Let's hope that it keeps sliding and comes in even later.

It's now a CAT4, expected to be a CAT5 over the next day but weaken again some before landfall. The path of this storm is totally dependent on what the impending cold front decides to do. If it stalls, then the storm will continue west, if it speeds up, could shift the track back east.

Folks around here already losing their mind because they didn't take Sally seriously. Most gas stations already sold out of gas. It's a madhouse here in the FL panhandle once again.

I had a reservation in Destin last May. It got cancelled since everything was briefly closed. By the time everything was opened back up we were getting into hurricane season and I told the wife I didn't want to cut things short having to leave. Isn't the season the opposite there than every place else in Florida? I mean is summer the season in the panhandle where winter is more the "in" season here on the "mainland" ? (Ha- ;) )

I need an intervention.

I just realized, in laying out clothes for the DISMeet, that I have 6 Mickey Mouse t-shirts. :smickey:

And the one "Hawaii" style MM shirt (no tuck) that I traditionally wear on any Magic Kingdom day (our only park day this trip).

Bama Ed

PS - and YES I'm bringing them ALL!

Chris is pretty good and his big truck can turn a lot tighter than mine. He's also big enough that I don't think he would notice running over a sign post or electrical pole or even a Silverado. :lmao:

Hopefully we both get sites that aren't too bad. I can generally work the camper into most spots. It may take a few back and forths to move it around things, but we can get it there.

I am probably real close to the same length as Teamubr, so we should have no problems. We were in 1100 in 2017 with the same trailer and the dually. The new truck has a moose bumper on it, I will blow the air horns once, then I will move whatever is in my way..... :drive:

I'm a city boy, Chris. How is a moose bumper different from a Cow Catcher or a Prius Pusher? :drive:

Inquiring minds want to know ...... :coffee:

Ed, I just gave a donation to Give Kids The World Village in memory of Arnold (grumpy Aggie)

Gloria,

We will be remembering Arnold in our Monday evening get-together. And you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your generosity.

Bama Ed

PS - Next time I see you I want you to tell me about Arnold being on the Texas A&M baseball team in the 1960s. I'm a college baseball (Alabama, of course) guy.

Work is crazy busy, but perhaps its just the lead up to vacation making it seem that way.

I diverted today from getting camper ready to running generators for our house and my parents. Got all gas cans filled just in case this coming storm causes power outage. I got neighbors on board to help my parents in the event this should happen.

Looks like the timing of arrival is backed up pretty much so I might get out just ahead of it unless we choose to delay. If this is coming in major strong and still projected to be hurricane by time it reaches us here I might delay to ride it out to keep folks here safe. That'll be a Friday decision. I intend to finish camper prep tomorrow after work and get grocery shopping done.

Got my clothes together. I only have one mickey mouse shirt, so can't compete.

We made it to Manchester KOA. Quit work at 3pm and were on the road by 310. We were cruising along making great time until 15 miles to go (of the 400). It seems they decided to close the East bound lanes of I-24 for construction. It took an hour to go 2 miles and get off the highway. Another 30 minutes to go the last 15 miles on back roads. We arrived about 1015pm.
Heading to bed now. Going to try hitting the road by 7am (Central) in the morning.

Safe travels. That is a bummer, road construction. Have a fun and safe drive through Atlanta.

I was going to say, wait there is more. You get atlanta today. Hopefully it won’t be too bad. 11 am on Wednesday. We definitely have picked up traffic but still lots of people working from home.

@tiggerdad and others in path of the storm, Be Safe and take it easy. Delaying if you need to and taking care of home front sound like good good idea. Disney will still be here when you arrive.

Yesterday was an AK day, and Hot. Temps were in the 90's. We took care of all the AK thing Mom wanted to do and left at 2:30-3:00. Got back to the camper and took a nap then did some work. Today may be MK day. Waiting for Mom's camper rental to get here, she will be in 1117 right next door. Working until then and will then decide if we go to MK or not.

DS1, DDiL, and DS2 arrive tonight.

Here are a few pictures I have so far.

This was our overnight site at Lake Griffin. It was nice, but very sandy.I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. All the sites in area we were in had the fencing around them. The area we were in did not have a sewer connection, but there was a dump station at the park. I think there are site that do have in other loops.

While there are no full parades, there are some mini parades. Here's the Pixar one from HS.

That was all of it, two cars and some characters walking. While it may not be much, there was little girl watching the parade, waving at all the characters, jumping up and down, and getting all excited over the characters waving at her. I think she really enjoyed it and that's the important thing.

Here one from AK. The Discovery Island Drummers.

Anyway, time to get back to work till Mom's Camper gets here.

Good pictures, Dave.

I see you have a hybrid camper. I know I'll see it in a few days but can you tell me if you have just the one front fold out that's in the pic or do you have others (back, other side)?

Ed

I have on in the front and one in the back. The one in the back is out, but you just can't see it in the pic. We usually sleep in the front and the back is used for storage when not being used as a bed. Currently right now, that is empty totes, and things to go in Mom's camper when it get here.

Just stopped for fuel (1st and only fuel stop). 745 miles and I had 1/2 a tank on the main. We are 60 miles fromn the FL border. We left Manchester, TN at 6:58 CDT. Made it to ATL about 1030EDT and flew right through. I never slowed below 60 and was doing 65-70 most of the way. I was shocked. GPS says we should hit LLSP about 5:10, but I'm sure we will have 1 ore potty stop, so I'm guessing 5:30-6pm.

I can't wait!

Safe travels to those on the way and those soon to be! I have a question about our current menu... Are we set or do we need some other things? Plasticware, cups, plates? Or has Bama Ed got those? Probably need to bring a chair, too I am guessing.. Let me know. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
