RENDEZVOUS AT THE FORT - The Fort Wilderness DISMeet Trip Report October 2020

I checked Google Maps for the traffic impact the last two mornings at the time I'll be driving through Atlanta on Friday and it didn't look bad at all (other than the north side of I285 around the Perimeter). I think, Jim, that more folks are working from home and not commuting for the morning/midday/evening drive times. At least that's my theory. If I get clean sailing coming in from the west on I20 headed to I75 south then I'll be happy.

Safe travels to those on the way and those soon to be! I have a question about our current menu... Are we set or do we need some other things? Plasticware, cups, plates? Or has Bama Ed got those? Probably need to bring a chair, too I am guessing.. Let me know. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

bug, as best I recall I'm tag-teaming with tiggerdad to provide buns for burgers and dogs (however many we end up making), condiments (mayo, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper), and something for dessert. We'll certainly need plates and cutlery.

Ed

PS - I will likely byob

I can bring cups, plates, plastic cutlery. Final packing is this Sunday, so if I get a final number I can estimate how much to bring?

I'm keeping the chart in post #1 up to date as I get info and the head count total (HC) shows about 35 at the most but I'm not sure who will turn up. Some posters I've not heard from and wonder if they're still coming - but I hope they still are.

PS - and yes bring your chair over on Monday. At our past DISMeets we sit around and talk while we eat. I plan to make a few welcoming remarks and will keep them as brief as possible.

I'm enjoying the travel/traffic reports. I thought I might do mine but it might be boring and kinda short. On the other hand the trailer for the golf cart is a loaner and therefore an unknown. Also, Thunder Road (I-4) can also be an experience. The most interesting will be how I'm going to get the trailer spotted into the site. I have a receiver hitch on the golf cart which I can use to spot the trailer but getting the coach in as well as the trailer might provide it's own entertainment.

Last time he made welcoming remarks, well yoda was just a baby.....:yoda:

Well, time to pack the trailer up, half a day tomorrow, then hitch up get some sleep and time to roll.

PS - We love you Ed.

Today we did not work. My plans fit today went like this and for various reasons changed. First plan was to go to HS today, nope. Next plan was to go hiking, nope. Third plan, lounge at the fort, go for a run, make pancakes and bacon for brunch, go to Publix, sit outside, change Mallory’s bandage, go have dinner at Joe’s, mostly nope. What did happen laid in bed, Mallory was beat so no chirping out of her. While I was awake since 7, did not get out of bed till almost noon (I do puzzles on my iPad). finally got up but not making food. Mallory’s bandage was a complete mess. So bert started the pasta salad for dinner. Then changed Mallory’s bandage. Next fun was watching Benita come in. All of us went to help. It took about an hour but they are here. Then Publix, now hanging out making dinner to go to Joe’s.

it’s overcast and hot but I am at the fort and did not work. Have to work tomorrow and run since I was a slug today.

Hey! We made it to Lake Louisa! Third time was a charm. Sitting here in site 9.

We made great time today. 1 stop for fuel and grabbed lunch, then back on the road.

988 miles since we left. 111.7 gallons of fuel.

Don (Stratman50th) had offered to meet us here, but I wasn't sure how late we would be in. We may take a run over to WDW property and scope out the route tonight without the trailer on. Then up in the morning and head to the Fort. We are scheduled to pick up our cart at 11. Hopefully our site is ready before that or I'll be dropping the trailer in the overflow lot to go get the golf cart.

I'll be in #1 on Friday night, Jim, right next to the comfort station. Also stayed twice in #15 on that loop. Walk out on the boardwalk behind the comfort station on the right hand side. Nice little pier out there.

Chairs for sure as I only carry the 4 for us though ill have the traditional cooler seat available as well.

I'll provide hamburger meat, seasoning, hot dogs and cooking of those items. Ill also provide antics free of charge.

Latest track further west. Looking good for us. Even better is they cancelled high school football game. At best I can get out of here now around 11:30am. Figure about 10.5 hours to Lake Louisa and they're an hour ahead so arrive around 11pm. I gotta touch base with them and see if this will be too late. If so then I'll delay and just drive through the night and hit FW first thing in morning hyped up on Mountain Dew.

Today I installed my safety chains. Comr to find out in a lot of states goose neck hookups require the safety chains where standard 5th wheel does not. The Anderson hitch is considered a goose neck so whatever. No more than it costs its not bad.

Half day of clinic tomorrow then vacation starts.

Just in case the storm headed our way, I was checking out campsites.

Can't go west, the storms headed that way. Can't go north, it's supposed to curve back that way too. Started looking east...Mississippi wouldn't be far enough. Alabama...Meahar's full, GSP still closed. Fl State Parks around the line are either full or closed.

So then I had to check. There is a tent spot available. Not sure I can get in there. Also not sure Disney would appreciate (or allow) the 2 dogs and a pig I'd need to bring with me. so still going to have to wait til February.

So you're coming to LLSP same night as me (although in late)?

Call the LLSP Ranger Station/Campground checkin building at 352-394-3969 and ask for the gate code after explaining you'll be a late arrival. They close at sundown. You have a one night reservation that's already been pre-paid with the deposit. Once in the gate, just drive straight for a long winding ways and the campsite loops will start appearing on your left (a trash dumpster is your first visible sign on that side). You stay straight and your site will come up on the right side.

I'll probably be asleep by then (or pounding down Red Bull at the picnic table of your campsite).

Race ya to the Fort in the morning! <jk - not so much> :rolleyes1
