RENDEZVOUS AT THE FORT - The Fort Wilderness DISMeet Trip Report October 2020

It might be blurry but thought this was cute in 900. I was trying to run and take pics. in the following pics i actually stopped running. Probably because i was to sweaty to get the phone working while running.

I went out for a run this morning. I took some pics. Will get the up later. I know it is Monday but all loops are open but not filled. Definitely spots available, not sure how long that will last. I checked out the new Tri Circle D ranch. it is beautiful, but i still wish i had my fitness trail to WL.

Thanks for the pics! Did you wear a mask running? I don’t when I run where I live because I don’t encounter too many people, so I’m not sure I can handle that!

I carry my mask with me but don't wear it when not at disney. I know the policy is you have to have your mask on when not on your site. I wore my mask on my chin and brought it up if i saw a person or cast member. I run early so it was not an issue. If I had to run the entire time with a mask would be tough. I would have to slow down, but i was not fast this morning. Plus i have to wear my contacts as my glasses completely fog with mask and running.

If it does look like a direct hit here I may have to delay my arrival till Sunday.
My concern is that is my leaving day. Not interested in pulling camper in the winds.

I gotta solution. Leave earlier, before the storm hits. This way you avoid having to drive in the storm and winds. And if your house is damaged you wont know until you get back home. If you know before you get here you will worry about it while your here and won't have as much fun. Kinda the same idea as "out of sight, out of mind" and "what you don't know won't hurt you".

Joking aside. Stay safe and hope you are able to still make it down here.

Today was our first park day and we did HS. It was just myself and Mom, DW is only going to do the parks a couple of times.

We decided to drive for most parks this trip. We left the site a little after 8:00 and got to HS at about 8:30. For some reason I have it listed as opening at 9:00, but it didn't open until 10:00 today so the parking booths were not open until 9:00. So we drove round for a bit and cam back just before 9:00 to get in the line. Got parked and in the park 9:30 or so.

They are doing RotR boarding groups twice a day, 10:00 and 2:00. We got group 24 at the 10:00. It was kind funny that just as we got our group, it was like a big group cheer as everyone else was getting their groups as well.

The crowds were light compared to normal times, even though I think HS was at current capacity today (and most days). The ride.wait times were about were you expect for normal. Big ticket rides over an hour, less popular ones 15-30 min.

Mom did ride RotR and loved it! She says she would ride it again.

All in all a great day. I can't wait for everyone else to get here and enjoy it. The mask requirements do take some getting used to if you are not used to wearing a mask.

Oh one more thing. Bring some mosquito repellent. I'm sitting outside the camper at the table and the big ones are out.

Moms are cool, Dave. I'm very lucky to have had several 3-generation WDW vacations with my parents and my kids there. Those are memories that can't be made elsewhere (no matter what the kid's or parents ages).

Oh and with regard to the skeleton/mask joke, you're a funny guy.

I hope to be showing up Saturday morning.

Totally agree. From Wednesday night to the next Wednesday night we will have 3 generations. My mom, myself, my sons. My oldest son and DDiL don't have any kids yet, but it is in their plans. When that happens we will have a 4 generation trip at the Fort.

BTW, we are at $900 for our donations to Give Kids the World. So if anyone who hasn't donated yet could do so before our Monday event on the 12th and help get us over $1,000 - then I will stop pestering.

It's for a tremendous cause. The link is at the bottom of post #1. Every little bit helps.

And thanks to all who have already contributed both DISMeet attendees and folks on the interwebz following along.

tiggerdad, this morning it looks like Delta is sliding to the West in the Gulf and won't make landfall in Louisiana until early Saturday morning. Let's hope that it keeps sliding and comes in even later.

I am going to post this from the computer then hopefully be able to go to my phone and insert the pics into this post.

Yesterday was a work day. I had a lot of meetings. Did manage to sit outside in the afternoon though. We had cooked brats on Sunday so we reheated them for dinner on Monday and did frozen veggies. then we took mallory to Tri Circle D ranch.

Mallory enjoyed looking at the horses. She was very engaged. We finished our walk and stopped by @himandher818 so mallory could get some pets. David was looking forward to meeting the rockstar. I am so glad she was able to come. It has been a tough year so i was not sure she would make it. Then @tigger92662 stopped by and we chatted. Then it was time to change mallory's bandage so off to the camper we went.

It is going to be super hot today, so we are a little concerned how our AC situation will go. I am hoping since the front AC never worked that good in the first place we might be ok with the auxiliary air and the back unit. I decided to sit outside this morning in case the rain and heat brings us in at lunch.

Our site has a lot of morning shade. I think in the evening it will be a lot worse

@Teamubr and @PaHunter yesterday i watched another 5th wheel struggle to park in our loop. Now I know you guys are PROFESSIONALS at this but watch out you might have some fun.

Thanks everybody for the updates and pics. The TCD looks gorgeous. I've seen day time pics, but those at night look great. I can't wait.

We head out this afternoon after work. We have reservations at the Manchester KOA between Nashville and Chattanooga, just before Mount Eagle on I-24, if people are familiar with that area. That's about 6 hours from here and is a good stopping point before it gets too late. Tomorrow will be a longer day (10 hours or so) to get down to Lake Louisa SP to spend the night before we arrive at the Fort Thursday morning. If we make it in to LLSP early enough, we may head over to the Fort to say hi. It depends how we feel and how late we get in.

Chris is pretty good and his big truck can turn a lot tighter than mine. He's also big enough that I don't think he would notice running over a sign post or electrical pole or even a Silverado. :lmao:

Hopefully we both get sites that aren't too bad. I can generally work the camper into most spots. It may take a few back and forths to move it around things, but we can get it there.
