Reminder, Watch your stuff

When we traveled with kids in strollers I would pack a bag with items that I wouldn't care too much about if it was taken and left it. We always took important stuff with us though.

I traveled with a broken tripod for years at Disney. It was still usable, but had a broken handle for cranking the camera up and down. I left it in the stroller throughout the day, and if it was stolen, no big deal. The silver lining when my daughter got too big for a stroller is that I finally got a nicer tripod (found a nice travel tripod that folded up smaller for somewhat easy carrying).

We left a variety of things in strollers through the years, but only things that wouldn't be a big deal if we lost.

Most likely they took the money and stashed the purse somewhere. It happened to me once at a grocery store, just my wallet and it was found thrown into a produce counter. Of course the money was gone but at least I got my ID cards back.
this happened to me recently at a Costco. Some guy (I saw him out of the corner of my eye, he was walking really fast) placed someone's wallet in my cart. I didn't see him do it but it wasn't there when I turned to grab a case of coke and it was there when I placed that case in my cart. At first I thought it was my wallet and I wondered how it got outside my purse. I gave the wallet to an employee who didn't seem concerned at all.
Sadly it can happen anywhere.

OP- sorry this happened to your mother! I was dancing with the CMs at All Star Sports and tossed my wallet to my niece to hold. Didn't think anything of it until I was on the bus heading to DTD. Looked at my niece and said, "Where's my wallet?" She had set it on the garbage can! Well, this would be one of the times that the bus did NOT stop at the other All Stars. Got to DTD, and we managed to call the resort, and they had my wallet, but couldn't tell me if everything was in it. I had to bring my passport down to pick it up, and everything was in it, thankfully. A few days later, one of the CMs that I'd danced with asked if I'd gotten my wallet back. :)
