Reminder, Watch your stuff

You must not be aware of Disney's new perk...DTWIBW or Disney's Take What Isn't Being Watched. It's a new perk for Disney, anything that doesn't have eyes on it Disney gets to claim as their own. If they can't get your money from DAH and DEMM, they will get it somewhere!

Just Kidding.

Very sad that this happened. I don't know what is wrong with some people! This does lead me to a question. I've always been with other adults to hold my stuff while I ride. With just me and DD this time, what do I do with my backpack while riding?

You can take it with you.

We had a basketball stolen out of a golf cart parked at the Wilderness pool. Hard lesson for the 9 year old that not everyone is as nice as he is.

My parents are visiting WDW for the first time in 20 years. They are having a good time, but this afternoon somebody swiped my mother's purse from the bathroom counter when she was turned around.

It obviously could have been prevented with a little more caution, and luckily she only lost $80 and her license, but just thought I'd remind everyone that the bad stuff can still happen in the Disney bubble
I second or third letting someone near your parents house know and have them watch the house. all the thief has to do is put id info internet and any one in the area of their house would know no one there

We were at MK and a family was lamenting that their camera had been stolen with all their vacation pictures on it. The husband had set it on the kiosk while getting a fp. He walked away and didn't get but a few feet away before he realized his mistake. He turned around, and the camera was gone.

I'm sorry to hear that happened but I'm not surprised. Thieves can be anywhere and WDW can present a lot of easy targets. Last summer, we discovered there are thieves who "work" our local amusement park, taking out a load of stolen phones, wallets, etc. that people leave in the bag drops and/or sitting around at the water rides. Because I am not a trusting person, lol, I always use a cross body bag and never take it off.

On a positive note, my DD was at the CR when she set her wristlet down and walked away from it. When she realized it was gone, we raced back to where she left it and it was gone. We went to the front desk and asked if it was found, and YES it was! Everything was still inside, including her license and cash.

We picked up RFID wallets, card holders, passport holders for our next trip.

Ugh, that's the worst.

I had something similar happen to me this past week at Universal, but much less expensive and much more comical! My friend and I were eating at the NBC sports grill. While she was in the bathroom I had my head turned watching the Blackhawks game on the tv, and someone swiped my cornbread from my plate! I was so sad :(

So sorry that happened to your parents. What goes around comes around, the thieves will get theirs!
I never take much into the parks, a gift card and drivers license for photo ID required to use my AP discount. I use a small cross body that never gets taken off. It's just large enough for my cell phone, point & shoot, and lip balm!

So sad. We also carry as little as possible, definitely not a purse with handles that needs to be carried around. As ugly as fanny packs look, they do the trick for sunglasses, a snack, tissue, etc. Now with the magic bands I don't even need a credit card or money!

Switch to a cross body bag. That way you can always keep it with you. We carried a very small backpack years ago and took it on every ride with no problems.

I just got back from a 11 day trip to WDW. I live in a high crime area so I'm used to being extra cautious in my daily life.

I always tour the park with a cross body bag and have recently installed two carabiners so that the zippers cannot be easily lowered by a "pick pocket". Also, I swing my bag to the front of my body when in a dense crowd (example- during and after fireworks) so that my bag can't be compromised.

This may seem paranoid - and you may be right - I have to think that even at my lovely WDW there could be people watching our every move to see if we have an expensive phone or a wallet full of cash and wait for a vulnerable moment.

One day during a parade at the MK I was making my way through the crowd to get to Main Street and I passed by many strollers with bags just left unattended. I was shocked at how trusting people are and then quickly chastised myself - appreciating that not everyone has a heightened sense of danger (as I do).

All of this to say, I'm so sorry that your Mom got her purse stolen! That really stinks!

I guess the lesson here is - keep on being cautious because an ounce of prevention goes a long way - even at our lovely WDW.

Our Video camera/ camera stolen off of a mears shuttle on our FIRST trip. ( prior to ME). Put it under my seat in the van. We were the third stop, and someone on one of the first stops swiped it when getting their luggage out of the back of the van ( we were in the back row of the van) That's was bold- they took it from right under my seat. Had my video camera and regular camera in it. So I literally had to pay $100 for Disneys disposables to last the entire week. Happens even at Disney.

Yikes that sucks!

When we traveled with kids in strollers I would pack a bag with items that I wouldn't care too much about if it was taken and left it. We always took important stuff with us though.

Ah, yes, the BGNN (Bad Guy National Network)... ;)

You laugh, but once in Disney this happened to us and the local affiliate of BGNN where we live in suburban MD got a call. They dispatched two guys dressed as cops to break into our home. LUCKILY, we had left our son at home by accident (we had only just realized it on day four of our trip....sounds careless, I know, but consider that we have three kids to herd around and then you understand) and that son went about booby-trapping the entire house, so that the BGNN members found themselves in zany and ridiculous predicaments upon entering! I mean, have you ever been smacked in the face with a can of paint?? Zonk!! All that and then something about an older next door neighbor who we thought was bad and then turned out to be good...or something...can't remember it all now. Been a long time.

But whatever - the BGNN is alive and well and totally a thing. And upon stealing your stuff the FIRST thing they do is go to your house, because that makes sense, criminally.

There are semi-professional stroller thieves at the Walt Disney World Resort. Brown, long hair tails and quick navigating skills. The squirrels! I love to sit outside of rides waiting for members of my party to return and just watch the squirrel thieves. I've seen them get into ziplock bags, pry open clamshell type containers, and dig through all of the stroller pouches and pockets for goodies. Then poof, they disappear and the stroller owners have no idea they've been robbed!
