I am new to the DIS Boards but not new to Disney.

This is the first time I have been planning a trip to Disney World for the Food and Wine Festival and unfortunately we may have to cancel or attend fewer events due to a medical issue.

We have attended this event in the past and it is awesome but due to a medical issue that may change our plans we were wanting a little help from some of the more experienced Dis-Fans. Long story short the medical issue is in its initial stages and may be resolved before our trip in October but if it is not we may have to cancel our plans altogether or limit our events.

What I was wondering was that we have already purchased tickets to the Not So Scary Halloween party which is listed as non-refundable ticket but is there are chance that due to a medical concerns that Disney would refund them if we are unable to travel?

I was going to ask the same questions about the Food and Wine festival events if there is a medical issue can the events be refunded if we are not cleared to travel? A lot of the events for the Festival are awesome to attend but because the tickets need to be purchase so far in advance and I am worried that we will miss out if we don't purchase them. Although our health is more important than anything else but if we are cleared to travel we may miss a lot of the events as tickets sell out very fast if we don't purchase them in advance.

My last question would be if we are cleared to travel I may not be able to drink alcohol on the trip, does the Food and Wine Event locations offer non-alcohol options at the events? IE If we attended a food and wine pairing from Italy for example.

Thanks for opinions in advance!

Yes, Disney does provide refunds if you explain your situation. Last year I received a full refund for party tickets due to my CM friend being sent out of state by Disney for an event. The CM who provided the refund advised me to have CM friend rebook when she knew her travel schedule.

A medical issue would also warrant a refund.

Disney MAY refund tickets for special events if there are unusual circumstances. The word MAY is important. They do not have to and they are more likely not to provide a refund. If you have already bought tickets, I would advise contacting them as soon as possible. The more time they have to resell the tickets the more likely they are to refund you.

I would never recommend buying a ticket when you believe there is a realistic chance you won't be able to attend because you are hoping on getting a refund

I am also going with gooyuk. but I will say this is Disney and if you call and tell them as soon as you know then I can see them working with you but I would not get too angry if they do not give you a refund after all you did buy something that say no refunds

Thank you all for your replies.

We will have to make some difficult decisions as the booking date gets closer for the Food and Wine Festival.

On the last part of my question does anyone know if there are non-alcohol options for the Food and Wine Events? I am pretty sure the price isn't going to change without alcohol.

As mentioned, explain what happened to disney and you MIGHT get a refund.. If it's medical, I think you'll be fine..

Also dont' forget any travel insurance to put in a claim for the fees you didn't get refunded. Even if not purchased oyu might have some via your homeowner, renters, sometime auto coverage. AMEX is known for having this when using their cards for vacation payment so don't forget to check your bank/credit card policy that you used to book.

That is an awesome idea!! Thanks Bryan I would have never thought of that. I will look into my policies on my card.

Thank you as well for your reply Texas.

We had to cancel our entire trip last October including MNSSHP tickets and I called and just explained that my husband had a work obligation and they refunded our money luckily. This was around August I believe.

I disagree. Disney has never been anything but accommodating with us in any number of different situations. In my opinion, they are much more likely to provide a refund than not. This is particularly true when it comes to cancellations for medical reasons.

Disney has an awesome reputation for accomodating guests. With that said, you cannot be sure that they will under every circumstance, so it is best that people know that they do not have to accomodate, and that they are prepared for a negative response.

In my opinion, what was best was to answer the OP's question, which was "...is there are chance that due to a medical concerns that Disney would refund them if we are unable to travel?"

The OP sounds like a rational and intelligent person, and would therefore, one assumes, be able to distinguish between the best guesses and anecdotal answers he/she asked for and an ironclad guarantee.

My experience has always been a positive one. It has been somebody backing out of the trip after tickets were purchased or a date change. If you call and explain the situation they will most likely be able to accommodate you. However, please keep in mind that their policy is that all sales are final and that tickets cannot be refunded or transferred. If you do not like the response you get, you can always call back and speak with somebody else. ;)

In answer to you second question, I attended the food event with Chef Amanda Freitag last year. When they were serving I did decline the wine and they brought me a canned soda. There was also water on the table. I thought I heArd you need to ask before they pour yours. I don't know what is available to other events but would think it is similar.

I believe at the kiosks during F&W if you are getting a mixed drink they can make them "virgin".
