Refillable Mugs

My boyfriend and I are debating the refillable mugs. Our first instinct is "yes! only $24 for us to both drink in the resort the whole week? Sweet!" (we're going for 8 days/7 nights). BUT, if we're planning on being out of the resort at teh parks every day, is it still a good value? What are your opinions? and are there drink stations set up, or do you have to go to a food court location every time? (we will be in POR) Thanks for any and all help!

I would just buy one. iMOP If you both do not drink that much at the resort. however if you both need coffee in the morn you will need 2. i am only buying 2 for our family of 7 I only drink water and dh only drinks coffee and we have the dining plan and are bringing drinks!

The only places to refill the mugs at PO are the two food courts.

I always buy them at the resorts we stay at and this past we used them so little!
If you drink alot of soda, you will love them for the morning and at night. But if you don't drink to much soda or coffee, you might find it to be wastefull.


I think I was so disapointed this time around because I already had that resorts mugs, maybe if they were a new set I would have just been excited for the souvenier.



they sure are fun to drink your coffee out of in the mornings on the way to work though!!!

We are going to WDW in September and we (DH and I) only get 1 refillable mug. We are going to be on the dining plan, so I think in the morning I'll get a bottle of water, use it for the parks later and split a drink in the morning with the refillable mug. I don't think it would be a good savings for us this trip because we are on the Dining Plan.

If you have a coffee in the morning and one soft drink during the day each day, in round numbers you'll spend $32. The mug is twelve bucks! They generally pay for themselves, and make great souveniers. We have a shelf in the family room with one from each resort we've stayed at over the years (9 and counting!!).

We got them our first time at the Poly and thought it was kind of a waste. We had to walk all the way from Tahiti to Captain Cook's. Not worth it. This time we stayed concierge so not even an issue. Personally, I wouldn't do it again.

And they're kind of pointless now, anyway, at least for soft drinks, at moderate and deluxe resorts, since there are free refrigerators in the rooms -- just stock them from the grocery and save yourself a lot of money.

We plan to spent time swimming each day at our resort...and I can see us having a drink for breakfast and at the end of the day (using our drink from CS breakfast as a water bottle to take to the parks). So, I think our refillable mugs will be a "deal" for our 7 night stay. We are staying at Pop Century...the frozen cokes I think will be really good pool-side each afternoon!

As other posters have mentioned, if you drink coffee and soft drinks it is a winner - 6 refills and you have paid for your mug. We used them daily for coffee in the morning, the afternoon breaks on the balcony, and in the evenings - luckily they have decaf! They make a great souvenir.

I disagree that the refillable mugs are pointless due to fridges. Well, it may be the case for some people but it certainly wasn't the case for me. I ate numerous meals at the CBR food court (and drank soda with those meals as well as afterwards), and also hung around the main pool a few times and had sodas while I was there. By contrast, I NEVER went to the food court from my room just because I was thirsty. In my room, I enjoyed the bottled water and soda in my fridge.

My answer to the OP's question is "Do the math." Figure sodas are $2 each. So if you will each drink 6 16 oz. sodas (actually a little less, or the soda will spurt out the top when you put on the lid) during your stay, you will break even. If each of you will drink more than 6 sodas at your resort's food court during your stay, then the mugs will save you money.

You can only refill them at the food court. We generally only eat one or two meals at the resort food court, but we enjoy getting a drink on the way out to the busses and sometimes a drink on the way back to the room in the evening. Because we have them, we use them, but I mostly just enjoy having the mugs as souvenirs of my different resort stays. Last September DH and I stayed at the Poly concierge so we did not purchase mugs as we could get drinks from the concierge lounge. That was fine while we were there, but once I was home, I really missed having a Poly mug in my Disney mug collection, LOL!

I think this depends on your personal habits and your proximity to the refills. We stayed at Pop last time (on the dining plan) and bought 1 mug for the two of us. Our room was a 2 min walk to the food court so it was in no way an inconvenience for us. We would go in the morning and have apple juice with breakfast, have a beverage in the afternoon as we relaxed before going out to a TS dinner, and always grab some in the evenings when we came back and went to the pool or relaxed in the room. If you drink coffee, soda, apple juice, frozen cokes (at least at Pop) and my personal fav brewed (not any of that instant soda type) iced tea, than it can really pay for itself. This next trip, with dining again, we plan to get 2 mugs (that way I can have my unsweet tea and he can have apple juice or something else!)

I did the mugs while I was there last. And yes. they do have sweet tea. THey also have Icee's and hot cchocolate! The mugs are a deal!!!

They have iced tea, not sweet tea, at the refill stations. (There is a difference!)

If you will have a car, run out to an offsite convenience store or grocery and buy the drinks YOU like. You will have them in your room, they will be cheaper and more convenient. You can also pick up some snacks while you are out.

If you don't have a car, Bicker has already mentioned purchasing drinks from the resort store.

The mugs are a deal and you will get your monies worth. My biggest problem is lugging them around. We are a party of 5 and I got 4 mugs last time. It was a bit inconvenient carrying those big things to the place and then having to return them to the room so as not to have to lug them through the parks, kwim? Then when we'd return someone would have to run to the room to pick them up again to refill. I'm sure I'll still use them this next trip as I already have them, but they are not as convenient as a cup you can just toss in the trash when you're finished.

Since the OP is staying at POR - when we were there in Oct, they didnt have sweet tea, and they didnt have the frozen drink, only coke products, and coffee (or hot water)...

For us the walk was too far, so we didnt purchase one - on our first stay at the Polynesian I bought 2 for the 3 of us, and we filled it 3 or 4 times a day, so it was worth it... every time we'd go to the pool we'd take our mugs, and fill them... one was strictly for the smelly coffee btw!! lol

now for POR, we didnt go to the main pool, but the quiet pool, so I figured it was too inconvenient for us, for my dad however, since he didnt go to the parks, he did enjoy the mug!!

I would get the mugs. Both times we stayed on disney property we bought mugs. We were at the parks every day but they are still a good deal.
