Just got caught up on this thread! I think practicing multiple times at home *should* work. I did it the days leading up to my trip and got BG 4. I think you should do it to the point where you're familiar with what will pop up and when. My whole family of five was trying to get a BG and I got it--I don't think it's a coincidence that I'm the one who practiced the most.

If you do get a boarding group, how long are people typically waiting once they join the physical queue at the attraction?

if it's operating properly from the moment you enter the queue to when you exit it should be less 30 minutes

Unpopular opinion: They should've kept with the post-opening idea to make this attraction standby only. Let people who want to spend their entire day waiting in line (socially distanced) do so, would also weed out guests who have ridden before and give new riders more of a chance. The 20 second allocation of BGs doesn't actually seem that fair.

1) It's too unreliable to have a standby

2)The line would have been way too long for them to keep it contained. During CM previews they were sending people through backstage areas because it was so long. That's not something they could do for the public. And I believe the wait time was over 200 minutes during CM previews.

I agree with @osufeth24
This attraction is not ready for standby, especially under the current conditions. No easy way to come in and out for potty breaks, water breaks, without walking next to a lot of people in line. Also mask enforcement would be hard with that many people in line

I disagree with standby, but agree with the BG system as it currently is being unfair to rookies. I'd have had no idea what we're in for if I wasn't a disboards member. I think when you reserve your park for the day you should get a ressie for a BG at the same time. First come, first served or maybe have a date it opens up. And if they stop doing park reservations, then something similar online ahead of time to make it more equitable like dining ressies and FP+. Then at least you know what you're in for and don't have to be killing yourself to get to the park for rope drop.

That didn't stop Universal from having hours-long lines for Hagrid's that stretched to the entrance of the park :confused3 If people are willing to wait, let them wait. This lottery-style assignment is doing more to hurt guest satisfaction/loyalty than necessary. If they're going to keep it, start tracking MDE accounts and keep them from joining a BG more than once a week to keep it fair. Believe it or not there are better ways - Disney hasn't found the holy grail of guest management, there's room for improvement :rolleyes2 ETA: Post above mine is a great example (thank you @koquinn)

all of these are valid arguments and have been discussed since day one of RotR opening. The truth is that Disney doesn't want a crowd of people in line for hours at a time with no end in site, it creates a mob mentality. Rookies will get in line for standby not knowing how unreliable the attraction is, expecting to get on in a couple of hours, maybe, then when they have been stuck for multiple hours they will go and complain and nothing can be done about it.
With this system you get a push notification on the app when you have a DHS reservation explaining how the VQ system works, additionally there's a spiel over speakers around the park starting an hour before park opening and being done every 15 minutes explaining what to do, additionally there are the Guest experience team members in key spots around the park ready to help.
Having people reserve ahead of time creates a booking for someone who might not show up, unless there is a consequence to no show this would be unfair for people there.

That would be an interesting way to handle it. Perhaps allow one guaranteed BG (per trip/week/however) coupled with a $10 per person no-show charge similar to ADR's.
and the continued disclaimer that reserving in advance does NOT guarantee a ride. It could work and Disney might actually make some money off of it from people that forget to cancel or just don't care

Ok, so I realize that when trying to get a BG we must be fast....I'm worried about the people showing up in my MDE planning party. I have 2 people from a past trip, my 4 people for this upcoming trip, 2 additional people for our trip next year and a cast member created a "person" named MNSSHP...??? How do I add my group of 4 "quickly"? I've tried deleting the past 2, but it said I couldn't. What happens if I delete the future 2 from my list? These 2 people don't have a Disney account. Nor do the 2 from the past.....

Change their names on MDE to start with A, the order of your group comes in alphabetical order, that way the ones going will be in top and you can quickly add them. The other thing you can do is call I.T. and have the people that are not going removed

That was also precovid, right now with the social distancing, they don't have the room for it

Even Hagrids has gone to VQ

Another thing that newcomers might not know is that the number of spots in any given day is not the total capacity o the ride itself (pre or post covid) it's how the attraction did the previous day coupled with how the startup checks did that morning. So it's not a set number everyday

What they really need to do is just get this ride working better. Have they been working on it after park close at all?
