Razors in Carryon?

Can anyone tell me if I'll be okay taking a regular razor (Mach 3 Turbo) or an electric razor in a carryon? Will airport security take it out and look it over?

Thanks! ;)

I've flown twice in the last month and a half. DH packed his Mach 3 in his carryon both times, no one said anything. The "banned list" at the airport specifically said straight razors.

I guess this question begs another question. Why do you need a razor in the cabin?

I have not been able to carry a regular razor in my carryon. Had to throw it out. Same goes for tweezers.

To shave in the bathroom. Can't expect Cali-D to get up early AND get ready! ;)

Actually, I just wanted to have it with me in the event that the checked luggage gets lost. A smooth faced Cali-D is a nice looking Cali-D.

Shaving gel: I'd feel much better having a compressed can in the cabin than in the luggage compartment. I'd assume it would be much better for it to be in the cabin that down in the luggage compartmet, too.

You will probably be okay with an electric razor, but I wouldn't pack any other kind in a carry-on. Security took away my cuticle clippers from my manicure set and they almost took my nail file too!

Cali,
LOL, thanks for the answer, I was curious. Your shaving gel will be fine in checked luggage btw, it is pressurized just like the cabin. Remember people ship their pets down there too.

Taking Gail's advice earlier, I checked on what was acceptable on my airline's website. You might want to do the same.

USAir's site specifically says that you can take a safety razor in your carry on.

Gail, another answer to your question, I pack light and try to avoid checking baggage if I can. Less hassle at the airport.

Directly from USAirway's website:

"Permitted Carry-On Items"

Per the Transportation Security Administration, the following items are permitted through the security checkpoint once the item has been properly inspected. This list is not all-inclusive. If you have questions regarding whether an item is permitted, contact US Airways Reservations at 1-866-886-2277.

Bowling Balls
Cameras and Camcorders
Eyelash Curlers
Fishing Poles
Horse Shoes
Knitting Needles
Laptops and Notebook Computers
Nail Clippers and Nail Files
Needles and Syringes (with proper documentation)
Parachutes without the cartridge
Personal Audible Alarms
Restraining Devices
Safety Razors, including Disposable Razors
Toothpicks
Tweezers
Umbrellas
Walking Canes "

I have to wonder why anyone would need a "restraining device" on an airplane!

Lucy,
got ya, I prefer to curb my luggage as I don't want to be a "pack mule", luckily I have yet to encounter a hassle at baggage pick up, but, have been held up in line by many who insist on taking everything they own through the scanners as carry on.
Since I don't pack light, your method would never work for me.

Cali-D doesn't pack light, but one time he did successfully carry-on all of his luggage (3 bags)! Ooh, that US Airways flight attendent wasn't happy with me! He tried to tell me I had to check one of the bags, by the end of the conversation, he just told me to go to my seat. LOL (Cali-D just didn't want to wait at baggage claim after midnight when he could just head straight home after getting off the plane - and that was the one and only time he has ever carried on 3 pieces). (what was Cali-D thinking when he tried to carry on all that luggage? I think he needed slapped across the face!)

LOL!!!You are TOO FUNNY!! Cali-D!!
I have to agree with Gail, I check in most of my luggage, I have only one carry-on that fits under the seat, mainly with my bathing suit, flip flops, sunscreen and something to read, that way I can survive if the rest of my luggage is lost. LOL! I was also wondering about the shaving gel. I didn't take any on my last trip and I wound up having to go to the Florida Mall looking for some. My toiletries are in my checked bag, e.g. shaving razors.
I love these boards, they answer my questions before I ask! Thanks everyone!;)
