Random thoughts about distancing on buses and using ride share apps

I know a lot of details are just coming in about new procedures, but I just had an odd thought about Disney busing. I assume they will be asking guests to social distance on the bus, so that will probably be a time consuming process for them to assign proper seating. Also if you are going from a park to a hotel, they must have to ask for your room key or need to swipe your magic band to verify you are staying there. That is the only way to avoid the foot traffic through resorts unless you have an existing dining reservation. I think it may end up being a very long process- especially if a bus needs to load an ECV - and it might be much quicker to use a ride share app. Has anyone seen anything on Minnie Vans? I wasn't sure if they announced they are running and I just couldn't find anything on it. -Wondering if I should factor that into my budget as well.

Along a similar train of thought: would a mobile order be considered a dining reservation? If so, that wouldn't really restrict traffic through those resorts. I can see this being a loophole for those going to Animal Kingdom Lodge to see the safari or those wanting to just look around another resort, but :confused3

LadyJane, on another thread, said that the Minnie Vans would Not be running. I don't know if Disney will allow uber or lyft either? Haven't heard about that yet. I also think the transportation will be a nightmare for a while due to Disney trying to keep social distancing working. I can't imagine how that works on a bus, when we are usually packed in like cigars. I, for one, won't be coming back to WDW until all restrictions are removed. Too much of a bother and too much not offered for the amount of money charged.

I think my main concern would be if I'd already missed a few busses due to capacity and then have someone on an ECV roll up and I'd miss another buss because of that.

It actually won't be too hard to enforce social distancing... simply tape off seats and/or mark them for guests of a single party. And I'm assuming no standing.

It is going to be years not months until that is the case. I can see certain restrictions sticking.

I also think pricing could actually be increased to offset lower crowds and some would actually view this as a positive thing.

I highly doubt it will be years before we are back to normal. Some things may change. I watched a vlogger show a new scanner that was at DS, I believe. That would be a fantastic change for the better, no going through guests' bags anymore. Social distancing will go back to normal along with capacity levels. Though, wouldn't it be nice to have smaller crowds.

Also, they are working on the vaccine and effective treatments. Once the vaccine is widely available we'll see more fans returning to Disney.

No. Just limit the number of people on each bus. Rely on the passengers to proactively socially distance themselves.

Why would they not? They'll allow taxis and car services. MinnieVans are on hold for the safety of the Cast Members.

Yep, this is going to be one of the many, very interesting things to experience for those of us going during the first three-to-six months.

The buses at the end of a day are crazy. Now add less capacity... And distancing in the line...

Yikes!

*IF* a vaccine becomes widely available. I'm amazed at the amount of people who think a vaccine is a foregone conclusion.

You haven't heard of the trials?????? There have been positive results of antibodies being produced similar to those in people that have contracted the virus and recovered. When there is a vaccine, why wouldn't it become widely available? People make the conclusion because there are positive trials out there.

Yes, I've heard of the trials. Early positive results do not equate to a definite solution. There are also reports that antibodies are only lasting a couple of months. If that is true, any vaccine is basically worthless.

I truly hope they do develop a reliable, working vaccine that doesn't have debilitating side effects, especially ones that don't show up until years down the road.

Yes exactly this. I have read that antibodies don’t equal immunity for this. I don’t think a reliable vaccine will be out soon, if ever. I also hope I am wrong

I hope you're wrong too. We need a vaccine. What a depressing world we will live in if the spectre of death hangs over us forever.

Well, the spectre of death hangs over us every day as it is. Accidents & cancer immediately come to mind.

I trust Dr. Fauci. He's said that he's reasonably confident that a vaccine will be developed.

Really?
Wouldn't you say the current times are creating more anxiety than normal?

I know for my friends and me, that once this whole pandemic is a bad memory, life will feel more normal. I don't worry about accidents and sickness the way Covid concerns me.
