Ralph Lauren Dress

On the topic of Michelle. I didn't like the dress or hairstyle but I also commend her for not going all out and trying to fade into the background. This wasn't their moment and in my opinion tried to not be shiny and noticeable

I agree with you on this. Michelle generally picks very nice attire for all occasions. I believe this particular dress and hair were picked on purpose as to NOT appear to be trying to outshine where the attention was yesterday. Very wise choice on her part, but I didn't care for it.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately someone read it and saw a picture online online so whether it's true or not no longer matters.
That coat in your first link... Omg. I love vintage coats
Sorry if I came across a little rough but the whole fake news thing really upsets me. I know it was just a coat but there were post after post on my Facebook feed talking about how Mrs. trump was so like Jackie that she even wore the same color. Looking at the coat Jackie wore, there were very few similarities.

I honestly don't know who starts these false stories. In my opinion there is truth and there are lies and it should matter. Facebook needs to get its act together put something out there where we can help clean up all of the lies being spread online.

In this case people keep referencing an old black and white photo of Jackie that I suspect someone added color to make it appear blue. All of the news photos I saw back then were in black and white. Who knows why someone decided to turn a camel colored coat blue.

My first comment yesterday after seeing Melania's blue outfit was that it looked inspired by Jackie O. I had no idea what Jackie O wore to her husband's inauguration day, I had not read a single report online, I had not heard a single news comment on the topic.

It sounds like some others perhaps had a similar reaction and just made a connection that wasn't there.

I personally like Melania ball gown. I don't see what's wrong with it?

I'm far from a style expert. I usually on the wrong side of any style discussion. ;) But I just didn't like the flounce down the front.

You didnt come off as rough at all. I totally agree with you that it should matter whether something is actually true.

I think everyone looked great. I'll add the stand outs for me were Melania and Ivanka. Also Barron. He is so handsome.

I think the very long gloves probably added to the reaction she was going for a Jackie O kind of outfit.

I like the color of the Ralph Lauren but the cut is odd and not really flattering. I loved ivanka's inaugural ball gown. None of the rest would be my choice. The dresses from the dinner Thursday night were horrible except for tiffany's. Mrs pence looked especially frumpy in that lacey number.

And kelkyanne, just no.

Michelle's dress was nice and appropriate. I also didn't like her hair but I'm not a fan of a center part or pulled back in a bun.

Ivanka's gown last night was STUNNING. So was Tiffany's.

I guess Melania helped to design her dress - I thought she looked nice.

Someone else said it earlier and I'll agree: Ivanka is joining the ranks of Kate Middleton in style for me!

Loved everything about Melania's blue ensemble this morning, but I think the gown tonight is a miss. My 16 year old daughter loved it though.

I wonder if Kelly Ann lost a bet or something. ;)
About Kelly Ann...
That was one of the oddest fashion choices I've every seen. But, maybe she carefully chose it so she'd be sure to get TV time, sort of a strategic what not to wear.

I have seen alot of comments that say the style is reminiscent of Jackie O's and I agree. I don't know if actual news articles stated the color was the same, or just people commenting. I take any comments on the internet with a grain of salt (except for here of course lol) and don't consider it "news", fake or otherwise.

I liked Melania's dress for the ball, but it seemed kind of simple for a ball. I thought it was just a nice dress, nothing spectacular. She looks good in white though, its a great color for her.
Looking back at other FLOTUS choices I see that some do go with a more understated ball gown. I loved Ivanka's, to me that is what a ball gown is.

Is Ivanna wearing a denim vest under her suit that she is wearing under the blue monstrosity? That's.....ummm.......yeah.
Yes, she is! I didn't see any pics of her or Marla at the balls last night. Guess they kept the first two wives out of sight. Ivana as first lady would have been a whole different set of fashion comments yesterday, lol. But, she was many mistresses, I mean moons, ago.

It was fine but nothing special. It looked like something she'd wear to any old gala in NYC not as first lady to the inaugural balls. Ivanka wore something more befitting the first lady.

It was a nice gown & looked lovely on her. But, for me personally, it didn't have that "wow" effect & "moment" that her powder blue Ralph Lauren suit had. As the First Lady, her dress will become part of the presidential historical archives, & I just wonder how it will stand up to some of our other First Ladies' Inaugural Ball Gowns.

I also think she was a bit upstaged by Ivanka, & few of the commentators last night thought so as well - even saying that her gown looked more "First Lady" than Melania's gown. I absolutely LOVED Ivanka's gown! She looked stunning.

However, one reporter who supposedly has "intimate" knowledge of the Trumps said the family was creating a "tableau" on stage in the colors & designs of the dresses w/ Melania intended to be the centerpiece. If I remember correctly, this reporter said Jackie Kennedy would do similarly. (That said, the effect of whatever they were trying to do wasn't really seen due to Mrs. Pence's royal blue gown - not that she didn't look good, but the color didn't really mix in w/ the colors that the Trump women were wearing.)

And, regarding Jackie Kennedy, I don't think I ever said that her Inaugural Ceremony suit was also blue like Melania's. What I was saying that, for me, the style of Melania's ensemble (the style & cut of the suit & coat, the shoes, the gloves, her hair) made me think of Jackie.

While I wasn't particularly fond of Michelle's dress (but thought it looked good on her), I think the matching coat made the ensemble look really nice. And I also thought she was purposefully trying not to outdo the ones who would be "front & center".

I don't get the similarities at all other than they both wore coats. One wore a fitted baby blue coat fitted around her top, the othe wore a loose fitting camel colored coat with fur trim and huge buttons. Jackie wore her hair down with a hat, Mrs. Trump wore her hair up, no hat. From what we know their backgrounds could not be more different.:confused3

Totally agree. I thought Ivanka's gown was gorgeous, more like what I would expect for an inaugural gown.

I think Melania was probably going for more of an understated elegance. But it didn't work for me.

I think you're making the mistake of comparing inaugural suit to inaugural suit. I think Melania's was just more of a nod to Jackie, reminiscent of her style. Definitely not a close copy.

Melanie Trump was a vision in her powder blue Ralph Lauren ensemble...grace and beauty. The rest of the family was spot on...perfect and lovely.

Kellyanne was striking in her Gucci Coat. Out there a bit? Maybe, but demure doesn't suit her....strong and bold for sure! I loved the red, white and blue!
