I personally like Melania ball gown. I don't see what's wrong with it?
It was a nice gown & looked lovely on her. But, for me personally, it didn't have that "wow" effect & "moment" that her powder blue Ralph Lauren suit had. As the First Lady, her dress will become part of the presidential historical archives, & I just wonder how it will stand up to some of our other First Ladies' Inaugural Ball Gowns.
I also think she was a bit upstaged by Ivanka, & few of the commentators last night thought so as well - even saying that her gown looked more "First Lady" than Melania's gown. I absolutely LOVED Ivanka's gown! She looked stunning.
However, one reporter who supposedly has "intimate" knowledge of the Trumps said the family was creating a "tableau" on stage in the colors & designs of the dresses w/ Melania intended to be the centerpiece. If I remember correctly, this reporter said Jackie Kennedy would do similarly. (That said, the effect of whatever they were trying to do wasn't really seen due to Mrs. Pence's royal blue gown - not that she didn't look good, but the color didn't really mix in w/ the colors that the Trump women were wearing.)
And, regarding Jackie Kennedy, I don't think I ever said that her Inaugural Ceremony suit was also blue like Melania's. What I was saying that, for me, the style of Melania's ensemble (the style & cut of the suit & coat, the shoes, the gloves, her hair) made me think of Jackie.
While I wasn't particularly fond of Michelle's dress (but thought it looked good on her), I think the matching coat made the ensemble look really nice. And I also thought she was purposefully trying not to outdo the ones who would be "front & center".
