Ralph Lauren Dress

I think you're making the mistake of comparing inaugural suit to inaugural suit. I think Melania's was just more of a nod to Jackie, reminiscent of her style. Definitely not a close copy.
I am obviously missing something here. Maybe I should ask what specifically about Mrs trump reminded you of Jackie. The color, style of coat and hair were extremely different.

And, for what is worth, my initial comment was a reply to a poster who said the blue color was reminiscent of the color Jackie wore. That could not be farther from the truth.

The monochromatic color scheme, the gloves, the cut of the dress with a short jacket (although definitely an updated style of jacket).

As I said, not the same, more of a nod to Jackie.

The color (Jackie Kennedy wore pastels & wore more monochromatic colors than she did prints) & the style (the 3-quarter sleeves, the gloves, the matching pumps, the cut of the suit) were reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy.

Melanie's Inaugural Day "look" was an updated, modern take on a vintage style & made some people think of Jackie O. It was the "styling" more than an actual copy.

No, the color did not match what Jackie wore on JFK's Inaugural Day. But, while the coats (& dresses) were a different color, both coats came up around the neck - even though Jackie's coat was black around the neck while the rest of the coat was tan. Both coats were 3-quarter sleeves, & they both wore similarly styled gloves.

Yesterday, my FB feed was filled w/ "Ooh, she looks like Jackie O!" comments, & there are tons of different articles from all kinds of different sources comparing the two. Last night, I don't think a reporter could talk about the blue Ralph Lauren suit w/o saying something about Jackie Kennedy.

It's okay if you weren't reminded of Jackie, but lots of other people were.

EDITED TO ADD - Of course, her hair wasn't going to look exactly like Jackie's hair. Melanie has long hair, while Jackie wore her hair in a shorter style. But, yesterday, for the Inaugural Day ceremonies, Melania wore her in an upswept bun which also was a nod back to a classic hairstyle.

Funny how people can see two images and see totally different things. Jackie's coat collar was a darker fur so I don't get monchromatic, the coat was definitely not short and the cut of the coat was not fitted. They both did wear gloves.

I give up. We will have to agree to disagree.

You're still talking about one specific outfit. I'm talking about her general style.

Honestly, I'm saying it reminded me of Jackie's style. I'm not sure why you care so much that it did.

For me she did remind me of Jackie but not necessarily on Inauguration Day. I think this is where the vague and the literal are meeting.

Here is Jackie with the monochromatic and gloves and big swept back hair. Very similar to what we saw yesterday. I think the jacket Melania wore was very structured and tailored which causes more similarity.

Yes, exactly!

I think where the disagreement is coming from is that you are comparing Jackie Kennedy's exact Inaugural Day ensemble to Melania Trump's exact Inaugural Day ensemble which is fine.

However, most of us are talking about Jackie Kennedy's overall "style" over the entire course of JFK's presidency. To many of us, Melanie's outfit made us think of Jackie Kennedy's "look". That's all.

If I were putting together an outfit to be reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy but in an updated fashion, I would put together something very similar to what Melania wore yesterday.

I agree with others who say her outfit was not anything like Jackie O's. It was more of a nod to that time period and I'm sure as an overall nod to the Kennedy dynasty and this family's hope to mirror it that Camelot kind of feeling.

I liked the blue outfit - but I didn't see the Jackie O similarity. It actually reminded me of a Barbie flight attendant outfit. Still - very pretty. And I admire her walking in those heels.

The only real similarities that I see between Melania and Jackie are three. 1. First Lady 2. Married to guys who habitually cheat 3. Trophy wives

Ivanka's ball gown was beautiful - but I felt it needed a bit more definition around her waist. Still - she is gorgeous, and her husband is a cutie.

Definitely not a look everyone can pull off. ;) Why are so many Americans prudish about nudity?

Most people aren't, it's just a funny, political thing that I won't get into here. Just saying that in the past, any FLOTUS who had posed nude would have been raked over the coals. Maybe we are making progress here? Anyone remember Vanessa Williams in the 80s? Man...that was bad for her.

Vanessa Williams was skewered and she just wanted be be Miss America. Michelle Obama was skewered for showing her arms too much throughout her first years as First Lady. Double standard?

Wasn't the Vanessa Williams thing something like 30 years ago?

And I never heard bad things about Michelle's arms. All I heard was how great they looked.
