I'll admit this right up front--I don't think I'm going to make it. But I am going to go a month at a time and try not to buy anything off of QVC this year. I buy lots of stuff, return most of it out of remorse (or because it doesn't fit or I don't like it) and spend too much money. I don't owe thousands of dollars, I don't even carry a balance on my credit cards, so it's not like I am out of control financially. I just would like to tweek this bad habit. So this is definitely budget related. Anyone else watch/buy too much? Maybe if someone else wanted to join with me we could keep each other accountable.... One thing I need to do is turn the channel off more often and read or walk or do something more productive. If I am alone in the house, I have it on almost like background noise to make me feel like I'm not by myself. Any takers?

The Q kills my budget all the time! I always have it on for background noise, too. My DH doesn't get that. I've thought about putting a parental block on that channel at times. Good luck with your resolution!

My sister no longer has any problem with QVC. They have banned her!

She consistently had a return rate higher than 50% (and they pay return shipping). They gave her a couple of warnings and will no longer allow her to make purchases.

This actually makes most of the family happy, as she no longer is able to buy weird gifts from QVC for us!

I used to buy from them about 20 yrs ago when DH was gone & I was lonely. I am glad I no longer have that problem. DH has been deployed about 11 months now, and I have not made one single purchase from them. I have not watched them in years.

I agree. Find another channel or some music. TLC or A&E's Hoarding shows should work nicely. ;)

Find why you watch them and change it. Are you lonely? Go out with friends.

They are also overpriced on a lot of their items.

They'll probably thank you for not shopping with them anymore.

A) go window shopping in the morning at the mall. Most malls have a walking program prior to stores opening. Take a few laps around the mall and you can't buy anything because the mall is closed. Take a buddy so you leave prior to opening.

B) Watch Hoarders. It'll make you not want to bring a single item into your home.

C) Most of it looks gawdy and awful. Just because they have "perfect model" with the "perfect lighting" does not make it that wonderful in person.

I buy most of my Dooney and Burke's from Q as they have easy pay. I use to order WAY to much but just quit cold turkey. Some of the jewelry did not look as good at home as they have them under those lights. I love HSN mainly because of HEIDI DAUS. But I do not abuse these shopping shows anymore and life around here is much more pleasant. Zappos is a GREAT shoe website and have been very pleased with them.:lovestruc

you can set up your favorites list on tv,and block certain channels from showing as you scan...block QVC!:thumbsup2 trust me, for myself,I blocked it from day one,and have never cared about it...... if y ou don't watch, you won't buy! (besides, from what I've seen, they are SO overpriced)

I like QVC. I don't order a lot but I do order. I've never had to do a return. If they have something I want/need & the price is right, I order it.

I agree with the other posters. I use to be just like you, listened because it filled the house with sound and bought because repeated exposure will convince you need anything.

*If you don't look, you will not know what you are missing. Slowly, you will get use to not looking and find something better for background sound.

*Watching Hoarders causes me to clean the house and take stuff to donate.

*It is all just stuff, spend your money on travel, not stuff. In the end memories make you happy, stuff will still just sit there.:thumbsup2

Good Luck.

I thought QVC banned people for returning too much.

we have a qvc outlet about hr from here at least once a month they the dooney and bourkes on sale for 40-70% off a friend just got one that was on air for $269 she got it for $80 plus tax when they start selling the disney ones that when ill buy one other then that i like my $20 purse from walmart

I have watched QVC and HSN but really don't find anything that's a deal. I hope you can disconnect from them. I can see how they can lure you in and be your best friend but don't fall for it. There are better deals on groupon, eversave, living social and savelology but even these sites are getting old. It's amazing how much you can save by not buying into all the stuff. Good luck.

Well, apparently you have to return more than I have, because they've never said anything.

However, just bringing this up with all of you has helped solidify my resolve and hopefully will help me drop this bad habit like a hot potato!

There is something about watching those programs that makes me want to buy whatever they're selling. I try to avoid them. However, just surfing the web, even looking at boards like this, I read about items I feel I must own.
When I spend a lot of time on the internet, I buy a lot of things I later regret. I'm going to try and not buy anything extra this month which may mean less time on the computer.

I live very close to QVC and I have an aquaintance who uses my kids, me and my house for "B roll" films that QVC uses in the corner of their on-air pitch. We've been in B-rolls for lunch totes, a popcorn maker, PB & J spoon, and a couple of others. I can tell you the stuff is just stuff. In most cases, it's the same stuff you'll find on a Walmart shelf but they glitz it up with the nice surroundings and add a little something extra, like a little accessory, to entice you. Recently I was watching Isaac Mizrahi and he was (trying to) selling his clothing line. He DID NOT EVEN KNOW THE NAME OF THE COLOR OF HIS OWN RIDING BOOT!!! He said, "I think they call this Luggage, or something." He acted like he didn't even care about the boot! The hostess said, "That's Cognac (or whatever the color really was but it wasn't "luggage")....OMG, didn't even know what he was selling!!!!

Also, I see one hostess in particular getting her nails done all the time and she told me they receive a "nail allowance" from QVC, LOL. It's all smoke and mirrors. Most of the guest hosts, the ones who act they work for the company who manufactures the product, are actors. Did you know that? They say they "work for" Dyson or Cuisinart or whomever, which is true but they were hired as actors to demonstrate the product. They're not dyed in the wool company people who eat, sleep, drink and love their product. They're pitchmen.
