Questions on digital scrapbooks...

1) Do you have to buy kits to do digital scrapbooks?

2) What do you do once you have completed a "book"? Do you have the options of either printing or putting it on CD?

3) For those who do both, how do you determine what set of photo's you want on digi and what you want on hard standard scrapbook? ie: Disney vacation photos on CD and my kids school photo's in standard.

1. No, there are lots of freebies out there. I mostly buy, though. I spend as much on digital stuff as I did on paper, if not more.

2. Shutterfly will print layouts in book format. I've also printed layouts at 8x8 or 6x6 and then put them in an album that is the correct size. I mostly save my layouts to CD as a space saver.

3. I print photos and put them in photo albums so that I have a hard copy of everything. I don't do any paper scrapping so I'm not much help in answering this question.

1. All of my pages come from free downloaded materials. I've never paid for a kit, but a lot of times I make my own embellishments if I don't have them (I'm a graphic designer)

2. I print my books from mypublisher.com mainly do it from them because I get coupons emailed to me from there (During the spring and fall they normally have a 50% off coupon) Also if you're a costco member, you get 20% off.
I also love the fact that the book is small and much easier to handle and look through than a standard scrapbook. Looks professional and clean cut.

3. I don't do both, so I can't help you there. I have all of my photos (and pages) on an external hard drive, backed up on another external hard drive (In case one fails)

I use www.StoriesFromTheHeart.com for my digital scrapbooking. I don't worry about buying kits because they have something called the Premier Studio which is basically a library of 300+ collections (and a collection consists of numerous background papers, embellishments and alphabets that all coordinate) of digital scrapbooking content...so I also don't worry about having to download and store all this scrapbook stuff on my hard drive...it's all available online through my publishing account so I can even work on it when I'm at someone else's house...anywhere I have access to the internet. Also through this site, I get them printed into hardcover books. There's various sizes to choose from 5x5 / 5x7 / 8x8 / 8x11 / 12x12. Did I mention that they archive everything for you, too (pictures, completed books, etc.) so I don't worry if something happens to my originals or if something happens to my computer hard drive. My memories are way too important to me and my family.

I used to do traditional scrapbooking, but it just took too long and I got tired of buying all the gadgets and supplies...not to mention expensive. I also can't carry around my traditional scrapbooks in my bag to show to people. I'm such a fan of digital scrapbooking and the hardcover books!

Thanks for the info ladies. I'd love to do digital but I still have tons of scrapbooking stuff so I'll have to rethink this.

Maybe I'll try making one digital to send to the in-laws for Christmas and see how that goes...I just might get hooked!
