Reservation modification surprise

A couple of weeks ago I booked a last minute quick stay for my son's birthday for this upcoming weekend. At first all I could get was a 1 BR at OKW, then I was able to switch it to a 1BR at SSR, and finally last night I snagged BRV, which is our fav for the holidays, so here's hoping they get that dang tree up! Since we're within the 30 days, I assumed that modifying and using less points would mean that the point difference would go into holding, but they surprisingly did not, they were just returned to my balance. Is that how it works if you don't change the dates of your stay, or was this some sort of happy accident?

Same thing happened to us last week (dropped a night from a reservation inside 30 days, pts did not go into holding). I don't know if it is / was happening because of the air travel issue that were ongoing or if somebody goofed......

The points should have gone into holding...yes maybe DVC adjusted things in the short term because of the flight disruptions. I wouldn't count on this happening again!

I know of a few people, myself included, who have had this happen.

I think it was done because of the air delays. Probably much easier to just make a temporary decision to turn it off vs so many calls asking for exceptions!

Possibly preferred view at SSR is a few more points than BRV. Standard view is definitely less.

SSR 1-bedroom preferred and standard are both less points than a 1-bedroom BR for this time of year.

I wonder if the OP maybe was able to get a BR studio vs 1-bedroom and preferred that because of the resort location even though it's a smaller room?

Sorry I must have left out that BRV is a studio, since it's only two nights we're fine cramming in the smaller room, and it saved us some points.

Just happened to me last night. Cancelled the first night off my VGC reservation this week and the points did not go into holding. Honestly was confused for a moment. Glad to see it has happened for others too.

I know the Kidani / Jambo glitch was fixed. Anybody know if the holding point glitch (if that is what it is) was as well? There was a modification I was going to make in the neighborhood of 50 pts but I was afraid to pull the trigger.

I don’t know but I may have a situation where I am willing to try for you …but wouldn’t be until the 13th since the check in date is Jan 13rh

Thanks. If you do have to make the change let us know what happens. I always keep my eye out for other rooms as we get closer to the trip, but I don’t want to potentially lose out on 50 pts by making a change.

.i have 3 trips already booked on that membership that if holding happens, I can ge them used!!

We ended up moving our OKW to a Kidani Savanna 1 BR, so more points. We won't change it again as Kidani is our favorite resort. If you do change yours, I'd still be interested if holding happened to the points or not, but it isn't necessary to test as we won't be tempted to change to a lesser point room now.

Just another data point, our wait list for a resort stay at Copper Creek in late December came through on Dec. 10, it used less points than the original one night booked at Poly. The points did not go into holding.

It seems weird because mine did when I did it. So, it’s hit or miss!
