Currently, I have 160 pts at BLT. Eventually, I plan to add-on another 100 pts...but not for another 3 years. I paid $101 per point. My questions are:

Can I just look around for the resort with the cheapest price per point in order to get the 100 points (not caring about what the second resort will be)?

If you bought add-on points at another resort, does that mean you are able to make 11 months advance reservation at either resort?

If you bought add-on points at another resort, why did you choose this other resort?

Where do you recommend and where did actually you buy the add-on points (DVC directly, Timeshare store, eBay)?

Thanks, from a newbie DVC owner!

I don't think it's a good idea to buy somewhere you wouldn't want to stay, so consider whether or not the resort is worth the low price to you.

You can only book at 11 months with points for that resort. You cannot use points from one resort to book at another until 7 months prior to your stay.

Well, you can look around for the cheapest point per price, but keep in mind that you have to have enough points in the 2nd contract to book 11 months out at that resort - as an example, you can't combine your points from another resort to book BLT (though you can borrow from your next UY if you so desire.)

I also own at BLT; I just added on 100 points at AKV because I wanted to be able to enjoy a long weekend on Club Level every so often. I bought direct thru Disney because I wanted the same UY as my BLT contract - they have great incentives right now to add on there; I got it for $91 a point. No closing costs, and I had my points online in less than 24 hours (and was able to book a 1 BR Jambo CL villa for DD's birthday next May.) I saw some resale contracts priced in the mid 80's but couldn't find the same UY. And by the time I figured in closing costs, it would have been a wash price wise and I didn't have to wait for ROFR. Now, if you can find a great price on a resale and aren't in a hurry to book like I was, resale may be a great option for you.

you can but if you book that home resort at 11 months and there's nothing else available at the 7 month window, will you be disappointed to stay there?

as already stated, no. you need BLT points to book BLT at 11 months. they can be banked/current/borrowed/transferred BLT pts, but they gotta be BLT pts.

some people like the idea of changing things up. maybe they want to go to BCV for epcot's food and wine every year, but want to make an occasional trip to AKV...so they buy BCV and then add-on a smaller contract at AKV that gives them the 11 month window at AKV every third year.

DVC directly is easiest for small add-ons. if you're happy with SSR or OKW, you can get some cheaper deals looking resale.
