Hay everyone!!!

My family and I will be cruising on the 8/17 Magic, and I am so excited! Anyone going on the at the same time?

I have a few questions about the activities onboard:

Is everyone aloud on the sports deck?
When is the best time to see the shows/movies?
Who are the best people to trade pins with?
Should I be looking forward to getting towle animals?
What is the arcade like?
What are the best onboard activity for teens?
How are the character tea parties?
If you attend one of these parties, do you have to dress fancy?
How good are the pools?

If you can't answer every one of my questions, that is perfectly fine with me.

Thankx!:D

My family will be on board for the 8/17 Western Carribean cruise. Looking to hook up with some fellow DISers on that Cruise. We have two boys- 10 and 16 who are looking for some friends to hang out with. Hope to see you there.

Hi Kelly:wave:

We'll be on the 8/17 Magic cruise!! Myself, DH, DS (9) and DD (5). We can't wait to sail again. Good luck finding answers to your questions. The above links should tell you everything your need to know and more. See you on board!

On the 8/17 with 7 and 8 yr. olds. Also from Pa. Dutch Country, maybe they will have to have pig stomach and sho-fly pie in the dining rooms!

Markey - that was SO funny! I can skip shoo-fly pie for a week, replacing it
with Mickey Bars!!!!!
SJCSuzy - hope we can introduce our DS during the cruise - two years ago
our DS was so shy, since he didn't know anyone and it was very unorganized
the first evening.
LET'S ALL MEET - I'M SO GLAD TO HEAR DISers will be on our cruise
I'm desparately searching for lime green ribbon

We're going on the August 17th Western Magic. My kids have been excited about it for the last year. (Trinity) DD 13 and (Stowaway) DD 10.

We're having a family reunion of sorts and we'll have lots of kids in tow. I think it's 5 additional cousins from age 16 through 10 and one adult who's a kid at heart :D

We'll be looking for you.

Just what is shoo-fly pie anyway?

I so happy to see some DIS'ers on our cruise!! We'll have to arrange a meet as it gets closer.

Minnie's Guy-that would be great to incroduce our sons. Mine is also a little shy in new situations. He went to the lab last year on the cruise but never really made any new friends.

Markey-Lol...I'm not sure I want to try pig stomach and sho-fly pie. Hopefully the dining room will have lots of choices!

We'll be looking for you all on board:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

AMISH SHOO-FLY PIE
CRUMB MIXTURE:
2 cups flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup lard, shortening, or butter
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, optional
1 teaspoon cinnamon, optional

SYRUP MIXTURE:
1 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 cup hot water
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in hot water

Crumb Mixture: Mix ingredients together thoroughly in a bowl until crumbs are formed.

Syrup Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix syrup ingredients thoroughly. Pour half of the syrup mixture into unbaked pie crust-lined 8-inch pie plate, then add half of crumb mixture; repeat with the other pie plate. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking 50 minutes more. Cool before eating. Yield: 2 (8-inch) pies.

 Markey---is this for real?

 I thought shoo-fly pie was a joke...an urban legend about life in the country.

I guess the joke is on me - I'll have to try making some. I'm sure it wont be available on the cruise!

August is just around the corner, right?

Does anyone know if the swimming pools on the Magic are fresh or salt water?

:bounce:

Osprey-yup, August will be here before we know it...I think the pools on the ship are fresh water.

Yes opsrey, the pools are all fresh water.
You are going to love the Magic. We were on the Wonder in August 2000, and it was fantastic. They are beautiful ships. We will all have a great time. See you there !!

That is so totally awesome that we all are going on the same cruise!!:D
Getting together would be a great idea.

Minnie's Guy - what is the weather like out on the Carib. in August? Were wondering about temps and rain. I've also heard some threads discussing wave conditions and seasickness. I've never cruised and I'm not sure what to expect.

Excited about going though!:bounce:

Osprey,
We had no problems with rough seas even though it is suppose to be the start of hurricane season. The ships are really good at avoiding any storms while sailing. The newer ships have stabilizers and the size helps keep them smooth. We hardly felt any motion.
As far as weather- it couldn't be more perfect. The temps were in the high 80s to low 90s,
but you have the constant sea breeze while sailing. It was a little hot in port (that was Nassau and Castaway Cay) and we will be farther south, so it will be warm on the islands. But a jump in the ocean and a cool drink and you're all set !! We had sunshine the entire time on the cruise.
One thing my DW mentioned was inside on the ship- some of the lounges and theaters are really cold ! She needed to carry a sweater into the shows- especially in the Walt Disney Theater. Any other questions- ask away !! We will all have to set up a meet when we get closer (which will come before we know it).

Minnie's Guy,

Thanks. I'm relieved to hear that August wa a good experience for you.

I've spent some time looking at the boards but I still have a few concerns. Formost is the idea of letting my kids loose without us to supervise. I'm a little slow to trust anyone these days.

I guess logistics also have me confused. Im not sure how to assure my kids can connect up with me without becomming a prisoner to some meeting location. Time just doesn't mean anything to them when they are having fun. If everyone is off finding their idea of entertainment, is their an easy way to connect up again? I've read about some personal radios that are available but my experience with these devices leaves me a bit dubious about their usefulness.

If our dinner seating was at say 6:30 and my kids don't show up till 7:15 are they still going to get served? Do we all have to wait to be seated together? ( I can almost guarantee that this is going to happen.)

How are the showers in the rooms. Is the water pressure adaquate?

Are the rooms made-up every day by room service? Do they bring new towles, sheets, soap, etc.? I've seen lots of tipping advice on the boards but I don't think I've seen anything covering the room cleaning services. Any advice?

I suspect I'm going to spend lots of time at the pool. I've read that the pool can get a little crowded and that the music near the pools can get a little loud. Also, I don't want to be looking over my shoulder every minute to check if my stuff is still where I left it. What was your experience?

Are any newspapers available? I guess that's easy to answer...on a ship.

I have conflicting information on the number of electrical outlets available in the rooms. If a 'duplex' has two outlets or plug connections, how may outlets are available for use and where are they? We antisipate needing to recharge several devices overnight every day.

I have more qestions but they will have to wait. I'll try to get them in latter today.

Thanks.

hey!

me and my family will also be on this cruise (im the daughter). my mom, dad, me (Megan-13 years old), and my twin brothers (Jeremy and Kyle-9 years old). the children of the family are hoping to meet other kids (i dont have a twin-im all alone! :( ) anyway, email me if you have kids about our ages and we can email and stuff before the cruise! thanks

Hey to Trinity and all our fellow cruisers,
I love the Amish Country of Pa. but have never eaten shoo-fly pie. Thanks for the recipe. Meggie Bearz my DD and we're all so excited to be going on our first cruise. I'm looking forward to meeting so many of you on board. I'm trying to decide on excursions for GC and Cozumel. Donna
