Hi.

I need to make a phone call from the U.S. to the U.K.. Having made only one international call in my life--and that several years ago-- I'd like to verify that I'm going to do it correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The number I was provided with (X's in place of numbers for security, no dashes) is: XXX XXXX XXXX. Would this be the city code plus the actual number? Am I right to think, then, that I should dial the following:

011 44 XXX XXXX XXXX

???

Thanks so much! :)

*edited because I accidentally typed "001" instead of "011"

That seems right to me.

We usually dial 011 44 and then the number. If the number you have starts with a 0 (not including the 011 44 part) I think you have to drop the zero.

I just called my cousin earlier today. His office number starts with a 0, but when I called I dropped that 0 and dialed 01144124XXXXXXX.

Hope that makes sense!

Also, FYI, check out onesuite.com - we cancelled our long distance provider and use this instead for all our national and international long distance calls. Quite a money saver! :)

I always dial 011 44 1323 XXXXXX for my family in Eastbourne. The code when at home in the UK is 01323 and therefore becomes 1323 when away. Basically you drop the first 0 from the town code or beginning of the UK mobile phone you are calling.
HTH.

Yep - I was calling UK several times on our very recent WDW trip and dialled exactly as Claire suggests :)

Thank you all! Yep, what I have starts with a "0," so I'll just leave that number off and dial 011 44 XX XXXX XXXX.

Thanks too for the onesuite.com tip, TigH. Perhaps I'll check it out sometime. :)
