My mother and I are going on a 4 day cruise in May (arriving one day before cruise and will be going back to Disney after cruise).
Do you think we should buy insurance? If so, how do we go about it.

We are using my parents Disney Vacation Club points for the cruise. So if something happens do we get points back?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

DVC offers an insurance that will re-imburse $5.00 per point used. They send you the information with your confirmation letter. As far as I know, this is the only insurance available with DVC points. They will not get the points back. They will get the $5 per point. For what it's worth, my points cost me more than that (considering the dues and purchase cost), but everyone's cost is a little different depending on when you bought and which is your home resort.

As to should you...does your medical insurance cover care outside of the US? Does it cover an air evacuation for medical reasons? Can you afford to lose the cost of the trip in the event of emergency?

If the answer to all of the above is "yes," then it is really up to you whether the fee for the insurance is worth it. If the answer to any of the 3 is "no," then you really need to buy the insurance.

Since you are arriving the day before, you could save some $ on your overnight stay by getting an MCO area hotel on Priceline (they run about $35 for a 3* hotel which includes a shuttle to and from the airport). That savings would go a long way toward the cost of the insurance......
