Well, I am Canadian and have exchanged all my money to American. I got some 1 dollar bills, which is what I've seen in the past.

BUT I have stumbled accross a US dollar coin. I think someone gave it to me as change thinking it was a Loonie (Canadian dollar).

Just making sure it's not a fake coin :P It's not dated so I can't tell if it's recent....Or are you all changing to the dollar coin now?

Thanks!

We have had several attempts at going to a coin dollar...but I do not believe it will ever happen. The Susan B. Anthony's are only slightly larger than a quarter...and very easy to mistake for a quarter. Here's this year attemps

Is it gold with a woman on it? It might be a Sacajawea dollar. I'm not sure if the John Adams dollar coins are in circulation yet.

hmmm well then! well the one I have is definetly a dollar coi..It;'s gold like the Canadian dollar....It has the Statue of Liberty on the front and Washington on the back...

There's also a Sacajawea (Indian woman and chilld) dollar coin.
The dollar coins haven't gone over very well.

oh ok, cool!

Dollar coins is all I am used to, I find it really hard when I go to the states, as I REALLY need to make sure I'm giving a dollar bill rather than a 10 dollar bill! They should be different colours :P haha

When we were in New York City, the street vendors gave us change in dollar coins. Don't know why.

oh, alright!

hm well it's only a dollar, maybe I will just save it! I do collect some coins when I get them...Yeah, I'll just do that!

When I lived in Portland, OR the transit machines gave all change in Susan B. Anthony dollars! They were way to close to quarters. I like the gold ones and wished we used them a lot more widely. They last so much longer than paper money.

I just got three dollar coins in change at a KFC. There were two George Washington's and a Sacajawea. Since dollar coins never were very popular people are usually try to get rid of them as quick as possible. But they are as good as a paper bill.

According to Google, it's the other way around...Washington on Front and Statue of L on the back. That said, I am not sure how anyone can know what is the front and/or the back. I guess the depiction of real people would be considered in need of a respectful "front" position. :confused3

I think the mint makes an official statement as to which side is considered to be the front ("obverse") and which is the back ("reverse.") In the US, I think the side with a person on it is always considered the front. Also, there are various phrases that appear on the front of all US coins ("Liberty" and "In God We Trust") while the back always says "E Pluribus Unum."

It's neat that one of the new Presidential dollar coins showed up in Canada! I haven't seen one yet. As others have said, this is the 3rd attempt in recent years to establish a $1 US coin. The others never caught on. I hope this one will; using dollar bills in vending machines is a hassle!

Be prepared to get a funny look, though. Many merchants don't know where to put them in their cash drawers. We hardly ever get or use them.

I'm a teller and have over $100 sitting in my cash box at the bank in coins. No one wants them.

I'm a school bus driver and found a John Adams dollar coin on the bus the other day! Are parents giving them out for lunch money these days? lol

Good idea! I understand your attraction to dollar coins. I lived in Bermuda for a number of years and got used to the dollar coins. But I think it works well in Bermuda because they have a popular $2 bill. This allows you to carry small amounts of money, yet avoid having a pocket full of loud, heavy coins. The last time we tried a $2 bill in the States was the 1970s, and it did not go over well.

Now I dump all of the change in my pocket as soon as I get the chance, so I don't want it to add up to very much money!

I'd say that's stretching it a little. The U.S. has been printing $2 bills all along. I have at least $500 worth of new bills bearing the date 2006 on them.
