OK so we love Southwest and fly it often - we usually do straight flights though - no stops. I"m about to book something that has a stop (and a plane change)- how do the boarding numbers work?

If for example for my 1st leg I get B10 - what do I get for the 2nd leg of our trip?

TIA!!

In my experience I'm usually given a "better" boarding number for the second flight. If I get a high A or a low B for the first flight I generally get a lower A for the second flight. It will depend on how many people are now doing the Early Bird Check-in but since you are checking in before the 24 hour mark for the 2nd flight you'll generally get a good boarding pass.

It will depend on how many connecting flights will be on the plane you will be getting onto, and of course how many people do the early bird check in. If their initial flight leaves before your flight, therefore they will be checking in before you do, they will have their first and 2nd leg already checked in, as later connectors start to check in, they will just keep going on the BPs. If your flight is the latest taking off, your 2nd leg will be the last ones assigned. Also, you cant really go by boarding passes, as if it's a continuation flight, there will be thru passengers on the plane already, but they will still start the BP's at a1 for BS even though there are already people on the plane. Think I explained that right :)
