Question about Michigan birth certificates

Is anyone familiar with Michigan birth certificates? I'm looking at mine and it does not have a raised seal but it does say that it is certified. I am also looking at my DD's and my DS's and theirs doesn't have a raised seal either and I had to get theirs from the County Clerk's office and it also says that it is certified. I would hate to get to the ship and have no Passport and find out our birth certificates are no good. Please help!

That's very strange! We recently checked ours too and both my (Kent Co.) and my DS (Ottawa Co.) certified copies had raised seals.

I just recently got my daughter a new one from Michigan and yes, it was cerified but no raised seal. I found that very odd also. I guess that is how they do it now. Whatever she needed it for, it worked fine!

Hi: Before our first DCL cruise in 1999, I ordered new birth certificates for myself and DH through the State of Michigan because my DH's never looked "official" to me and mine was not in the best shape after 40+ years. I went to the State website (Michigan.gov) and ordered one for each of us and they were received within a week or 10 days. The cost was about $13 each. Jan

I live in Michigan. My husband and I used our Michigan birth certificates on our last cruise and had no trouble with them. Since then, we applied for passports for ourselves and our children, and again had no trouble with the birth certificates not having a raised seal. We decided to get passports so we didn't have to take our birth certifcates with us on trips and also because we go over the border to Canada periodically and it is easier to cross the border with passports. It took less than two weeks to receive our passports!

I don't think you will have any problem with your Michigan birth certificates. Have a great trip!

I guess there are no standard rules on birth certs in MI. My kids were all born in MI and their birth certs were issued by the city they were born in and have a raised seal!!!
