@lynxstch, so many prayers to you! I really hope everything turns out well with your grandson. I can only imagine how much pain he must be in.

(Not a fan of hospital ERs...after the one closest to us did absolutely nothing for my DH when he was sent from a doctor's office with a blood pressure of 180-something over 120-something. It is NOT a busy hospital; there might be 2-3 people in the ER at any given time, tops. When he walked out 10 hours later, they gave him a sarcastic, "Bye, hope you feel better!" :furious: )

I can relate..husband literally 'died' at work 4 years ago, they got him breathing again, and determined that his pacemaker had stopped working. Got him to the ER, where the Dr put in a new pacemaker, but neglected to check the leads, one was cracked which is what caused the first one to stop working. So the new one did the same thing, and he stopped breathing again. They then determined it was a cracked lead, but our hospital (which is supposed to be a good cardiac one?), couldn't replace it. We ended up in Baltimore, where we met a wonderful Dr. They got the old lead out, put new one in. But he got an infection, and they had to take the whole thing out. Waited for the hole in his chest to clear up, then they had to put a new pacemaker/icd in , but on the right side of his chest instead of the left, where it normally goes. From the day it started to the day it ended was almost 6 months to the day! So he now goes to our hospital for the device checks only, and the moron Dr who never checked the leads, always has to stick his head in and ask how hubby is doing. The one thing that Dr. DID learn from all that,,is that they now check leads EVERY time, whether it be just a device check, or putting in a whole new pacemaker, or defibrillator, or fixing something on an existing one. Maybe my causing a big stink at the time, has lead to someone else not dying at that Drs hands!

I'm also hoping that the lurker in the woods is caught soon. That is definitely one thing that I am paranoid about. Do you have deadbolts on your doors? Our handyman put up a really good one on our back sliding door that I love - there is absolutely no way to open that door from the outside now.
Yes to the deadbolts,,and we now have 6 security lights outside (just ordered 2 more last nite to put out front). Thank you for your concern,,it bothers me a lot too, not sleeping well till they catch that guy!

Just killing time right now until Josh's Saturday soccer game. My in-laws are coming as well, plus DH's brother and his family. This should be interesting...we got a "sternly-worded" email from the soccer association a few days ago regarding the number of spectators. There should only be 2 per player, despite the fact that we're outdoors AND wearing masks. We're just going to all pretend that we don't know each other and stay apart, I suppose. Afterward, DH needs to take his parents to Best Buy for new cell phones - they want to try the Jitterbugs. Mom wants a smart phone, but Dad still wants a flip phone. He hates cell phones in the first place and doesn't really want one, but it's become a necessary evil. My mom and I will be heading over to Kohl's to get the rest of a birthday gift for one of Josh's friends.

Surprisingly, there will be photos done at Josh's school next month. I'm just going to order a small package, as I'd rather take some of my own. People have been complaining for years that you have to order a package before they even take the photos. I was thinking of taking him to the Reservoir around October 17th/18th for our personal photos, but since the colors are already changing, I might have to move it up a week. I was thinking that date because DH and I went up there on our 2nd anniversary, which is October 15th, and the colors were perfect and brilliant that day. Last year we went to a corn maze on the 14th and the colors were just starting to change. But it does seem that it will need to be earlier this year. We saw lots of vibrant reds and oranges already in MA the other day!

No movie night at his friend's house tonight - they already had previous plans. I love them, but I am grateful for the night off. We might not be able to go next week either, if they have it, as we have to get up early on Sunday and make a 90-minute drive to the Southwick Zoo for his other friend's birthday celebration. Although with his attitude lately, I don't know that we should be doing ANYTHING fun...

Hope you have a great weekend between soccer games, and inlaws!

Many, many prayers Lynxsch! How frustrating and scary, too! A hospital (anywhere) ought to treat people better! I am so sorry your grandson and his mom (and you) are going through all this!

Apirateslifeforme, yikes! :( That is not too good either! I also hope you have a fun weekend. When I read about you considering taking your own pictures my first thought was that of course you should do that since you take such great photos :) You do!

It's cooler here this morning which is nice. Seems dark outside right now not very light yet. It's going on 9am.

I was thinking about wall calendars yesterday. Do any of you still use one (or more)? I know not everyone does these days! I get almost every year the WWF Songbird calendar. I am not particular to birds. This seems to be one of the only calendars that lists the first Sundays of Lent and Advent on it (which is important to me). I've flipped through some calendars were Christmas Eve is not even listed! On the flipside this same calendar also seems to go out of its way to include so many extra things that honestly I have no need to see in the boxes! I have suggested in times past that my church create a calendar. I thought this would be an excellent way to get more people involved, create perhaps some new ministries, and just further connections among congregants while being a fundraiser at the same time. Did not go over well. Sometime I may suggest it again or try to head it up myself. I have also heard of young families making a family calendar with photos which sounded like a great family project and also way to perhaps get kids involved with the making of the calendar, too.

Saturday 9/26 QOTD: What type of wall and/or datebook calendar(s) do you have? Do you tend to get the same choices each year or choose differently?

@lynxstch Sending prayers for your grandson.🙏
@apirateslifeforme Hope Josh has a fun soccer game.⚽

I love Mary Engelbreit's pocket and wall calendars. Her little sayings and artwork make me smile.
I order them each year.

I always get a cat one for the kitchen. I get a large desk one for the computer desk. I get hubby a small page a day Charlie Brown one, and I usually get a scenic one for the door of the computer room.

we have to get up early on Sunday and make a 90-minute drive to the Southwick Zoo

I love that one! With the possible exception of the Smithsonian National Zoo, it's probably my favorite. - I was ridiculously excited to feed the deer. 😃

We do still hang up wall calendars - one on the fridge for general stuff, and another on the basement door for DH's Lodge stuff. I also have a perpetual birthday calendar, kind of like this one:

528200
where I got the picture

And every year, I get my brother a calendar and put all the family birthdays on it. It started out as a fun little Christmas present one year, because I looked up a bunch of wacky holidays to put on it as well (stuff like National Chocolate Chip Cookie day, and Talk Like A Pirate Day) and it became a tradition. Now you can get calendars with a holiday for every day already on them.

I have also heard of young families making a family calendar with photos.

We did that one year as a Christmas gift for DH's parents and his aunt & uncle. We used pics of all the grandkids, and it was a huge hit!

I do not have a calendar; well, except the one on my desktop or my phone. DH has a basic wall calendar in his 'office' as he needs something to write job notes on. (Side note: there is a Calendar Reddit gift exchange this time, if anyone is looking ahead to next years need for one; signups close Monday morning).

Made burgers (beef for DS/me; Beyond Burger for DH), fries and veg for lunch. Yes, we have this at least once a week, but it's easy, something no one fights about eating, and DS or DH can cook them, so they can step in and give me a break! Tomorrow we are having ground chicken, black bean, cheese and sour cream burritos (with yummy salsa); something easy to make and eat since I actually get the Bronco game on the tv this weekend.

I posted awhile back about us having to change to AT&T TV; got an email yesterday saying we are getting a $200 gift card for it! I tried to do the virtual card, but couldn't get it to go through, so I put in for a physical one, which should be here in about 3 weeks. Once it comes, I'm using that to take care of DGS#1, DGS#3, DD#1 and SoiL#1's Christmas gifts. Then all I have to worry about is DS, and he's getting $$$. All of DD#2's family gifts were delivered, so they are done; and DH and I are not worrying about gifts for us...he's wanting a new amp and I need a new SSD; easy peasy.

Grandson just woke up after having slept a few hours. Says his chest hurts less now, but his ankle hurts worse, constant pain. His Mom said it looks much worse than it did earlier. They are on their way to Urgent Care now..she wants to make sure that it isn't broken, because we don't want it to start to mend if it is, it will bother him the rest of his life. She will let me know later on what they have to say
We got subs for dinner from the local Italian place. Hubby got Italian sub, I got chicken parm sub. At least there was no cooking or dishes involved, lol! Have a great evening everyone..thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for Grandson..Between RJ (grandson) and Madalyn, we have kept God and the Drs and Nurses busy this week with all the prayers :)

Hugs to you, Lynxstch extra and continued prayer indeed for Madalyn and RJ.

I have one last extra Hidden Picture Book to send someone either for yourself (again they are not as easy you might think) or more ideally a child or grandchild. Dad is going to the post office Monday. Please PM me by tomorrow evening your interest and also mailing information should you be interested :)

Good evening, This was one of those day that did not turn out as planned.

We were going to get crabs and DD and family were coming. DD called this morning and DGD has a snot nose and low grade fever. She gets this every fall when she goes back to daycare, but with COVID and the fact I catch from her everything she gets, we decided to cancel. DH and I were going to get crabs anyway but both places we tried in Middletown did not have them. So, DH is out getting carry out for the two of us.

I had baked brownies for dessert so dropped half the batch off at DD's house and visited through the window. DGD seems fine but I am being cautious.

We got up this morning and were surprised to see it raining. That precluded our plans to hike so ended up grocery shopping. Did get to Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge this afternoon. Saw lots of geese, some egrets, and some swans. The swans were new to us.

For the bedroom I made a Shutterfly calendar with family pictures throughout the year. For the kitchen, we used to get an Outer Banks calendar each year until the artist retired. Now I make a kitchen calendar on Shutterfly with photos from our vacation travels. This year, that is going to be difficult. We are able to input all the birthdays and holidays we want shown. We write appts and things to remember on the kitchen one.
Good question.

Last update for the day from stepdaughter about grandson--just got done and at the pharmacy. The report from the radiologist was explained to me. He stated that there is an extreme amount of swelling and can't see if their are any fractures until the swelling goes down. Have to have a followup xray in 3-7 days when the swelling starts to go down. Also had a chest xray and the doc said he has swelling and bruising but nothing is broken.

He is so lucky, it could have been much worse, or even deadly! Thank God he is okay!

I use free calendars, I get them in the mail sometimes from charities looking for contributions or at the bank. I use one for our business, one for personal bills and one that hangs on the wall for all to see what is going on, i.e. doctor visits, birthdays, etc. I also keep up with one on my phone.

Lil Joe had his first soccer game today. Was so fun to watch. Then headed over to BIL and wife's new home. Took them some medium orange mums for a housewarming gift.

Dinner was out to eat Tex Mex.

Worked some long shifts. Busy. Had a nice Anniversary. Thank you for all the well wishes! DS took us out for breakfast unexpectedly. We then spent the afternoon walking around Plymouth as it was such a beautiful day out (sunny and 79) - will post some pics. Came home, cooled off and rested for a while (got super hot in sun w cloth masks, should’ve worn paper), then when DD’s boyfriend got out of work, we all went out to dinner (w DS and his girlfriend, too). Our favorite place in The North End has no outdoor seating and DH thought it would be very crowded inside, 😕 so we decided to stay local. We were able to eat outside at a place that has both fire and water, which is nice (from a Feng Shui perspective, ie good Chi and very relaxing), as well as a guitarist playing great tunes, so we had a good time. Food was just so-so, I missed my North End Italian! (Will have to get in there soon on a weekday.) We had bakery cake at home then played Gin Rummy till after midnight.

Today DS’s girlfriend (who loves to cook) is going to help DH make us a Greek meal tonight I found online last week, she offered to shop this morning and get the chicken marinated. We’re going to DD’s boyfriend’s game this afternoon, then coming home and making that. So it was nice to be able to spend time together this weekend, cherishing these moments before they go off on their own soon enough. I will post the recipe for this meal as it looks so good, and healthy!

DS got a very nasty injury to his leg playing softball the other night sliding into base with shorts on! 😳 I have no idea what he was thinking, lol. DD did a really nice job cleaning and dressing it, I was impressed! But it has been swollen and painful ever since. Hopefully it doesn’t get infected with all the dirt that was in it, but we’re watching it.

Speaking of injuries, @lynxstch I am so sorry to hear about your grandson’s mishap! I am glad he was not hurt worse. We had a young man killed here that way not too long ago. And poor kid being upset about the deer. Mine would’ve been, also. Traumatic incident, for sure. Sorry they had such a bad experience at the hospital. I worked in a Boston ER for several years. It would not be unusual to have a concussion in a situation like that. A sudden hit causes the brain to hit up against the side of the skull, and it gets bruised. Thing is, though, it does not show up on a CT scan unless there is a bleed, which there usually isn’t, so you just have to know it’s there from the injury and treat it accordingly, which also varies according to what doctor you see. I had a concussion a few years ago. Saw six different doctors over the course of it and they all told me something different. Thankfully a neurologist helped me the most. But with all his other pain and difficulty breathing he may not even notice the neurological symptoms till things quiet down. You worry about a cardiac contusion and other things with a chest injury, so something to keep an eye on. But there’s not a lot they do for broken ribs, and they can be painful! So hopefully someone made recommendations for pain management. At minimum he needs rest for several days with his leg elevated to help the swelling. And keep a low threshold for being seen if things get worse, though he will be in pain for a bit, for sure. Definitely he should follow up with his pediatrician. What did his parents have to say to him about that little stunt? 😰

QOTD: Every year for XMas DH gets me a dog calendar, the last several years Cairn Terriers. It makes me happy looking at each month. We have a wooden holder in the kitchen for it. I also use a datebook, I have to for my crazy schedule! Also dog ones, the small pocket two year planner. Right now I have a German Shepherd one but it runs out at the end of this year so I have to get another soon. I was telling DD she would need a pocket calendar also for her crazy schedule, but she uses her phone. Her preceptor told her she needed one though, so she re-thought it. Instead of buying one, though, she made it! She bought a blank-pages book and made her own calendar from it. She’s very artsy and it looked like she bought it, maybe even better. I told her she could sell them, but it took her a long time to make. Relaxing, though, as she’s been exhausted starting her new job and getting used to the long hours and stress, which will get better as she gets more comfortable. She’s so happy to not be doing schoolwork for once so it’s a nice change. DH and DS don’t use calendars except their phones. It seems to work for them, but they have M-F typical schedules.

They gave him a prescription for pain, and did say to keep it elevated as much as possible. As soon as he is healed ,and up and about, he will be grounded for at least a month. No dirt bikes till 18. He's had a job at McDonald's for about 3 months now and loves it, is worried that they will fire him since he can't go back to work for awhile. I would have grounded him till he was 21, lol. He also has to pay for the friends dirt bike that got wrecked by hitting the deer. Come to find out, there were 2 friends out with him, all riding without permission at midnite. The other 2 were not very close to where grandson was, they only knew something happened as they got closer, and saw the light on the bike at ground level instead of where it should have been, and saw deer fur flying in the air. All 3 of them are in trouble! But maybe they learned a lesson. At least he had a helmet on (the other 2 did not!), or he would have for sure had a concussion. Thank you for the info about it not possibly showing up till after the other symptoms start to go away. Will tell stepdaughter to keep an eye on that.
