Bianca and Bernard, prayers for your son's teacher indeed! As always cute picture of your DGS :)

Aww, hug, feel better, Snowysmom! Thank you for the pillow suggestion. The issue with this current chair is it's too big for me. I need to lean forward to type thus my back and shoulders are not much supported by the chair :( There's no room under the desk due to the big arm rests to fully push it under.

Good news, the chair has already been picked up and is out of the house. The man who came to get it could nor have been any nicer. He did sadly tell me the chair would be tossed :( He said it is cheaply made and that it was no surprise to hear it was defective. I feel badly about that (it being tossed) because all it needed for someone to use was a proper back.

Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Blustery is right! Expecting to see Pooh and gang coming by any moment! It really feels like fall here now. Leaves are beginning to turn, pumpkins are out everywhere, and homes are decorated for fall. So pretty! I am planning to do my fall decorating this coming weekend.

Love the Pooh reference, and I’m planning to decorate this weekend as well. I’ve spotted scattered trees changing for a bit now, but today was the first morning that my drive really screamed fall.

@lynxstch, so happy to hear that wonderful update on Madalyn!

Me too!

He had 2 good days at school, so now he's home for 5 days. I hope the next 3 days of distance learning go better than last week. I'm trying to be optimistic that it will get better as he gets used to it. He has a new "girlfriend" this year, as his preschool "girlfriend" isn't in his school. He told us last night at dinner that "Ava has curly dark hair just like Irene did." So...my 5-year-old child already has a "type." Great.

So funny about the “girlfriends” and type!

I am finding with the twins that the great days seem to alternate with the challenging ones. But the routine is slowly falling into place.

I just got this message from Madalyn's Mom, along with the rest of the family..it made me laugh!
Ya’ll, I need more prayers...my daughter that was just discharged from a week in the hospital yesterday and couldn’t even walk on Sunday without holding onto things and shuffling like a 95 year old granny, seems to think that she needs to be out riding her skateboard and playing soccer today 🥴😅 I’m beyond thankful that she’s feeling so much better, but nervous that she’s going to over do it and set herself up for injury/sickness. Meghan just said “trying to contain Madalyn is like trying to keep Honey calm after she got spayed” aka IMPOSSIBLE 🤣🤣🤣

Lynxstch -
it's it amazing how resilient kids can be?!?! Your poor sister! From one extreme to the other, well I'm sure she is thrilled to be experiencing this extreme so soon after that health scare!

Beautiful day here - at least it looks like it from my office window! Had a bit of excitement earlier today as we had to pups find their way into our shop yard. We are in the midst of corn fields and no line roads BUT right on a major 4 lane hwy, plus we have tractor trailers and dump trucks in and out of the shop all day...so we corralled the pups, gave them some water and checked for tags. Collars, no tags. But they were healthy and well cared for - we figured they were local and someone was probably missing them. I called Animal Control to wand them, but before they got here their Mom arrived from down the side road. Indeed the little buggers had made off and had a great time running thru the fields and tall grass before thankfully making their way into our gated shop yard. Next stop was major highway!

No major plans this afternoon or this evening. We are hoping - fingers crossed! - that our trees arrive on Friday. So far they are scheduled to be delivered by Friday, but you know how deliveries have been of late. We've got 4 guys we've hired for the day to come and plant them, or at least get started planting them, starting at 7 AM Saturday morning. Dang I hope they arrive...anyway, not much on the schedule this evening. Husband got home safe & sound last night from his hunting trip, but neither of us nor the dogs slept well, so I predict that all 4 of us will sleep good tonight. My stomach is feeling a bit unsettled, and I feel like I'm about due a lazy evening. I'll be on the tractor Friday evening and a fair bit of Saturday, so I'll gladly take the break.

Grilled (or oven baked?) chicken quarters this evening with some cilantro-lime rice I found in the pantry... I've placed a grocery order for pick up on Friday, hope we make it, it's going to be close haha!

I think one evening this weekend we will light up the firepit down by the water for the first time this season and maybe grill some burgers down there for dinner. I might see if I can hunt up some Gluewein or maybe hot buttered rum for the occasion. Plus - we STILL haven't cracked open the s'mores supplies we got in May! Times a wasting!

There are some great posts over on the Universal areas of this board from the prospective of new visitors to Universal and tips they've offered. I'm picking up a few good tips for sure, which I appreciate. For the first time I'm really starting to look forward to getting away. I think we've given up on traveling internationally next year which is a bummer. But, eventually - right? And you never know, maybe things will improve enough....

Seems like everyone is getting their flu shots so much earlier this year. I always get one but usually late October. I have to make an MD appt anyway but he is moving his office so I have to wait. I'll ask about it then.
I noticed that it seems early as well. But I've also heard about the possibility that it could help with COVID, should one have the misfortune of getting it. If it does, great...if not, well, at least I got my flu shot out of the way! I also wanted to get mine early because a few years ago, my mom and I both waited until mid-October and we were turned away from every pharmacy/doctor's office/urgent care in the area. There was a shortage and they were only giving it to people over age 65. So now I make sure that I get it as soon as it's available now.

@apirateslifeforme We lived a few places overseas where trick or treating wasn't done. I made up games and a had a little party at our house. I put a couple of pieces of candy each in a bunch of sandwich bags, tied them with ribbon and hid the bags. Between dressing up, the candy hunt and pizza it was fun. Maybe an idea or two is helpful as you plan.
I'm really considering an around-the-house scavenger hunt - I'll have to start working on it soon in order to get it done for Halloween. He's smart enough to use clues now, instead of just telling him where to find the candy. Even if we can still go out, it would be fun to do a hunt as well, I think!

@flyingdumbo127, I'm sorry about your chair. The one I used at home when DH and I were first married was just like that! No support, arms too big to fit under a desk, etc. I sometimes wonder if the pain I sometimes have in my back/down my legs stems from that chair!

I really put my foot down with Josh and distance learning today. He'd already had his music assignment and one PE assignment posted on Teams to begin with, and this morning we woke up to a 2nd PE assignment sitting there. So since he only had 3 meetings today, I made him do the music and 1st PE assignments, as well as one more state on our own. We only have 15 more states left to do! Of course, he's a bit cross with me now...I never let him do anything fun :sad2: One thing I also don't understand...the parents who have their kids doing their school meetings in front of a blaring-loud TV, who also take/make phone calls right there in the room, etc. Then the kid wants to tell the class something, so they turn on their microphone, but you can't hear what they're saying because the background noise is so much louder! I can tell that the teacher is struggling to find a way to mention the excess noise, but clearly the parent isn't paying attention anyway. I mean, I do kind of zone out while doing my own thing - playing a game or doing my word puzzle book - but I keep it quiet :confused3

I bought a white pumpkin on Saturday, as I always paint a Jack Skellington face on it. I'm really proud of this year's - way better than last year!

Oh I would LOVE to have some pups come and visit me!! ❤️ So glad those two belonged to someone! We’ve made a little progress on the dog I’ve been wanting to adopt from Asia. It seems like it just might take extra time due to Covid restrictions with flights and such.

My DD does the Reddit gift exchange too. She was a little disappointed last time as she got a very bizarre gift while she gave really nice ones. Well about a week and a half later she got another package that had something halfway decent in it from the same person. Idk if it was because of the bad review or because half the package was mailed separately. But she’s signed up for the next one and already got what she’s sending. She enjoys doing it. She is almost finished with her hospital orientation. It went really well, but she’s exhausted! She is enjoying not having to do schoolwork, though, for the first September she can remember!

Our anniversary is this weekend. Yes this is a big month for us between birthdays and anniversaries. (BTW we had lemon cake, too, for our bdays this month, I noticed other posters mentioned this too.) We are planning dinner either in the North End of Boston or a local Italian place depending on who is coming and what everyone’s schedules are. We had Italian when we were away for our bdays and I was a little disappointed. But it is hard to compare anything with to the North End where we usually celebrate. I had gotten fish, which I sometimes do in the NE as well, but it had no flavor, and I didn’t like the flavor of the vegetables. Unlike me because I generally like almost everything. But looking forward to my tried and true this weekend

Thanks, apirateslifeforme. Oh no! I'm so sorry you had a similar chair experience :(

Easyas123, how cool that you have your own pumpkin patch though!

I'd also love a visiting pup! :dog:Happy upcoming Anniversary to you and your husband, Pea! Wishing you both joy and health always!

ETA: I don't know how I missed it earlier, what a wonderful "problem" to have with Madalyn! Praise God!

We had one once - followed DH right up to the door, so we let it in the mudroom and checked its tags. Thankfully, the family's number was there! We called and "Mom" came right over to pick the little scamp up.

Glad the one's in @easyas123's yard stopped there and didn't make it to the highway!!

QOTD: does anyone speak several languages ?

I took Spanish in high school and went to visit Spain. Now i’m learning French along with my teenager

Buenos Dias. Bon matin. Guten Morgen. Buongiorno. Bom dia.
Sobh bekheir. Suprabhat. Zaoan

Bonjour @sparkle78 Other than English, the only language I an speak a little bit is French, as you can see, lol!
Good morning everyone--hope you all have a lovely day, going to be a carbon copy weather day just like the last 2, it could stay like this all year and I would be very happy!

Good morning.

We had a lovely day at the beach yesterday. Started with buying something at the state park's nature center. I had seen a bracelet there in February that I wanted for DD's birthday in May. Figured I'd get it on one of our next trips, but then COVID interrupted that. So, I was able to get it yesterday and it will be a Christmas gift.

After that we rode the bikes into Rehoboth and got slices of Grottos pizza for lunch before riding back to the state park. About a 13 mile bike ride. Then sat on the beach for 1-2 hours before driving home. We didn't get home til near 8 so I made grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches for dinner. We are learning to embrace the retired life.

@easyas123 so glad you were able to rescue and reunite those pups with their family. And a fire with s'mores sounds great.

@apirateslifeforme I used to make a treasure hunt for the kids' birthday. We always gave one gift in the morning before school and it would be a treasure hunt. I made file cards that had them running to the mailbox and dryer and swing set, etc, until they arrived at the gift. I think I still have the cards.

QOTD: does anyone speak several languages ?
I took 3 +/- years of French in high school. No, I only speak English.

I also took HS French but retained very little of it.

Kinda cloudy & gloomy outside my window today, although I think our actual rain chances are minimal. Gotta head home around 11:15 to to a zoom Dr. appt. so I'll put the pups out for the afternoon then. Husband and I indulged a little this morning, I had a apple cider doughnut and he had a pumpkin spice doughnut :P !

Good Morning friends :)

QOTD: does anyone speak several languages ? Just English. Spanish (in high school) did come easily to me to learn. I retained almost zero of it over the many years since!

Some Spanish. I took 2 years in high school, and remember basics, like alphabet, counting, months/days, etc. I know kitchen Spanglish from working in the restaurant industry, lol.

DS took 2 years of Spanish (the last 2 years) and remembers none of it.

SoiL#1 speaks German.
DD#2 speaks a bit of Spanish, and a little Khmer as well; she's starting to get some phrases in Japanese down now. SoiL#2 is fluent in Khmer (language most spoken at home when he was growing up); some Spanish, and some Japanese.
My cousin used to work for the UN as a translator. He could speak 10 or so languages fluently, and could understand enough in about 10 others to get the gist of what was being said.

Lazy day today. Went to get milk, came home with grapes and apples but no milk. Totally forgot it, so will have to get it tomorrow. Oiy

Baking some chicken breasts and sauting veggies for DH for lunch; I'm having leftover rigatoni, and DS will have leftover ground beef tacos. Lemon cake for dessert.

Our 20th anniversary is Sept 30 and my birthday is the day after Oct 1. Hitting 66 this year..65 was hard, but I don't think 66 will be that much harder, lol! Traditional gift is platinum, but this year we are celebrating with a new central heating and air conditioning system. :) Will still keep the wood stove for back up in really cold weather, but the carrying and stacking of wood all by myself, is getting to be too much . Hubby has a heart condition and can't do stuff like that anymore. :( I just called the heating place and told the we accept their estimate (since they were almost $2000 less than 3 others we got!).
It was supposed to be sunny and 77 today, but it's mostly cloudy and only 66 now. Sister in law just stopped by after a visit to the farmers market and brought us zucchini and tomato's. She said there were very few farmers there today..no more corn, not much squash, hardly any apples. Plenty of tomatoes and pumpkins though. Fall is definitely on it's way!

Happy Anniversary to you! And Birthday!
We celebrated 27 years in August, and we turn 48 & 49 in October. My husband was born to be a old man and has no problem with it. Me on the other hand? I'm feeling a bit weirded out about turning 50 in two years. I know 50 isn't necessarily old, I think it's just a mental thing for me. I find myself constantly evaluating our finances & investments and home and things like that. Luckily we are past braces & HS & College tuition for the kids, so at least we don't have to deal with that anymore. :thumbsup2 At least as long as the dogs don't want braces or to go to school!!!

Good news about supper tonight. Remembered to take a rack lamb out, so we will have that over cilantro lime rice. I'm barely going to make it till my grocery order pick up ha ha!!

I have some medical testing this afternoon. I suspect something is brewing, I had a tele appt. earlier today, but I wish I could have seen her in person. Test appt. isn't until 4 and I'm guessing that they won't have any results until tomorrow. I hate waiting when it's stuff like this.

Bianca and Bernard, I do remember the days of the week in Spanish but lol not a whole lot more! That is awesome about your cousin. Good for him! :)

Aww, Happy, Happy 20th Anniversary Lynxstch and Birthday, too! That is a smart way to celebrate! I hope you also get to do something fun or relaxing :)

Congratulations to you and your DH, Easyas123. Prayers for you, my friend this afternoon and tomorrow :flower3:

Lol, not Fall here. it is supposed to be 97 on Tuesday! It is starting to get darker earlier though.

@easyas123, I hope all is well and nothing too serious is "brewing."

All of a sudden I have an abundance of tomatoes ripening. Seems about a month too late.

We rode into Newark, DE to the bike store to get a bike rack for DH's car. They had none. Said the pandemic really had them selling out of bikes and racks. We came home and I ordered the one I wanted direct from the manufacturer online. On the way home stopped at the local orchard to get cider. Took this autumn picture.
