QUESTION of the DAY: Are you a morning person or a night owl?? Have you always been this way? What about others in your family?? I am definitely a morning person! Early in the day is when I feel best, have the most energy and stuff. I start to wind down early to mid afternoon. I do remember every now and then in college when I lived in the dorms watching some of the late show in the common room with a few others when I was having trouble sleeping but not too often. Thanks for this question, AuntieMe3, good to have you back as well :)

Hello Monday.

I was so tired last night I never got back here. DGD family, including their dog, got here around 2. We had the pool out back and DGD wanted Grandmom to play in the sandbox and get the toy lawnmower and...... Everyone else chatted. We had a nice cook out then had a fire in the fire pit and made s'mores. Such fun. SIL helped move the sofa from the kitchen to the garage and a cabinet to the basement.

As far as the red, white, and blue questions, my brain couldn't come up with an answer. DD did bring strawberry pretzel salad yesterday which was delicious and covered red and white.

Since being retired, it doesn't really matter. I can't do any important, decision making work in the evening so maybe that makes me a morning person. And, since March, I have no reason to force myself out of bed. What a wishy-washy answer. But, if I need to be up early to be somewhere, I have no problem getting up. Both kids and their spouses are definite morning people, probably at least in part because of the timing of their work shifts. DS's shift starts at 5 am. When we went to the beach together for a week in 2018, we had no problem all getting to the beach by 9:30 am but they were all in bed by 10 pm.

Gratitudes:
Such a fun, but tiring, day with family yesterday
Good food
DGD facetiming me today

Happy Monday to all,

We are back from the lake house with a little more tan, few bug bites, gorgeous pictures and good memories.
Matt was adventurous this weekend! I'm thinking might have been help :drinking1 He tried standing up on paddleboard, went fishing out on the boat first time ever and out racing in the waves with a favorite uncle on the jet ski. What did I do you ask? :beach::drinking1:boat: I tried out the new hammock, had few new cocktails and let someone drive the boat around the bay while I sat in the back. We sat on the dock and watched fireworks and then had smores from the firepit. It was my second time having homemade smores. I made my first smore last year at Dollywood. I prefer just the marshmallow or maybe it if was on pretzel. It was just so sweet..

We did go over to the other family house and had a nice lunch out on the deck and never close to her (I feel I have to justify everything now) with his grandma (who looking great) and couple aunts, which was really nice. She was so happy to have time with everyone and feel safer to do so. Did I mention I married into a large family? We were pretty safe with limited (like 10 or 12 people per house with 3 houses owned and 1 rented) and never all together and sort of just stuck with that house other than taking turns in very small groups to go see Grandma. All in all very blessed to have such time in difficult year.

Today is the anniversary of us finding my father in law damn near dead 4 years ago. This is tough time for my Matt and to see him happy and laughing this weekend was worth risking the plague. We left yesterday and drove the hour to cemetery to leave flowers as next would have been my FIL's bday and next month is anniversary of his death (a VERY long 38 days in hospital for him and us!)

Now back to the grind of accounting and getting him ready to start his new job next week. Hand sanitizer and masks packed in the car for him. Can't wait to catch up and see how everyone else is doing.
Thank you so much for keeping this thread going and being safe place in storm of some ugly going on.

I could stay up all night and go hard all next day when in college. I still can in time of crisis and not think about it. But my choice is to be asleep by 11 at the very latest(10pm is my happy spot) and my internal clock is awake by 6am usually. Matt's new job has him reporting in at 6am so alarm going off at 430am again, back to army time! Thankfully he has the same sleep clock I do but I'm much lighter sleeper (always restless) and he is out when he gets still and quiet. I'll be up (I'm one who cannot hit snooze) and I'll get him out the door and start using our gym room and then get my day started. That doesn't mean I won't be napping!
I prefer it this way actually. When we were at the lake house, I'd get up super early and have my morning coffee on the porch over the water and enjoy the sunrise and the peace and quiet. Wherever we vacation, that is my idea of relaxation.

A mental health break can really help put things back to rights w/ a person, and it sounds like you guys got just that! I can tell how relaxed & recharged you are from your words!

QUESTION of the DAY: Are you a morning person or a night owl?? Have you always been this way? What about others in your family??

Definitely a morning person. Have always been that way. No matter what time I go to bed (usually around 10) my 'body clock' wakes me at 4:30. I get up, get all my early morning chores done, and wait for a sleeping, still working from home hubby to wake up between 7 and 8. By the time he finishes breakfast, I usually have most of what I want/need to get done for the day done. This morning I mowed the lawn before it got hotter than the 70 degrees it was when I got up at 4:30. We are currently sitting at 98 degrees, feels like 100. We had 3 whole rumbles of thunder, and about 10 raindrops, while my Sister in law who lives 15 min away is in the midst of a violent thunderstorm? Weird weather!
@lovemygoofy --I am so glad that you got away, and had time to rest and recharge your batteries (so to speak). Sounds like Matt had a good time, I am glad for him. It will make starting his new job easier, having had some fun time! Sounds like you all had a great time! I could tell how you were feeling by your words also, as easyas123 said! :)

QUESTION of the DAY: Are you a morning person or a night owl?? Have you always been this way? What about others in your family??

So I used to be a total night owl and LOVED to sleep in(when I could). I'm noticing though, the older I get the earlier I've been waking up no matter how late I go to bed and I don't like it. LOL My hubby is a morning person, a too early morning person , we always say if he's awake, everyone is awake(and it's annoying....lol). Our daughter has always been a complete night owl, she actually LOVES sleep so if she can sleep, she's doing it. She slept all night from the day she came home from the hospital. 🥰 She can adjust her schedule for work but on weekend and days off she's a sleeper.

I used to be a morning person when I was in high school, moved to a night owl in my 20s. Flip flopped back in my 30s and early 40s, but now in my late number we aren't going to mention, I'm back to being a night owl. I can stay up until 3am without a yawn, but I struggle to get up before 7am even if I'm in bed by 10pm!

Stormy here today; went and got DD and DGS from her friends house, and I'm glad I went early. We weren't home from there/the store for more than 15 minutes before a nasty storm came through.

We're having crab legs (baked in the oven as I don't have a pot big enough for a crab boil anymore), roasted little potatoes and corn on the cob; corndogs for those who don't eat the bounty of the sea. I picked up single serve desserts for everyone at Publix: DH, key lime pie; me, tres leche cake; DS, cookies and cream cake; DD and DGS, strawberry cheesecake. I will not admit to eating a small bit of mine already, but someone did. haha

ETA: OMG we picked up some cotton candy grapes at Publix. Those really do taste like 'sugar' as DGS calls cotton candy. We used to get the Grapples for the kids all the time, but haven't seen them in years. Guess grape flavors is the latest thing? We didn't get the grapes that taste like strawberries or grape jelly, lol.

I don't have a favorite red, white and blue dessert but here are two things I made for for 4th of July

The ice cream sandwiches are just store bought, cut in half and rolled in red, white and blue sprinkles. Saw the idea in a magazine

The white chocolate pieces were the left over chocolate I used to dip the pretzels. I poured out the left over chocolate on waxed paper and spread it out then sprinkled the sprinkles on top and let cool. Then cut into pieces.

Oh....and I am definitely a morning person instead of a night person but lately have been staying up super late....pandemics tend to throw me off my schedule. Happens every time! LOL

So nice to come back here to many replies, yay :) Welcome mmouse! Love your Patriotic desserts especially the ice cream sandwiches (those look extra good right now with the warmer weather)

Pea-n-Me, your little owl brought me a smile, thank you.

I am also so thankful you and Matt both got in some R&R, Tina. So important, extra now, to take care and time to recharge and be still. I am also so glad you enjoyed some family time as well, Carol!

Cotton Candy grapes sound interesting, Bianca and Bernard. I am not much of a grape person except for Holy Communion grape juice but sure do enjoy cotton candy.

Enjoy your muffins, Gwynne. Right now simpler things truly are more special!

Other Monday gratitude:

Both snail mail and PM kindness from friends
Thinking of celebrating Holy Communion at church and memories of fresh spun pink cotton candy, too :)
It was fun watching Sale of the Century earlier. Wow to some of the OLD prizes

We have been having some good thunderstorms over the last hour. Were able to eat dinner out on the porch and listen to and watch the storm.

Dinner was free. We are both Royal Farms loyalty card holders. Gives us good prices on gas. And there are some other perks. Today was a free chicken dinner. Two tenders, Western fries, and a roll. I had some left over fresh veggies at home so a nice and easy dinner.

@mmouse37, those desserts look tempting. Do you use actual white chocolate? All I can ever find are the white baking chips near the chocolate chips in the store, but they aren't white chocolate. Tastes good anyway.

I have tasted cotton candy grapes at our local produce stand. I don't care for them, too sickenly sweet for me.

Tina, glad to see you. Glad you and Matt had a nice week.

Morning.....up every morning by 5:00 at the latest. Doesn't matter where we are or how late I was up the night before.
I have always been a morning person, but not that early.
I do love the quiet of the morning.
DH is a night owl.
DS is a night owl
DIL is a morning person. She is usually up by 4
DD is a combo
DGD is a night owl
DGS is a morning person

I use the white chocolate discs that you can get at A.C. Moore or Michaels or other craft store by the chocolate making aisle. They are usually $2.49 a pack on sale for about $1.99. They come in all different colors. Is it real white chocolate....not sure!!! but they melt easy.

Good morning everyone. We were down on page 2 again, so time to bring it back to page 1. Another hot day in store here, I think this is day 7 or 8 of the heat wave. Never did get any storm that they said was around , got maybe 5 minutes of rain that wasn't even enough to wet the ground. I hate to see our water bill next month , as I have had to water the garden/plants/flowers in the morning and again at nite! Veggies are growing, but still nothing to pick, everything seems to be lagging, maybe it's the heat and lack of Mother Nature's water works? I hope everyone is staying cool and safe. Have a great day!

We got some great storms in our neck of the woods, and some much needed rain. Parts of our yard are beginning to take on that crunchy brown mid-august look, so hopefully the rain helped!
We are finally going out for our multi-kid celebratory dinner tomorrow! We've got college graduate (with a shiny new full time job w/ benefits and a company truck, she did good!), another certificate course graduate who is going on his second deployment next month, and a third who has recently turned 21 and is re-entering the army and heading off to basic training again in the next few weeks. Fourth who is starting to climb the ranks at work and has really taken some initiative to advance himself in recent months....the 'kids' are our two sons and their significant others. I have volunteered to be the DD so kids & grandparents can indulge🍻 as my folks also have some personal celebrating to do as well!
I suspect there may also be a formal engagement on the horizon for the eldest in the next few months...
Dinner this evening will be pork chops - assuming I remember to take them out of the freezer in a bit when I go home to let the pups in.
