Can anyone who has stayed in a room on the Fantasy with an extended balcony tell me the pros/cons of these rooms? We love the verandah and use it every night. Why wouldn't we want one?

I assume you are talking about the 5Es?

We loved them! The loungers were amazing and the view of the open ocean and docking were great.

We did get a bit of sut/ash, so wear shoes out there. I think it is dependent on the wind direction.

Yes, was the room any smaller than a room without the extended balcony?

Or the 4E's. We loved our 4E last month. Downside is that the room is smaller compared to other Cat 4 staterooms, but the footage is made up in the balcony. We prefer the larger balconies, especially when travelling as a family.

Some of them are not midship, so that would be a con. We are a family that loves deluxes at WDW, but never use the verandah on DCL, so prefer the inside staterooms.

We absolutely love the 5E extreme aft cabins (our fav is 9174).

I've been on 5E on both the Dream and Fantasy - both are exactly the same. A few of these rooms are EXTREMELY larger than a standard room. The other ones are exactly alike a regular deluxe verandah room.

They are in the actual back of the ship on decks 6-10. Some claim that you feel a little bit of the rumbling of the engines when cruising and a little extra motion. For us that was not the case.

That said, you will feel the rumbling of the reverse thrusts though. This will happen after the ship finishes making a 180 and starts backing into the ports. You'll feel the engines at that time, waking you up early, but there's nothing better than to just walk out to the verandah and watch how the ship docks.

Those on deck 10 claim you'll hear some noise coming from Cabanas during the very early morning when they move the chairs in the area (around 5am). Hope this helps.

We were just in a port side extended (4E) in December. If you weren't out on the verandah you'd have no idea there was a difference. The room is exactly the same as the room we had on deck 10, starboard in February of last year. That said, we loved the verandah. it was nice to be able to sit behind the wall with a beer, a book and my iPod and not get blown around constantly by the 55 mph apparent winds we were experiencing.

Oops - I totally forgot that the 4E do in fact have an extended verandah but are located on the side of the ship.

We were 5e on the fantasy. We were on deck 10 right under cabanas. There is noise from cabanas, esp when they are cleaning and moving chairs. We found it esp noisey on pirate night....I'm guessing because they are open late. There is sometimes soot on the veranda in the morning, but the host would clean it when they come in. There as vibration sometimes too. We did like it, but it does come with pros and cons. We don't sleep in in the morning and are up at 7:00am, so we avoided the breakfast noise.

I thought about booking the extended Verandahs for the upcoming cruise, but decided not to because my daughter probably is still too short to see anything unless we hold her up. Last time, she could just sit on the chair and look through the clear panel and she loved doing that.. so that's the only reason why I gave up those rooms (there were still lots of availability at the time of my booking). Otherwise, if the rooms are the same size, I'd go for the large balcony!

Adding another comment/vote of not finding any cons with a 5e. Some may not like the absolute aft of the ship because of how far it is to the front. But we don't mind the walk, and like that there's hardly any for traffic in the extreme rear.

We have stayed in a 5E on the Fantasy, deck 10. While the mild vibrations didn't bother us at all the early (5am) morning chair moving noise from Cabanas did very very much. Soot on the deck every day but of course this was only evident in the mornings before the room host could clean it up. We love AFT and loved the larger veranda but will not stay in a room AFT on deck 10 again. Seven, eight or nine would be fine I am sure.

If you are planning on joining the verandah club and do not want an audience, you need to keep close to the door and under the deck above.

I love the extended verandahs! We have stayed in 5156 on the Dream and the Fantasy and I have it booked again for a cruise on the Dream next year. We have a 4 years old and a 2 year old. It's incredibly convenient to the kids club. We enjoy lounging out there in the morning and late at night watching the waves. It's the perfect place to enjoy an "All Hands On Deck"!

We had a 4E, room 5052, with a super extended verandah. A con is that everyone above you can see onto the majority of your verandah. You have the same amount of private space as a regular verandah but if you go out to the railing and look up you can talk to the people above you, which we did at one point lol. The room was the size of a regular ocean view with verandah, no extra space inside and no round tub. I knew that going in and was just excited for the verandah. The verandah was bigger than the stateroom it was that big! Right beside the lifeboats and the beginning of a hall beside a utility closet so our verandah spanned that width as well. It was very large. Not sure we would book it again, just because I do believe they are quite a bit more than just a stateroom with verandah.

So pros, huge verandah!
Cons, not as much privacy and price.

Great to hear! We will be in 8188 in March of 2017! I chose it because of the verandah. I can picture eating breakfast out there.

LOL when we last cruised in 2003 and 2004 the "verandah club" was a topic I used to see here...this is the first time I've seen it in a long time!

I hope you'll love it. It's dead center, so it has the largest of the extended verandahs. There's a storage/maintenance little room on one side, so I think you actually only share one wall with next door cabin. And we find deck to be the ideal in between - 3 decks up for Cabana's/pool, 3 decks down for the movie theater, 4 decks down to 4 for the lounges.

It's not the largest... Try 8184 or 8682. Now that's extended...
