Practically Perfect at the Poly? **UPDATE 7/28 -- And We're Back!!

But, I’m Italian.

I didn't know you were born in Italy, Tina! Where are you from?

Congratulations on your split stay! It's a fun thing to do. :goodvibes
And I guess I am the odd one out, as I was silently hoping that you would go for the Savannah view.
It's the most wonderful thing to sit out on the balcony and watch the animals graze in front of your room. So peaceful. :thumbsup2
To me there is a difference if I go to public area to view the animals or being able to see them right outside your room ...... but I do understand on the savings ..... and 500$ are not bad either! ;)

Correction: I'm Italian-American. :rotfl: I was born here, but my great grandparents were born in Italy.

The animals aren't the biggest draw for me. Weird, right? Yes, they are amazing. But, I just love the whole African theme of the place. I really, really do. It just seems so relaxing. I really can't wait. And who knows? I may just change my mind yet! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: I might have figured it out, IF I had thought about it a bit, but I was so surprised to read you were Italian. ;)

If the animals are not the main factor than you will absolutely love the pool view. For me, as much as I love a water view at AKL the animals are the main attraction ........

but ........

there is still time for you to change your mind. :rotfl2:

I think your split stay sounds awesome!!! And from what I've seen, the pool view rooms there have a really pretty-themed view! :goodvibes

I think your split stay sounds awesome, too! I think you have the best of both worlds. You have your beloved BC but you also are trying something new. I think the pool view will work great. Seriously, no 4 year old is going to want to sit and watch animals on the balcony. Well, at least no 4 year old boy that I've ever encountered. :lmao: Although, I am sure there are some.

When I took my nephew to Kidani (he was 8) he had absolutely no interest in the animals. I was SO glad I didn't spring on a savannah view room (which I didn't have points for anyway). The whole vibe of the place is great and that general viewing area is wonderful. There is also a smaller viewing area to the side of the pool, so don't miss going over there. There are a bunch of chaises in the shade.

We monorail-ed our way back to the Poly and I believe that I went over to Captain Cook’s for to refill my mug and get some snacks. Don’t remember exactly what I got, but I know I didn’t get a Dolewhip. As it turns out, I much prefer them in floating form, and they are very sweet, so not something I’m keen on having multiple times.

Max was exhausted and was out pretty quickly.

Which left Mark and I some time to enjoy our view. I think I have made it pretty clear that we did not fall in love with the Poly, I have to admit that the view is pretty fantastic, particularly at night. So much so that I took advantage of it again in April.

I have yet to figure out the nighttime camera settings on my camera. Perhaps my camera is just really bad at nighttime pictures. At any rate, Mark and I were able to enjoy some quiet adult time while we watched this:

Disney2-21-12252.jpg

Yes, that is the Electric Water Pageant somewhere in the background and that is Mark walking back toward our patio.

A slightly better shot of our view at night:

Disney2-21-12253.jpg

The tall, glowing structure to the left...that is the castle. Pretty incredible, huh?

Eventually we were watching this:

Disney2-21-12258.jpg

Disney2-21-12263.jpg

And so concludes our first full Disney day. Unfortunately, I only have two more to share, if you can believe that. This was a very, very short trip.

We had a wonderful first full day and I feel that, for us, we did quite a lot, including some never-dones. Admittedly, I am in no hurry to do the treehouse again, but I did get some nice pictures from that vantage point. I know that we could have done more, but as my earlier Fantasyland pics showed, by one o’clock, MK was PACKED!

To review:
We made RD at MK
Peter Pan
Winnie the Pooh
Tomorrowland Speedway
Smoothies at Auntie Gravity’s
Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse
Magic Carpets of Alladin
Tom Sawyer Island
Lunch at Columbia Harbor House
Haunted Mansion
Swimming at the Poly pool
Spaceship Earth
Innoventions
Nemo
Dinner at La Hacienda
EWP and Wishes from the Poly beach

Onto day three...and Hollywood Studios!

Well...finally summer AP discounts came out and they were a bit underwhelming to say that least. That said, I did re-book us and we are officially doing the split stay! So we'll be at the BC from July 19-23 and at AKL from July 23-26. ...
Now to just count down the days...and tweak dining reservations! :lmao:

YAY for a fun split stay AND saving $$ - and that is no small amount!

I know I have been reading DIS too much because I have done a lot of "tweaks" to our dining plans since I originally made ADRS. I think my TA Jen is :lmao: at me.

so how hot is disney in July?

I am glad I 'm not the only who can't do too much of the sweet stuff. one is great but anything after that is going to give me a tummy ache.

wow you got a lot accomplished in one day! esp with a little guy!

Looks like you had a great view of the fireworks from you patio - really you can't argue with that one.

The view from the Poly was one of our favorites about the resort as well. It really is awesome to have such a nice view of Wishes 50 feet from your room! :thumbsup2

A lot of us here are very proud of our ethnic heritage.

So true! ;) I might call back and some point and just see if something has shifted and become available, but I doubt it. Or, I'll just decide to do it. But I'm pretty thrilled with the pool view, honestly. There is so much about that resort that I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I think your split stay sounds awesome!!! And from what I've seen, the pool view rooms there have a really pretty-themed view! :goodvibes

I'm so happy I got it straightened out and its booked now for sure!

I think the split is going to be great. We'll go strong in the parks while we're at the BC and be able to relax a little bit more once we move over to AKL. Max isn't big into animals, either, which is part of the reason why I'm not dead set on the savanna view. Plus, if I'm reading the map correctly, the pool view rooms are all pretty close to the pool, the lobby, and Mara, which is a real bonus!

Nope it isn't small! Disney in July isn't as horrible as you might think. Personally, I do think the sun is a bit stronger than it us up here in CT, and sure its humid, but it wasn't miserable. I think it helped a lot that we were staying at the BC. Walking into that chilly lobby was heavenly!

And you cannot say anything negative about that view, that's for sure.

Yes it was!

I love pool views to be honest, something very soothing about them. Don't get me wrong, I love the animals but there are tons of spots to view them and that is a NICE chunk of change to save!

BUSY day and a lovely end to it, gorgeous view.

Congrats on the split stay -- it sounds awesome.

I've been reading a review of BC and the person did not like it at all (run down rooms, too crowded pool, etc.), but loves the Poly. It's amazing how people have different reactions to the same resort. I'm sorry you didn't fall in love with the Poly (it holds a very special spot in our hearts).

Love the pictures from you room of the fireworks.

Y'all really did a lot on that 1st day!

I do want to try to see the MK fireworks from the Poly beach on our upcoming trip. It does seem nice.

Very full day there! You accomplished a lot. I missed your update this weekend so I'll be back later when I can see picks!

I agree with previous posters- you had a VERY successful Day 1!!! How cool is it to be able to watch the fireworks show just steps away from your room!

Thanks...I enjoy being able to look at water, any water. :goodvibes To be honest, as long as my view isn't of a parking lot, I'm good.

I'm so excited about trying AKL. You looked so happy there!

I know that you have wonderful memories of the Poly and I know that lots of people love it. Plenty of people don't like CSR, which I find baffling frankly, as we've had nothing but positive experiences there. And more than anything, I'm still happy that we tried the Poly and got to experience the beauty and the convenience of the monorail.

The view of the fireworks was amazing and completely unexpected.

We did have a good day, even if I might have wanted to add a couple more things in there...like Illuminations, perhaps, and the Jungle Cruise, for sure. But I am not going to have a major argument with my kid over wether or not we get to see the back side of water! :lmao:

Watching Wishes from the beach is incredible. That said, you don't get the full impact of the music, though, so keep that in mind. However, when I went back in April, my friend and I had dinner at Kona and then went to watch the fireworks on the beach and it was magical to just relax there on lounge chairs and be entertained!

Very full day there! You accomplished a lot. I missed your update this weekend so I'll be back later when I can see picks!

It was a great first day! I even surprised myself when I listed everything out. Not bad for us as we are not known for our commando-style touring. :lmao:

I agree with previous posters- you had a VERY successful Day 1!!! How cool is it to be able to watch the fireworks show just steps away from your room!

The fireworks were a huge bonus. We had a couple of nights there that were fantastic.

That's a perfect ending to a great day!!! :cloud9:

Yes, it was! I have to say, as I sit here thinking about it, that the Poly is great for small kids. The pool is small and has zero entry, so not overwhelming and the views of the fireworks and the EWP mean that parents get to see Wishes even if their babies can't quite stay up that late. Also, the rooms are huge, another bonus with little ones.

It was a wonderful day!

Nothing better than fireworks from the beach! Love it!

It really was heavenly...:cloud9:

Wow, that was one jam-packed day, it looked like a lot of fun. No wonder Max passed out almost immediately. :lmao:

Dinner at La Hacienda sounds delicious and the restaurant is so beautiful!

You gotta love the view from the Poly beach, it's such a peaceful place to watch Wishes. And the best part? No crowds!

Your July vacation sounds absolutely amazing. :yay: BC is definitely on my to-do list and I get to try AKL for the first time in October, so I can't wait to hear what you think of both.

Wow, you did manage to have a very full day.

Congrats on getting your split stay!!! I know even though we just stayed at Pop for a couple of nights before moving to WL (so only a value vs. a deluxe to a deluxe)... it was fun.)

I personally hope to stay at the BC someday. Poly... well, I do think the grounds look amazing, but I suspect (like WL) the rooms are a bit dark for my liking.
