I am just starting to look into a portable DVD player for the drive to disney. Anyone have experience with these. My DD gets car sick and I am afraid this might set her off. Also, any advice on type size etc would be appreciated. We are not going until July so I have time to figure this out (with your help:D ) thank you!

We love our DVD player. I got it at Best Buy. It's a Panasonic with a 7 inch screen. I'm not sure they come in any other sizes, but I defiinitely wouldn't go any smaller. Shop around for a case, too. Ours is a Targus, also from Best Buy. It carries the player, plus you can set it up many different ways in the car. The case was about $70, which I was not prepared for. Back in the old days I would have easily spent that much on a hand bag, but alas, those days a long gone! The case is really nice and I like it, but I'm not sure if I had researched it more carefully I wouldn't have found a better deal.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Have a great trip.

I don't know a lot about these, but we just got a Mintek 7" potable DVD from Costco. It was a great deal, it came with the carrying case, 2 headphones, car adapter, remote control, and rechargable lithium battery for $219.99. We usually go for well known brand names, but this had a really good picture and it was a good deal. We used it last weekend in the car, the carrying case adapts so it can be strapped to the headrest, and both DS's were able to see it fine, it worked out really well.

We have the same as SuzieQ. How our parents survived road trips without one is beyond me! We travel a lot (usually just a few hours drive, but on occasion airplane trips and really long drives). Having a dvd player installed in the car is nice, but having a portable one is really nice for airplane rides, and for places that dont have them in the rooms. We rarely hear a peep from my 2 yo son while hes watching. He also wears headphones so we dont have to compete (radio and dvd). Panasonic has a good reputation and I wouldnt go smaller than 7" (they do come smaller and I believe bigger too). Theyve really come down in price too. And definitely get some sort of suspension bag so you can rig it between two seats, on the back of one, plus carry it protected. Ours has slots for a few dvds, but for long trips I got a small cd case so I can carry more.

I have the Best Buy PAnasonic also.. It is wonderful. My ds 2 loves it and is great on road trips. He doesn't like driving while it is dark, but if he can have his 'little tv' he is thrilled. I got a grat case from Best Buy that was only $25.00. It looks like a shoulder bag. No one knows a dvd player is inside.

It also works great on the airplane. I don't know how I ever flew with out it. Especially when planes get delayed by 4 hours..

We are looking at buy one from SAM's that has two screens for $300 and some-thing. Probably closer to $400.
I saw some great cases at our Walmart the other day on clearance for $15! There were plenty of them there and I couldn't figure out why they were so cheap. They held up to a 9" screen and had extra storage for DVD's and other stuff. Did anyone else see these?

They have really good reviews of all the models they sell and feedback from people who bought them. We got the Magnavox that's 7 in. It was on sale for $299 from $399 and has a great picture and got good reviews.

I don't have the case for it yet but we're using it for our trip to Disney plus other car trips we expect this summer.

Thanks for the input! Do any of your kids get car sick watching it on long trips?

My dd gets carsick very easily. 95% of the time, she can watch movies without a problem. It's the only thing she can do in the car or plane. If she is not feeling 100% to begin with it will make her queasy and she will quit watching. It has only happened a few times, but it has happened. Most of the time she is fine.

Call us crazy, but you know what we do? We bring along our small kitchen t.v., connect it to our small dvd player and then to a converter, which plugs right into the cigarette lighter! Works like a charm, PLUS, it's a lot cheaper than the portable screens with the DVD, AND you get a bigger screen. We have a minivan though, so it may not work in any other vehicle. Totally worth it though!

I dont think that would work in our car. Need to upgrade into a van or something similar but now it is a regular sedan and I am worried that the distance between her and the screen could be too close and get her car sick. She has made a couple of trips in my moms van when we did family trips november and Feb and has not been sick. In fact she adored having the TV/VCR and we loved the wireless headphones. But in the car it will be much closer to her. Any tips?

We're taking ours on the plane.!! Granted for us its only a 2 1/2 hour flight but with an 11 yr old, 5, and 3 it will keep them occupied...Even if they only have tim to watch one movie it will be well worth it (my kids are used to travelling by car and plane though so its mostly to keep them quiet and from fighting lol)..Probably taking the Nemo dvd to get them in the Disney mode (though I have been in since I started planning..11)

Ok, we did buy the one that I saw at SAM's for $399. It has TWO 7" screens! It came with the bag and all of the cables. One screen is on the main unit and the other screen connects with a cable. You can watch one or the other or both. You can hook games to it and it came with headphones. Each screen has two headphone jacks. We love it so far. It has a lot of features that I haven't discovered yet. If you have any questions about our model, I'll try to find out. (it wasn't on there website, just our store)

WE JUST BOUGHT THAT ONE FROM SAMS CLUB FOR 399.00 IT WORKS GREAT. NO FIGHTING ABOUT I CANT SEE IT OR ITS TURNED TOO FAR TOWARDS THE OTHER. THE HEAD PHONES LET ME BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE CAR CD AND NOT THE MOVIE AS WELL. GREAT SYSTEM.

Ditto the above statement.

We bought one of these Easter weekend and love it. The price is great for what you are getting. I highly recommend this DVD Player. We are thinking about getting another one because DH hogs this one. I want my own to watch my own movies.

I am such a goof about these things. Does the car vibrations shake the picture at all? That Costco one sounds good. I am going to see if ours has it here.

Oh also regarding the Costco Mintek one. How long is the battery good for? Thanks!!!!

dvd and dvd protable player is a must we are definitely doing that this year some of the programming is so limited and i don't know about you guys but my dtr always want to watch the disney channel when we ar eon vacation

Hi,
I just got the 5" Apex portable dvd from walmart, and we love it!!! It works great in the car and the battery lasts 2hours and 40 minutes before needing recharging. It also came with a plug adapter to plug it into a regular outlet, and a cigarette lighter adapter for in the car. Also came with headphones and a remote control. It plays most of the dvd formats including kodak picture disks and also CD's. Works well in a moving car and is so small. Got a case for 14.99 that hooks to the back of the seat. In our Santa Fe, both people in the back seat can view the screen. The color and picture quality are great!!! it was $139.99::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo
