I don't know if they still offer it but AAA offices also used to offer some kind of limited currency exchange at no or low fee. a neighbor that traveled to/from Canada frequently used to stop by and get some pocket money before every trip.

Our AAA office you can purchase foreign currency. But we can also get it at our bank. Both have reasonable fees.

last time I was at one it felt like the target or walmart electronic/toy adjacent areas. yeah there were electronics but there was a ton of funkos, action figures and other movie/TV tie-in stuff along with entire displays of some kind of lego knock-off brand.

Used to find a reason to walk through my local Best Buy on a random weekday (at lunch from work) or a Saturday - but now it feels like a flea market.

Probably a little bit of both, depending on the state obviously.

Many of our liquor stores are just separated areas of grocery stores, however. But I do have a couple beverage stores (liquor plus beer and wine) near us as well.

I'm always amazed at the number of tiny liquor stores in the many strip malls here, and I suppose everywhere. I've not been in any, but from the outside it looks like all they sell is booze, tobacco products (cigarettes and vape crap) and lottery tickets. People sure must buy a lot of that stuff to keep so many open and apparently flourishing.

They out lived all the computer stores like Fry’s, CompUSA, etc.

Way less retail brick & mortar and way more eateries, fast food, food halls everywhere.

Cupcake bakery craze turned into the donut bakery craze. Now we’re currently in the cookie bakery craze.

Way less traditional grocery stores and way more specialty and ethnic grocery stores.

More retail stores putting merchandise in locked cases pushing consumers to online, delivery, or curb side pickup.

High quality furniture stores. Majority of everything is now fast furniture. Appliance stores are now basically in Home Depot, Lowe’s, & Best Buy.

Only 1 Blockbuster left in Bend, OR. Truly the last man standing.

Businesses that I grew up with that are gone: Montgomery Ward, Sears, Mervyn’s, KB Toys, ToysRus, Pier1, Bed Bath, & Beyond, Circuit City, 99 Cents, PicknSave, Video rental stores, Tower Records, Sam Goody’s, Suncoast, Virgin, Borders, B. Dalton Books, and recently JoAnn Fabric & Crafts, & Party City.

It is illegal for alcohol to be sold in grocery stores where I live (meaning beer/wine) so liquor stores here are booming. There is one by me that has a massive local beer selection and it's always busy in there.

The bankruptcy and closing of the national Rite Aid Drug store chain has generated some discussion on our local FB groups about the demise of the old fashioned family run pharmacy. Rite Aide certainly does not meet that description, but we do have two family run pharmacies here, one has been business for 90 years, the other 76 years with no signs of closing when much larger chain pharmacies are struggling.
