POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

I'm staying in a 50s section room right now. So, obviously, not refurbed. I'm REALLY struggling to figure out where the "run down" label is coming from. The only stuff showing wear and tear is outside. The carpet in the room is clean, the comforters are in pretty good shape, the cushions on the chairs are clean, etc. I've noticed no problems. So I wouldn't worry about getting an old room.

I posted a few days ago, saying very much the same thing.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I'm wondering if they bumped up this refurbed because they will soon be working on the new resort across the lake, so they are trying to give the whole place a fresh look? Maybe?

^^^That sounds like a good reason, but with Disney, sometimes there is no reason they do things!

From what buildings/rooms can you see the fireworks at Epcot? That would be so cool, to watch the fireworks from our room! Of course, usually at that time of night we are still in a theme park, so it might not make a lot of difference!

Hmmm....that would be nice, but that is us as well......the only time we may be at our room will be the first night we are there. That is a good question.

if you go to the first page of the official POP thread, there is a map with location of best fireworks viewing from rooms and/or blgs:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2207254

room with view to see Illuminations and Spaceship Earth from Epcot (note that many say you can see only the highest fireworks from Pop)
  • the best viewing rooms are reported to primarily be found on the lakeside view of 50’s building #2 (Rooms #2450-2460) and 60’s buildings #3 and #4; check out Simba77's post that diagrams the best rooms with a view, which you may want to pair with the room number map
  • floors 3 and 4 will obviously offer best views in these buildings
We could see top of IllumiNations from our room in 50's bldg 3, room 3435 and bldg 5, 3458. From 50's bldgs 3 and 5 and 60's bldg 4 you can see from the lakeside walkways, best views would be 4th floor. Or walk to the end corner near the lake and watch from there as well. We could also see WISHES in the distance. One night we watched both - it was great.:lovestruc

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Thanks for the info. So, by looking at the map, I am to assume that because I have a preferred room........I won't be able to see them? I am not real familiar with the resort.

Depending on which bldg you're in, you could probably see them if you walk to the end of the bldg near the lake and look toward Spaceship Earth (you will see it)...you'll be looking toward the Bowling Pin in the further bldg stairs lakeside.

Other guests who have stayed in the 70's will know better what can be seen from the other side. Good luck!
(p.s. I'm in NC too - Triad area - do you drive or fly down?)

Really? I lived in HP for a while. I love the triad!! We haven't decided whether we would drive or take the train. Its just not worth flying. We love it, but with baggage fees and the fact that I am not a light traveler doesn't work for us.

We're on the edge of G'boro/HP/Jamestown. I am light traveler, but still would prefer not to fly. It's such a hassle now. Considering the train next trip, but it doesn't arrive/leave Raleigh/Durham until late in the evening.

Happy travels and hope you enjoy POP! :goodvibes We've had 5 POP stays, as well many deluxe stays, a few moderates - like you. :) PM or email if I can help with questions. :thumbsup2

Thanks so very much! We are also looking at taking train.....

We are excited to stay at Pop!!!!!!

We were there from 5/7 - 5/18. We usually leave the parks early and go back to the resort for a swim or just walk around. We didn't see any refurbishments going on until 5/16. They started on building 7 (80's) Bottom floor. When we left this morning they had all the mattresses lined up outside against the rooms they were going in. Like I said we walked around the resort all week and didn't see anything until then.

If your going in the next few days, make sure to walk along the Generation gap bridge. There was an alligator out every evening around 6:30 - 8. The guest were feeding him or her. Several large turtles followed the gator. It was kinda cool. The kids wanted to go see it every night.

Oh yea, the mattress was not pillow top and I didn't think it was hard, but I do like firm mattress.

We stayed in room 6161 it was refurbed.

Okay people....I called POP and got the scoop. This is the order of the renovations.

60s era - started but not finished and not currently renovating this era (bldgs 4, 5)
70s era - 95-100% complete (bldgs 6, 10)
80s era - 95-100% complete (bldgs 7, 9)
90s era - starting now (bldg 8)
50s era - scheduled start date August 23, scheduled end date 1st week of November (bldgs 1, 2, 3)
60s era - phase 2 - finish the 60s building to start after the 50s is complete (bldgs 4,5)

She said they are doing one floor at a time and don't start another floor until the current one is complete. Because of the summer months being so "packed" they will be slowing down for the season. (if they were packed, why so many promotions????) She said this is the "contract", but things could slow down or speed up at any time.

So....I like the 50s building and they are starting those 1 week before I get there...UGH. She said if you want a renovated room, you can request it 10 days before you arrive - although I assume that is just a "request". So, now that I don't have to stress about Free Dining anymore, I guess I'll stress about Pop's renovations! We will stay in the 50s building regardless (it's our favorite) - but it would be nice to be in a renovated room.

I thought building 8 was finished? Can someone clarify? thank you so much.

We'll be there for 9 nights beginning next Wednesday and I'm so hoping we get one of the refurbished rooms. I would love Building 6 but we'll take one of the others!! :thumbsup2

Going alone, where is a good place to request, I already requested a king bed, and don't care if that means I get a disability room. I never stayed a pop, but I am convinced I will love it.

My daughter and I will be at Pop from July 3-12. I booked a preferred room and asked for 60s facing the pool. However, our most wanted request is a refurbished room. I haven't stayed at Pop in many years and can't recall the preferred buildings. So, is there a better chance of getting a refurbished room in a standard room or preferred? Should I call back and just put refurbished room on our request and not worry about any specific decade? I don't mind changing to a standard if it gets us abetter chance at a "new" room.

:scared1: Why would people feed the alligator!!!!!! Plain dumb!

No the poolside 60 rooms have not been refrubed yet.

People feed the gators because they think it's cool but they are only inviting danger. They DO come out of the water. I'm surprised they haven't taken him/her away. We were at CSR a few years back and saw them taking a 3-4 foot gator out of the lake. And this was when the Crocodile Hunter was big so of course my kids wanted to "pet" it. They already had tape around it's mouth.

It's nice to see that wildlife is flourishing amidst all the construction at Disney, but gators have no place that close to people. Someone will get hurt or worse and they will sue Disney.

That being said, I can't wait till we get to Pop (8/28-9/4). Booked a preferred room cause last year we stayed ASMu and were back in Country. Way too far back in my opinion. Not sure yet if I should request a building or area or just let fate run it's course and hope for the best.:hippie:

So, should I change my request to:
1. refurbished room
2. 60s

One more question, is the portion of the 1960s that has been finished preferred rooms? I'm still trying to decide if I switch from preferred to standard if I stand a better chance of a refurbished room. Thanks!!

5-20-2010: I called Pop to get an update on the rooms - they aren't so quick to give out information today....

Building 9 is completely done
Building 8 is partially (90%) done (should be the next building finished)
Building 7 started not completed
Buildings 6 & 10 - she didn't have any information
Buildings 1, 2, 3 - still scheduled to start August
Buildings 4 & 5 - still scheduled to be last

So, not much has changed. She did say that all renovations WILL be done by October (which doesn't help me since I'm going in September!). I told her I like building 3 (50's), bottom floor, looking at generation gap bridge. She said, if she had to guess, in her opinion, that building will probably be done when I get there (September 2).

Sorry, not much of update...Hope this helps!
