POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

I stayed in a great room last week. 79's Building 6 bottom floor, facing the lake. Refurbished, close to Classic Hall and the Busses and the Goofy waterjet area. Not close to 70's parking, but we were only there one night. I think the 90's parking may actually be closer.
Going back in June for a week and wanted to check out the refurbished rooms. We always request and get the 50's, but now I am torn. Liked the privacy curtain - nice addition.

5-20-2010: I called Pop to get an update on the rooms - they aren't so quick to give out information today....

Building 9 is completely done
Building 8 is partially (90%) done (should be the next building finished)
Building 7 started not completed
Buildings 6 & 10 - she didn't have any information
Buildings 1, 2, 3 - still scheduled to start August
Buildings 4 & 5 - still scheduled to be last

So, not much has changed. She did say that all renovations WILL be done by October (which doesn't help me since I'm going in September!). I told her I like building 3 (50's), bottom floor, looking at generation gap bridge. She said, if she had to guess, in her opinion, that building will probably be done when I get there (September 2).

Sorry, not much of update...Hope this helps!
Can I ask (maybe you know) which buildings are the preferred rooms in?

Tammi, This has me wondering - since all resort calls go to the Call Center and they answer with the name of the resort, unless they are willing to transfer you to the back office, this is the information available to the call center operators. It's great that they keep the call center so updated! :thumbsup2 Thanks!

We will be there that week as well. You mention you like building building 3 (50's), bottom floor. Is that far from the main building? My mother (age 70+) for her first visit. She mentioned that she would like the 50s area, but I was worried it would be too far of a walk for her after walking and standing in the parks all day. What do you think? Why is this area your favorite?

TIA

Some of the non preferred 50's rooms are right next to the preferred. I would suggest requesting for bldg 1 (50's), close to Classic hall - even pool view, as several rooms would be close to preferred on the pool side. Ask the CM to note it is for an elderly person. Also, become familiar with the POP Map so you will know which bldgs will work.

This thread is not the POP FAQ's thread - that one has maps of the resort and each bldg and section: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2207254

Then be sure to ask at check-in if the room assigned is close to Classic Hall and ask to see it on the map. Do not do on line check in, as that is supposed to be for quick key/packet pick-up guests.

I think she will love the 60's section - I am 62 and it's my very favorite - lots of nice memories, but even more so for your mom.:thumbsup2

Hope this helps! :goodvibes
p.s. None of the 50's rooms are a far walk at all ( about 4 mins to your room), especially bldg 1 or 3. :) We've stayed in bldg 2 twice, 3 three times and and 5 once (5 is pref), but not necessarily much closer than 50's 1 or 2.

Not now. Check out this link for a map for current preferred room location and blgs hi-lighted in yellow. :thumbsup2

Has anyone updated the map like this that has the buildings marked in which they've finished the refurb? Note: I'm not asking which ones are done ;) I know that's asked every 10th post :rotfl: I just thought it would be handy to have a map like the one above with that listed so we could print it and have it handy. Thanks!!

A map like that would be difficult because it would need to be updated on a regular basis and no one knows for sure what the refurb schedule is or how it may realistically unfold. :thumbsup2

There is one floating around somewhere. I know I've seen it. I was just wondering if it had been updated. You're right...it would have to be updated frequently, which is why I was asking. I just figured as sections are confirmed to be finished it could be added. Let me see if I can find the one I saw that was started and I'll post it. Thanks :thumbsup2

I do realize this isn't the Pop FAQ. However, I'm wanting a refurb preferred room and figured the best way to find that info is on this thread. Now, I'm thinking my request should be:

1. Refurbished room
2. 60s or 70s

I think a map of the completed buildings would be great. Obviously, it would need to be updated frequently, but it would be quite helpful.

I'm not sure if any are done in the 60's section yet.
Last year loved the 60's section non-pefered room facing lake.

Well, at this point.....I am probably going to get on the CM's nerves as much as i have been calling. I have requested a rehabbed room, connecting to another one, one with a king bed and the other with 2 full beds.....lol....I'm I missing something? :confused3

For those that want to know: I asked on the FAQ thread about a better chance of getting a refurbished room if I switched to standard instead of preferred. The answer I got was that the majority of the completed rooms are standard. I'll be switching my reservation today.

I too would kinda like a refurbed room...but either would be okay. However, after reading on another thread how guests have become greedy in what they expect, I am not sure about putting a request in. I was fully planning on putting in a room/building request prior to our trip. I did it for our last trip. I don't expect to get it, but I hope to. So now I am left with the feeling like I shouldn't request a room/building. I was one of the people waiting (very anxiously) for FD. If it had not come, we would not be going.

So I am just sharin... is the general consensus that it is still ok to request a room/building?

I hate feeling like I am doing something wrong...:confused3

I am not that concrn about getting a refurb room as I am trying for a ground floor room next to the main pool In the 60's bldg. If It Is refurb?, double bouns. I requested It last Oct,and did the online check In, and I did not recive It. So I am going the reg check In and trying It that way.

I know that most people will say that faxing a request does not help. However, last year I faxed one for the first time and we got everything we wanted. I would certainly try it. What do you have to lose!

I put what I want on my reservation and I fax. Both times we've stayed there, we got exactly what I asked for.

For our upcoming, I decided to request Building 6 lakeside, 4th floor. I loved Building 4, but DS and DN do not want to stay in the same building, and I can't blame them. I really want a new room, and I think odds are very good for getting one there.

I do have to say, though, that I think the Foosball figures are ugly. I am not thrilled over the idea of walking past them every day of our trip. Some of the photos I've seen of them in the Pop photo thread belong on the "weird and disturbing" picture thread. Then again, I guess the giant dancers on the '60's buildings are creepy too.

I love Pop and I think it's cool that the decor is totally over-the-top, but I have to admit that some things there are ugly.

I added my request to my reservation earlier this week and asked for a refurb in the 70's. I am not thrilled about the theming of the 80's & 90's and prefer not to be right by a pool in case it's noisy.

We check in on Wednesday, we will see how it goes.
