Thanks for all the quick responses. :thumbsup2 I think you confirmed what I was thinking. I dont want to plan and pay for this vacation knowing we will be crowded and not comfortable with the beds. We could probably make it work, but I'd rather pay a little extra and know we'll be fine. This will now be the 5th time I have called and changed something on this reservation!!! :confused3 I will have to make time to visit POP. I really wanted a picture with the Potato Heads. :)

I've stayed in 70s lakeview ( quiet) and 60s lakeview. The 60's was louder than the 70s, but it was nice to be so close to the food court and pool. I haven't stayed in 50s, so I don't know about that.

Has anyone gotten to check out, not liked the room location you were given, and been given a choice of room locations? We were at CBR last time and b/c we didn't like our room location they gave us another room. I would have liked a choice. Do they ever do this at POP?

We've stayed in the 60s and 50s lake view and liked them both (we found both areas to be quiet and peaceful). Dunno if this factors in to it, but we tend to fall asleep quickly and sleep very soundly). :goodvibes

And yes to your question concerning being able to switch from an assigned room ... in 2008 we checked in late on the day FD promo started... not much selection left. We weren't thrilled with our assigned location, so the CM looked around for us, and we ultimately selected the end room 4th floor in Bldg 9 (closest to the 70s, by Mr./Mrs. Potato Head). We ended up really liking this room, in fact, after that we always ask for 4th floor end room.

It'll be me, DH, and our 8 and 9 year old DD's. We've requested 50's section. I've stayed there 3 previous times and we always stay in the 50's! Did you request a certain area?

50s is cool. :cool2: Tramp is tops! :thumbsup2

During our last stay, we were in the Big Wheel building, overlooking the lake and found it very quiet and relaxing being away from the pool views. We also stayed one night in the 90's section, but didn't care for that at all. Is there another section that has a lakeview that is just as quiet or should we just request the 70's again? Thanks!!

We found all our lake view stays quiet ... 50s, 60s and 90s. IMO it's really a preference for theming. :goodvibes Although I can understand ADisneyqueen's comment about 60s being noiser, being so near the main pool, but for us once we were in the room, it was quiet. We were also on the 4th floor.

Called today but the woman had no idea why I got the online message. She said nothing can be requested until I check in. :confused3

She said I'm already set up for preferred so it should be a room closest to the food court and transportation.

de8212: If you really want to check in online, call again. Don't know why a CM would tell you you can't make an on-line request. :confused3

Janet Thanks for the warm welcome! I took my daughter to lunch at the Akershus house and while the Princess interaction was fabulous I would definitely recommend breakfast ressie there. The cold salad bar was delicious but the hot food was a little too weird for me. I think it was more or less the way things were spiced that turned me off. If I make a ressie there in the future it will definitely be for breakfast.

::yes::

:wave2: Thanks for your comments on the Akerhous Breakfast! you and Pumba really have me thinking we should switch our dinner ressie to the breakfast one. :goodvibes

Looks like we'll be there at the same time! We arrive in 7 days.

I prefer regular check in. Just in case I dont like the room location they assign me so we can discuss other options.

Kadesha ... You probably are aware of this, but you can also discuss your room location with a CM even with using the on-line check in system. :goodvibes

We also drive to WDW and our last trip we only took the bus once to MK after our afternoon break. Even though it drops you off closer to the Main Entrance, the time we spent waiting for the bus to load ate up any time we would have saved. Also, my boys' favorite thing at WDW is the monorail, so we would rather just drive so we can sneak an that extra "attraction" before we even go through the turnstiles. We even got to ride the Avenger-rail twice last time!

Okay, maybe the monorail is one of Mommy's favorite things too! LOL! Riding on the monorail and going through the Contemporary is one of my few memories from my first trip as a 3 year old!

A great benefit of driving to MK!! We have have done this very same thing!! (when we are gone to MK via DTD or another resort when returning to POP would take too much time.) :)

Lucky you. I'm jealous. Anyway, yes, you can do on-line check-in and then pay in cash on arrival. They will keep a cc on file for you so you can charge expenses to the room. You can even pay for those in cash if you go to Pop reception before you get to your cc max ($500 for those staying at value resorts).

I'm not sure how they would treat accepting a bunch of cash against whatever charges you make. I personally wouldn't want to do that, but I don't know if it is possible.

In addition to, or as alternative to putting cash down, we have purchased Disney gift cards in advance and use them for tips/purchases. :cool1:

Pop Century does have rollaway beds. I've seen them -- the people down the way from us in April had one; we witnessed a CM delivering it to them. Also, our fearless leader Janet B called to confirm their availability and cost. See post 160 of this thread where she states:

Roll-away beds are available, charge is $16.88 (includes tax).

Janet, can you confirm that Pop told you they had roll away beds? Do I need to call and add this to our reservation now for our trip in August? I do remember you answering this question about availability at Pop before but then somebody went and told me NO WAY, you have to have an air mattress. We have 3 adults in 1 room who would really like our own bed ;) I would rather cramp up in a bed with my mom than sleep on an air mattress, lol!

Fellow June travelers, the TA site has updated park hours (for the better!!!)

http://media.disneywebcontent.com/S...pdf/ParkHours/WDW_Operating_Calendar_June.pdf

Thanks for the link -- great info for all you June travelers!!

You can use room charge almost anywhere, there are a few places that won't take it (wish I could remember where), but the majority will. Some few snack carts still only take cash, so we still carry $20.

I always keep a 20.00 on me just in case.. We just charge everything to our KTTWC.

Good reminder to all that there are a few places that your KTTW is not accepted. We always have some cash on hand too. :goodvibes

Hi, everyone! We are going to WDW this fall, courtesy of my parents this time around, and staying at the AKL. I decided to surprise my son by going down a day early and staying at the Pop for the night. Since some of my family members aren't great secret keepers, I decided to post about it hear before I bust, lol!

Welcome!! :flower3: We'll be your secret-keepers -- there are Harry Potters fans here too!! :yay:

Surprises are great!! :woohoo:

Thanks for all the help guys! Just 6 days left till our first visit to POP. :) We're SOOOO excited.

We are 6 days out too! :cool1:

Okay, is the 6 the magical number today?? :upsidedow :woohoo:

Sandi: You are too kind! Many thanks for that vote of confidence! :goodvibes

Stacy ... Yes POP does have rollaways available (I'm told they have plenty on hand.) No need to request and pay in advance... you can request one at check in or from your room phone, by dialing housekeeping.

For myself, I would request at check in, just in case your room isn't available and you wish to head out for the day. :goodvibes

Thanks Joann!!!

We surprised the kids a few days ago:grouphug:! They were very excited but the excitement went up a notch when they found out we are staying on property at POP!:wizard: We cut out and made a count down chain. 108 days till DISNEY!:banana:

I have a question about Online check in and how it affects hotel bumping (basically being changed from one place to another). Does Online Check In help ensure you get a room when you get there (even if it isn't the minute that I get there)? Since it's a peak time of year, I'm concerned that I would get bumped and paying extra for that bump (let's say to CBR Pirate rooms) if i check in that day. The last time I went on site Mom didn't have that option (back before Value Resorts even).

Only 342 more hours until we leave! (Not that I'm counting or anything  )

I can't answer the first part of your question but I'm pretty sure that if they do "bump" you from your reserved resort, they would not charge you if that bump was into an upgraded room category or resort category. If they inconvenience you with a bump, even if it is from a value to a moderate or deluxe, you shouldn't have to pay a penny extra beyond what you agreed to pay in the booking contract. After all, it wouldn't be your fault that the room you agreed to was not available.
