Somehow, The Marathon Returned - comments welcome!

Sigh. One minute away from a PR. I was on pace to smash it for the first 8 miles, and then the wheels fell off. I finished with the same overall pace as my half PR, but went about .12 longer, so no PR. It was soooo hot and humid. At least the sun wasn’t out, or I would have suffered even more. I wish I would have started with the 2:45 pace group, but alas -I learned I can’t run more than 30/30 intervals when the temp is over 70 degrees!

Fantastic effort! You were so close! Some of those photos look like you were definitely suffering in the heat. I wouldn't even think of trying to PR that long of a race at that temperature.

I really shouldn’t have tried! My PR race was at least 10 degrees cooler throughout, and was our first big cooldown of the year so after training in the heat, my body was ready to go fast. Meanwhile, it was about 10 degrees hotter than it has been in the mornings during today’s race, so I’ve pretty much lost all my heat acclimation.

I’m trying to convince myself that my fitness must have improved a bunch to get me that close to a PR in adverse conditions. :P

But also, my knee started hurting again near the end of this race and it’s still sore now, so I’m really hoping I didn’t mess it up somehow. :(

It sucks when you've done all you can to prepare and something totally out of your control messes with your plans. But you should be super proud of that effort! If nothing else, you KNOW you could have done it in better conditions. That's got to help mentally as you train for your next race. Take it easy and let your body heal before MW.

LOL, I got my pictures today and while the first one is an actually decent action shot, the second one is the best encapsulation of how I felt during that race.

It was so fun following along on your IG stories. What a fun way to do a long run! Nice job.

Can’t ignore the other milestones from this weekend. Son turned 6 and celebrated by riding Space Mountain and Tron for the first time. :) (We also went on Tiana’s for the first time, but I don’t count that as a first ride since he did Splash before it closed.)

I took a week off running to see if that would make my knee feel better. It did not. I ran this morning with a knee brace and it felt ok, so I'm going to either keep running with a brace or try KT tape. (I already know Santa put some in my stocking.)

A little over two weeks until Marathon Weekend. I'm doing the 5k and marathon. My plan is to either walk the entirety of the 5k or run/walk at an easy pace. My plan for the marathon is idk. Depends on how my knee feels! It will likely be at M pace or slower, as I'm doing a half marathon on February 1 and I want to PR or, if the miraculous occurs, get a runDisney POT.

I hope everyone has a happy holiday!
